Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
Only reason it’s not a 10 is because Anthony’s an extrovert
Y'know it's funny bcs he's a pretty clear ENFJ 😂😂😂😂😂
Anything but, you seen that pic of Fantano opening up ab his social anxiety? Mans struggling
@@jacksoninc.4062 what's that
@@jacksoninc.4062 wtf is ENFJ Go outside lol
@@imadabbou1766 I guess Extrovert something something
This is the first time I've ever seen so many people offended by an 8 out of 10. Must be a pretty great album.
Blonde got a similar reaction i believe
Ahem Black midi Cacalcade
Blonde by Frank Ocean and AMHAC by JPEGMafia brought the biggest response i saw
It is
Terminal Redux too
Sorry Antknee, Little Simz wore the checkered pattern clothing better.
People seem to forget it’s just one mans opinion. If you think it was a 10 that’s all that matters.
It’s not a 10 but def a 8-9. Her next album will be a tpab for sure as long she improves.
People act like Melon's opinion is the final word on every album, no matter how many times he says they shouldn't do that
@@Char1ieC Music is opinionated, that’s what makes it exciting. My 10 could be a Not Good to someone else. Who cares lol.
EXACTLY. Preach.
@@Char1ieC yeah lol it's pretty laughable seeing people literally tearing their hairs because of one bad score or sum.. i like seeing other people's opinions on things and even if i totally disagree it's all fine. these dudes like to live trapped inside a bubble where everyone has to have the same fucking views on everything
When the majority of people expected more than an 8/10 than what Fantano gave it, it's a good project for sure.
Tbf, he gave it a "strong 8 to light 9"
it is a strong 8, light 9. So basically a 9/10, to be fair.
Man, I loved “The rapper that came to tea” and those choirs man those choirs. I’m glad you enjoyed the album overall, even though you didn’t like my personal highlights. Being the interludes, I thought they were amazing.
Honestly, that's my favorite interlude on the album. It's just glorious.
I think Rolling Stone's beat switch highlights the themes of Simz's duality throughout this record - she even states the second half is her 'evil twin having her time'
Yes her evil rebellious twin which could be a bad side of her, then went on to protect my energy it was so perfect . Very introspective album
The fact people are dissapointed with an 8 kinda proves how amazing this album is
What impressed me the most about this album is how it’s over an hour and yet Simz has so few features on this thing. She carries this album mostly on her own.
As someone who loves interludes/lore in albums, I think "The Rapper That Came To Tea" is a great transition to the more Pop tracks, something like "okay, those white people are asking to be entertained", you know? She really separate the artistic directions with the interludes. But I agree with all song opinions and understand how some people really don't like those interludes. Strong 9 here, my favorite project of the year for now!
These British Rappers are really on a roll when it comes to dropping phenomenal rap albums
honestly
Simz trying to summon the flannel with her checkered outfit on her album cover.
The only thing I'm mad about is that "I Love You, I Hate You" is not listed in the fav tracks
I have personally never heard an album I thought was a 10, but I think this album is one of the closest albums to perfect I’ve ever heard.. rounding up, I would give this album a 10 without any hesitation. I respect the 8 though.
i’d give it an 8, some of my 10s are illmatic, 36 chambers, supreme clientele, the infamous, the low end theory, madvilliany, longlivea$ap, aquemini, get rich or die tryin, liquid swords, ready to die , only built 4 cuban linx, fear of a black planet, hell on earth, midnight maurderers, hell hath no fury, below the heavens, good kid maad city, etc that’s all i can remember
@@syrim4139 thanks for the suggestions! I haven’t heard a good chunk of these albums before
@@syrim4139 you seem very sparing with what you give a 10 but even so I’m very glad there’s someone else out there who considers Hell On Earth is a 10
In general, introversion has nothing to do with self-doubt. Being 'inward turning' is just a personality trait and we can't really stop being the way we are nor do we feel the need to.
It was cute of you to match outfits with Little Simz
I would accept anything above 7 for this. I listened to it today at work and wasn’t familiar with anything else from Little Simz and this album blew me away.
Please review Cleo Sol - “Mother” album (R&b/soul) genius album
Little Q is about her cousin, not her! She said so in her Apple music liner notes I think
Copped it on vinyl. 10/10 album for me
This year aint missing
while this isn’t a 10 for you Anthony, it absolutely is for me. Thanks for introducing me to her with Grey area btw
theneedledrop won't review Oloff because of what he said about him
I completely agree, Strong 8 as an album is right. But there are definitely some tracks that here that are an easy 10.
So glad you put me onto her. A 10/10 album for me
Personal 10 of mine but as long as it’s a yellow flannel I’m good with it
I found this album was heavily influenced by Sampa The Great, from feel, flow and at times subject content.
It's not as tight as Grey Area but the highlights are real high. GA I always play the entire album all throughout, SIMB maybe I'll just cherry pick tracks depending on the day.
At the top of my head, my fav song sonically would be Protect My Energy.
SIMBI has the better tracks, but GA is more consistent. I think both are 9/10 records
been waiting on this. this album gave me so many goosebumps, its absolutely beautiful
I think 'i see you' although sounds very direct and straightforward in approach, but is probably the most introspective song off the album which centers on self-love and companionship with slow and low tone rap from a listener point of view a shower of praise and admiration for yourself or someone you care about
Dang, I was sure you were going to give it a 10. I definitely like it better than Grey Area.
listening to this after clb is like getting brought back to life after being on the brink of death
WHAT A YEAR
Forgot to add I Love You, I Hate You to your fav tracks, Anthony...
wait I just realized, has a record ever gotten a 9 before? this is about as 9 of an album as 9's go
Hes only given 2 of them this year. As of now, hes given the same number of 9's as 10's this year.
I thought the instrumental on ‘I See You’ was stunning and beautiful to listen to, it didn’t run dry for me at all. I also love the variety on this album and how well it all flows from one track to the next. From the the choral theatricality of some interludes to the cutthroat bangers with tracks like ‘Rolling Stone’, it all was executed to perfection and gave the whole album so much flavour and personality. I’m giving it a 10/10, I loved it.
Played this before Drake’s CLB since he delayed it an hour…ended up loving it more than CLB
When she said "woman to woman, I just wanna see you glow" I felt so empowered even though I'm a man

Me too
When she said "if u can't feel pain then u can't feel the opposite" I fell in love with the album. And I'm pretty sure she dropped that line in the first minute of the first song

What theory ?
@@sensokami8084 THE theory
The fact that this album got a higher rating than Donda, CLB and Off Season just goes to show how disregarded women are in the rap industry because one of them will win AOTY and this won’t even get nominated
Let's talk about that once it actually happens. Even if you turn out to be right though, we all kinda know awards and award shows are a joke.
@@LucosDiCampos yeah I was just making a point 😂because we all know Olivia Rodrigo is taking all them awards
I don't think it's women, I think it's just that simz is a small artist in comparison to people like Kanye or Drake or Cole. The grammys always just have mainstream or semi mainstream artists anyway, very rarely do they go to the underground
Cardi B won a Grammy over Astroworld lol that’s completely untrue
@@geraltrivia9565 And Nicki Minaj hasn't even won a Grammy yet. It definitely holds truth.

@BT J I meant to write “creative”. And all I’m saying is they could probably do it too. I’m being positive, you’re actually the one trying to be negative 😓
@BT J the original comment literally said it was creative. I’m trying to lift the commenter up and all you’re concerned about is a perceived slight against the artist.
Is this what you do? Go around and interpret people’s comments in the least charitable way possible to try to antagonize them publicly? You’re toxic.
@BT J yea, I’m sure do. Good luck 👍

Donda was on the level of this project
nah kanye, little simz and tyler winning this year
💯
Been saying this all week
Drake thought he was releasing the album of the year, but he couldn’t even release the album of the day.
Melon: “I love you, I hate you” is a masterclass in song structure and writing.
Also melon: *doesnt put it in fav tracks
Yeah wtf
Maybe its like an 8 in music taste so not one of his faves (faves would be 9s and 10s in this album)
"If the bullet was the beat, I would probably die for this." Is such an incredible line, I had an out-of-body experience when listening.
It's 2021. Two of the biggest names in hip hop history are releasing their new records, while simultaneously arguing like children. All of a sudden a girl from Islington pops up and proceeds to wash em both with her own fresh record. Maybe that's what happens when you actually care about the music more than anything else. Congrats to Little Simz, you are one of the dopest artists out there.
Fucking facts!

Based on what he said, I genuinely think he just forgot to type on the list
Why does your 'strong 10 to a light 11' sound so much like 'strong 8 to a light 9', Anthony?
on a music theory level, i'd just like to add how cool the 'gems' interlude is. it starts off with 4 groups of six, with the first beat of each group clearly emphasised, giving a clear 4/4 feel. but as each section progresses it morphs into 2 groups of six and 1 group of 4, which adds to sixteen, giving a 4/4 feel yet again, but twice as fast. without changing the percussion nearly at all, simz suddenly pushes this double time onto the listener, which is just super cool.
truly masterful songwriting
Gems is one of the best interludes of any album I've ever heard. It's mesmerizing

I'm really suprised anthony didn't like the interludes, I thought they were great. The instrumentals on them were so beautiful.
I know it was so surreal. It added this dreamlike dimension to this record that I don’t think would’ve convinced me to give it a 10 otherwise. It’s crazy Fantano doesn’t like them.

I'm glad Melon decided to cosplay as Little Simz with the yellow flannel for this review.
Was looking for this comment.
Anthony, saying the cover looks like "Siren Head" for 11 minutes is actually a really good review and interesting fact.

Personally this is aoty for me. I loved it from start to back. I never really had an album want me to listen to interludes. ill listen to interludes the first second or even third time of an album but I usually find myself skipping them afterwards. The interludes on this album are just as good as the actual songs. I'm so glad that Gorillaz did that one song with her because i don't know if i ever would of listened to grey area and this to begin with.
This album is literally a movie. How Did You Get Here is like the final scene, and Miss Understood is the credits rolling.

Personal 10/10 and album of the year, but aye, there's no reason to be mad.
Your flannel matches the cover today, Anthony!
How is she “leveled up” if you rated her last album higher
This is what I’m asking!
you can enjoy one album more but still acknowledge that the other is, as he said, more ambitious and so on and so on.
Sort of how he will reference MBDTF as a career highpoint or a landmark for Kanye, even though he gave it a 6. The rating is based on how much he enjoys the album, not on necessarily what's "better". Melon will often acknowledge, passion, ambition and messaging but it doesn't mean he enjoyed listening to it as much as something else, the LilPump tape that got a 7 being a good example, Melon enjoyed it as mindless dumb fun but as art and as a message yeah it's not doing anything.
He said she levelled up from her older album "Stillness In Wonderland", at least that's what i think
I really must not be listening to enough music to get sick of them, because the interludes are some of my favourite parts of the album
They're just so musical in my opinion
This was a straight of 10 for me. No question
Love how Anthony and Little Simz are both wearing checkered shirts
