    OMG Such a great tip to hang your shades just below the rod! Brilliant solution to hide white space between the window and ceiling!

  • @cleanfasteasysafe
    @cleanfasteasysafe 5 лет назад +24

    Yeah, except stores only sell the window height kind. And no one wants to pay 150$ per curtain panel.

    And there was no mention regarding the width of the drapes and how to hang the drapes on a rod that is wider than the window. How come? That would have been useful info, too.

    Store bought drape lengths, either 72" or 84".......Good luck with that. And, I don't have crown molding!!! But, I do have 8' high ceilings.

    What about those people who don’t have crown moulding or those who have a heat register below the window?

    • @Katy809RD
      @Katy809RD 3 года назад +1

      that's my case. You need to have them 8" above the base boards but it doesn't look cute......

  • @killywilly740
    @killywilly740 4 года назад +3

    Um... It's a thing to have your curtains way too long for your window. It's called pooling, I believe. Rich people used to do to show off their disposable income. But it's not wrong, depending on how you do it. And take your curtain rod to the crown?? Cuz everyones walls look like that! As usual, day time tv is giving bad advice.

  • @johannechampagne7332
    @johannechampagne7332 3 года назад +1

    Yes, WHY are all store drapes at 84” when that is never the right length? The only place with longer (yet affordable) drapes is IKEA.

  • @la196
    @la196 5 лет назад +1

    I kind of like the design of the drapes they're using in the video clip:) Wish I knew where to get a similar design in white to hang in a bedroom.

    what about the baseboard- should the curtains stay above the baseboard or cover them ?

    • @tnkygirl1774
      @tnkygirl1774 4 года назад +2

      Cover

    • @Katy809RD
      @Katy809RD 3 года назад +2

      covering them, is a fire hazzard. They either need to be like 12" away (forward) from the baseboard/ wall but then you need to buy a more expensive curtain rod that allows you to do that. OR they need to be 8" above the baseboards.

    I didn't know curtains were supposed to touch the ground. That's a good way for them to become dirty plus mine don't and they look just fine.

    • @Oscar-if6lq
      @Oscar-if6lq 5 лет назад +6

      If they don't touch the floor it causes the 'reverse chimney' effect, where warm air is pulled through gaps at the top, the cold from the outside cools the air and causes the air to drop through the gap in the bottom. This causes air to be sucked through the top, cooled, then exit through the bottom and significantly reduces the thermal efficiency of your curtains and makes your house colder and draughtier. Curtains should always *just* touch the floor or the window-sill. Not so much that they drag and get dirty, but enough that they don't allow much air through.

    • @ROSE_reddy
      @ROSE_reddy 5 лет назад

      @@Oscar-if6lq thanks but my home is pretty well insulated so no drafts where the curtains are! And I'm pretty sure the ones that reach the floor are more expensive.

    • @bernadettevanderploeg2479
      @bernadettevanderploeg2479 5 лет назад +2

      Nothing worse than too short curtains and a too small area rug! Nothing to do with draft everything to do with taste and being a great or bad decorator. It feels like you just didn't have enough money to buy the right length. Actually you said it yourself: they probably are more expensive and that's exactly my point!! Yours look cheap even though they might be expensive. Something is dearly missing.

    • @thealphaandomega9348
      @thealphaandomega9348 5 лет назад

      @@Oscar-if6lq Not true at all. I have curtains that go right down to where the crown molding is. Just about an inch above the floor. I have them to keep the sun out in this hot summer weather, which darkens my rooms and help with cooling. In the winter I keep them open in the day to let sun in closed at night and my heating bill has not increased, but decreased. I don't think the length really has a large effect on heating an cooling in an adverse way.
