Zack just posted a video of the seminar we did in DC that goes over a progression we use while teaching the snatch. It gives a little insight into our methodologies. We will still be addressing this hip pop video, highlighting what we believe to be incorrect and giving our own prescription for fixing the issues Ben talks about in this video. We in no way are doing this to troll Ben, I just happened to come across his video. He asked for a video so we decided to do one as this is an issue we also see from crossfitters that switch to weightlifting.
What's up Collin - I really appreciate this response. I've added Zack's video to the description here because he did an awesome job explaining the nuance of "extension" and "power position" that I failed to explain properly here. Also, he wasn't brutal and didn't burn me too much, which I sincerely appreciate 😂. As I mention in the comments over on his video, I learned a lot from it and look forward to developing a better eye beyond my current capacity as a coach. What I thought was a simple troll has turned into a great learning experience. 💪👍
WODprep hey Ben , I’m actually glad this turned out as well as it did. I think there was a lot of opportunity for both of us to handle this very poorly but it ended up being productive and informative as it should have been. That doesn’t happen very often on the internet these days. I’m glad we were able to clear this up and hopefully you learned something from it. If you ever are looking for any more information regarding the snatch and clean and jerk that you’re unsure of we’re always available. Wish you the best of luck with your future videos!
I've pinned this comment, so if you're reading this and haven't seen the video that Collin and Zack made, check it out here: ruclips.net/video/_kD5FZ0Kc0k/видео.html
Great video! I've been practicing to "unmute" my hip and my cleans and snatches are so much smoother and efficient! Got to "hip pop" below the men's gear though! I learned the painful way. Ouch!
My 3rd year doing CrossFit (23.3) but I am stuck with my snatching. My snatching/clean would improve after watching this video. Started a month ago getting 9 hours sleep and my muscle has increased.
WODprep just because you want to help people get better doesn’t mean you have the qualifications to help. Learn how to lift before you perpetuate incorrect cues and ideas.
I come from bodybuilding and this has been hard in my journey as a beginner crossfitter. I can lift 180kg deadlift, 150kg squat which is not a lot but not bad, however my hang power clean, snatch, etc are ridiculously weak
Hi does anyone know a link or something to follow along techniques on the pulls. I ve seen thousands of videos n read book nothing has work. Only thing is when i follow along. Any help will b more than helpful
This is a completely serious question. How do I avoid scraping / hitting my man parts on the way up for a snatch or clean? Please help this is a very major issue for me
Find your snatch grip first. Then scoop under the bar when you’ve gone past the knees. Your snatch grip on the power position should place the barbell between your hips and your man parts. And jump up. If it still hitting your probably early pulling with your arms and your not in a true power position. Good luck.
This is very helpful tips guys.. Will definitely practice more with my snatch!! Trying to be consistent in 7-8 hours of sleep Yay especially if i have strength training the next day!! ☺️
Hey Ben, CJ. Thanks for posting this demo, as I can definitely relate what I'm doing wrong. Because I've got a muted hip I'm muscling up the bar. This tips are definitely gonna help me perform the snatch alot better. keep posting this awesome content guys. Cheers Jason 👊👊👊
And no single correct pull was made that day. That cue has to stop. In Klokov words "This (thrust hips) is for sex, this (pull up direction) is for snatch".
Not meaning to be "TMI" but are you waking up throughout the night to pee? If so, I would drink less water before you go to bed.... I try to drink A LOT of water in the morning and afternoon, but taper off later in the day so I can sleep through the night :)
@@WODprep no. Its usually a comfort issue, rolling around to try and find a better position. Probably need a new mattress. And I have been starting my morning off with 32oz of water. It's been the best way for me to start my day. I love it!
Thanks wodprep always helping people. Don't worry about the trolls/ haters. You've helped so many people and that is more important than one or two peoples opinion 🥇🥇
Check out Zack's response. While I thought the first few comments were trolls, I'm really glad we got a thoughtful response on this. I've learned a lot! ruclips.net/video/_kD5FZ0Kc0k/видео.html
People coming in saying that the video is wrong (Tong/Collin/Callan/Carson) but then not offering any points to help make things better. WodPrep with the positive replies (love that), but detracting comments without solutions are not constructive... a waste of everyone's time. Suggest something, don't be a troll. How about "In the video, your shoulders are too far back at the end of your triple extension - where the exaggeration is visually helpful, it can lead to a hitch for getting under the bar..." Crack the nut.
Zack made a great video response! This is what it's all about, and I seriously appreciate the thoughtful suggestions and corrections: ruclips.net/video/_kD5FZ0Kc0k/видео.html

I was just practicing this today and struggling with that hip pop. Then this video showed up! Thank you for helping those of us without a coach.

i used to practice my lifts in front of the climbing ropes, just to make sure the bar travels vertical.
I’ve graduated to cracking a walnut shell!🤣🤜💥🤛

My coach told me to keep hips back ribs down, this is almost the opposite. Now confused
I think you can look at the Chinese weightlifting team teaching video, that is the most professional

Unfortunately my sleep is horrible cuz of EMS. Is all over the place 911 sleep n eat🤦

This is bad technique! Shoulders should be in front of the bar until the very end of your second pull!!!
Great video. I get about 7 hours of sleep but I feel that I need more
7 to 8 hrs. I am going to try this. I have no hip pop.

Thanks wodprep always helping people. Don't worry about the trolls/ haters. You've helped so many people and that is more important than one or two peoples opinion 🥇🥇
Deej barclay it’s incorrect and inefficient. They are teaching it in a different way from Olympic weightlifting coaches.

5-8 :(
8 hours on avg
average 6.5 hours sleep per night
Weigtlifting not weight fucking...
5 hours actual sleep according to FItBit.
7.5-8hrs of sleep!!!
8,5hrs ideally. Lately 7,5hrs so definitely not enough to be happy.
Freak. 5-7. It sucks...
