Aerodynamic counter balancers on all flight surfaces make a huge difference on all axis and are easier on your servos as well. Great engineering Mr. Fokker!
D7’s are definitely one of my favourite aircraft. I own 2 currently, a 1/3 scale 100cc and an electifly version. I have a video of the 1/3 scale D7 on my channel. Would love to add a quarter scale D7 to my fleet. Brilliant video Tom
Kermit Weeks (fantasy of flight) explained the secret to good ground handling for tail skid WW1 airplanes - use a bit of down elevator and full rudder with a few blips of the throttle and it will go where you want and turn on a dime. Kermit also installed a Keel under his steerable tail skid that dramatically improved things as well. You could just install a steerable tail wheel and be done with it, like I do.
Great video. I noticed you were using the usual up elevator while trying to turn on the ground. These WW1 planes full size or model use down elevator along with rudder and a careful shot of throttle to turn on the ground. Takes a bit of getting used to. Just thought you should know.
I really liked your vids on this plane. I am considering getting one. I don’t think I’ve owned one this big before. I have a saito 120 in a plane that’s pretty decent size and I’m not in love with it. Would the saito 120 be large enough for it? It’s just a regular 120, 4 stroke.
I've not used those Saitos so don;t know how they would be in this plane. I can say that the DA50 has a good amount of power for this plane and though they rate it as 30 to 50cc, I'd stay at 50cc or a little above.
Many reasons to subscribe. Veterans, rc aircraft, and let us knot underestimate the dialog. His delivery harkens me to the; "Alone In The Wilderness" real life video & the voice of, [ Richard "Dick" Proenneke ]!
@@flyingrcdotnet - LOL, got one for the same purpose and apparently we have the same results! I think it worked best before the last updates but well you know the history. I'm just glad it survived the last update. Great video, thanks or sharing !
Great video and comeback from the model that failed in flight. Did tower offer to make it right on last plane? My last crash the same thing happened but I had weakened the wing by earlier mishaps and didnt realize till too late.
I didn't go to Tower on this as I doubt they would have done anything, I didn;t save everything and after seeing the inside of the wing I would never trust it to fly. I just moved on. Going to a Hangar 9 plane is always a comfort! Tom
Yes, people have found creative ways to lighten him up so they can use him. I'm not nearly talented enough to do a reasonably scale plane so usually skip the scale looking pilots in my planes.
Well done Thintz....beautiful plane and great job on the sticks as usual. I really like your reviews and commentary, keep up the great work.
Always enjoy your videos!!! You are a great asset to the hobby! Thanks for all of your work and input in the hobby!
Enjoyed your review very much. You’ve got the kind of voice that should be on the radio. That’s a compliment. Thanks again beautiful plane
thanks for explaining the rudder working on ground with prop wash.
Mr. Tom, you are a great designer and RC pilot . Congrats on the way to set up, a CoG in the very short nose .

Same here, jeepman! DVII is one of my all time favorites!! And yes I agree, great commentary as well :-)
Nice maiden day video, Tom

is that a soloshot 3 tag on the wing?
It is, AND is sort of worked that day! Who would'a thunk it!

Great job man.

I like my pilot. I cut him down to bust size and drilled into the head to cut weight.

Inverted flat spins :-)
