Cheydinhal is very good, but Skingrad has gotta be #1. Best architecture, neat layout, good wine, cool inns, an awesome vampire count, that loveable crazy dude Glarthir. In the rain, it is the most cozy and feels like you're in a cool fantasy-noir city. Having Bruma that high is nuts though, Bruma is basically just Bravil but cold. They're both slums, but the layour of Bruma is worse.
Anvil is personally my favorite with the beautiful architecture and port town vibe, also the player home there is the best, even has its own quest. Also Bravil deserves more respect, the shantytown buildings are really fun to jump around and explore with high acrobatics and the high crime rate gives the city a nice charm
I agree with anvil being so beautiful and cozy. And yeah the player home there is the best. I even decided to make my last save there as a sort of final resting place for my first character Nah Bravil deserves all the hate it gets. The town is so boring I keep forgetting its name
I really like Bruma. The city layout just feels so wonky with the giant chapel & castle, & all the houses either positioned around the chapel or in elevated rows, but I'm partial to the wooden indoors & snow on the ground outdoors. It's a comfy combination.
Cheydinhal is modelled after the Tudor style of architecture. I grew up in Plymouth and there are a handful of surviving buildings like this. Notably, Tanner's Restaurant.
In defense of the Knights of the Thorn! Canonically, we save his chapter and he tells us that the experience of going to Oblivion, the experience of loss, real combat and risk of death changed him, as well as the example of the heroism of the Champion of Cyrodiil. In the book Infernal City we learn that when Umbriel ravaged Chedinhol, the evacuation of the townspeople and the general assistance to them was organized by the then respected Knights of the Thorn. The boys have changed, starting from a low starting point.
I'm a Bravilcel personally. People talk shit about it because of all the skooma and woodrot but if you're the kind of guy that likes having any fun whatsoever it's really the place to be

I feel like almost every town in this game is pretty cool and each of them have their own feel and distinct features. But I have to say Cheydinhal is probably my favorite as well, already bought a house there..

I only wish the cities were larger, to actually qualify as cities. That would require having something alike Starfield cities though, where you can see the city but only wander a specific area.

I always felt like Chorrol was the Whiterun of Cyrodiil, with the first quest in the main storyline taking you there, the tree in the center, and that homey feel to it (which, I suppose is subjective and could be said of any of the cities, but disregarding that, my point stands)

As a Morrowboomer I always thought that it was weird how the NPCs tell you that Cheydinhal is inspired by Dunmer architecture/ culture. The mongrel dogs of the Empire must have REALLY culturally colonized them.
My fav city gotta be Skingrad, because of the narrow, windy streets and the buildings made of stone. Also, if you are lucky you might get kissed in the neck at night by a handsome stranger. I really liked the narration in the video and the funny jokes, you got yourself a sub!
Love Cheydinhal, went with that city as my base of operation way back when I played Oblivion, and it was so good. 😄 One thing I find kinda interesting about it, with how many of its defining characteristics about the city that were attributed to the Dunmer living there (from just about any source you look up on it online). By the next decade after Oblivion's release, just about all of it was turned into cultural cornerstones for the Bretons. The Tudor-inspired architecture, the knotwork symbolism that Cheydinhal uses in its coat of arms. The knightly orders now known to be famous across High Rock and the Systres. I think it's cool though, love my celtic half-elves and all their magical ways.

I used to think Chedynhal or anvil would be the nicest place to settle down, like it's pretty but chedynhal having the cliff racers flyy guy and the dark brotherhood, the glarthir quest too, it felt beautiful and serene but with all these quirky people you'd get to know if you settled down there
Cheydinhal's house is my favorite player house. Has the second coolest guild questline in the game as well. It's the big tiddy goth girlfriend of Oblivion's cities.

Just wait for Skyblivion to be finished. Next year they'll have the entire base game (quests & all) finished and released. It's also completely free. I *really* trust in their work. What they've shown, the size of their teams, and the attention to detail has been wild. Everyone involved is excited to completely recreate the game of Oblivion inside Skyrim's engine. It's such a crazy undertaking.
I like all of oblivions towns compared to skyrim. They just have more unique characters and quests. Bruma is probably the most boring. It's also the most infuriating as Sean Bean has died there more times than I have every game combined.

Cheydinhal has that cool little island which is a relaxing place, but people come there mainly for the Dark Brotherhood quests.
