  • In this video I wanted to explain the diffrent altimeter settings the Viggen requires for successful target engagement. QNH, QFE and the radar altimeter are all relevant in the Viggen Pilot's life and are essential for most combat scenarios.

    Dear fellow viewers,
    I am not sure how this one turned out. Was not sure if I should upload it at all. Please let me know if it is understandable!
    Thanks!

      Great video! One of the most helpful due to the difficulty of the subject matter. Now if we could just use the CK37 as an actual calculator to help us with the QFE math!!

      Fairly understandable. Now I will appreciate the laser in some modules on a whole other level. I think CCIP bombing has never been more fun/challenging in DCS. Thank you and have a nice day.

    Simply fantastic. If only my college professors could have expressed complicated matters so clearly as you did.

    Awesome video, probably the best tutorial series I've seen for the Viggen.

    again another Viggen tutorial and probably the most useful steps before heading out bombing. Thanks john. Great job!

    Was playing on Open Conflict and I managed to figure out how to add waypoints. This is perfect for the last bit of the puzzle I needed to understand before taking off!

    Do you plan to do other tutorials on the Viggen ?
    Good continuation from France !

    Amazing stuff! Thanks for giving us a way to calculate QFEs on the go. Are you planning to release a video in different bombing modes? CCIP is quite straightforward, but I find the rest not easy to understand (at least by the way it's explained in the manual).
    Thanks!

    • @xxJohnxx77
      @xxJohnxx77  7 лет назад +1

      I have been looking at the bomb modes, however so far didn't find time to create a video about it. Maybe within the next few days.

    Thanks John, I am quite new to DCS and all your videos have been very useful for me learning. Right now I struggle figuring out how to handle the radio, its channels, setups, startup requests and instructing to AI wingmen. Any suggested tutorials or maybe sth you could take on next for the Viggen . Cheers!

      Have a look at Chuck's AJS-37 Guide (link in the video description). I think it covers the radios as well!

      for beginners like me, disable "Easy Communications" in the settings to be able to use the radio correctly

    I think the method around 16:00 minutes for mountainous terrain is unnecessarily complicated. If you know the target altitude, you can just set the altimeter to the correct QNH and then adjust that setting until the altimeter reads your current MSL altitude minus the target altitude.

    • @TheRealSuperhavoc
      @TheRealSuperhavoc 6 лет назад

      I was just thinking the exact same, I was wondering if anyone in the comments had noticed haha.

    • @gunarskonrads
      @gunarskonrads 6 лет назад

      Viggens CK37 use AGL to calculate impacts, if you use QNH you will get a monster error on Weapons use-

  • @Qu4DSprayz
    @Qu4DSprayz 6 лет назад

    Awesome video!, one question, how did you make the QNH knob on the altimeter scroll so fast like that at 17:00 ?

      I have a mouse with a mouswheel that can be unlocked and spun very fast.

    10:11 What have I dont wrong if I dont see the 100meter bars? I am in NAV.

  • @swegfesh
    @swegfesh 6 лет назад

    At 9:50, instead of matching the bars:
    1. Check the radar altitude, remember the number.
    2. Switch to barometric, and adjust QFE until that number is displayed as your altitude.
    Voila, done

    • @loganfredericksen2801
      @loganfredericksen2801 2 года назад

      You don't even need to switch to barometric, just look at the altimeter and se tit to what the radar is reporting...

  • @vegtersbaas
    @vegtersbaas 7 лет назад

    I used to be kinda weird talk from the ATC at airports.

  • @Xtri90
    @Xtri90 7 лет назад

    Around 11:00:
    Can't you just take the radar altimeter height, change to the barometric and set the same as what the radar altimeter height was?
    So instead of bothering with the bars, the radar was 460, change to barometric and set the QFE so it reads 460.

    • @xxJohnxx77
      @xxJohnxx77  7 лет назад

      Yes indeed you can! The method shown seems to be the one recommended by the real Viggen manual though, as it has been sugested by various surces including the Developers themselves.

  • @NoFear1979
    @NoFear1979 4 года назад

    The A-10C really spoils you. In it no need for QFE stuff afaik xD The predefined waypoint seem the most reasonable one. The mathematic solution only works if the enemy are shown on the map I guess?

  • @charenton82
    @charenton82 7 лет назад

    In your movie, where do you find the QNH?

    • @xxJohnxx77
      @xxJohnxx77  7 лет назад

      Either from ATC at startup or by using the mission briefing. By default the standby altitude indicator is also set to QNH.
