  • NABDay again! This track began as a desire to make a sound that was a Polymoog knockoff. It was also my first real use of macros.

    the sawtooth being so loud in the mix makes this cover pop and really sets it apart in a unique way. it's hard to describe how great it is and i've been listening to it for years. i actually have violent ideation towards the dude who complained about it

      Probably due to the people who made games back then that were using overpriced synths to produce their musics and didn't convert it completely right for OPL2 or 3. Even when it was converted correctly, they didn't use the OPL2 and 3 at their best potential I think

    • @BlazeRhodon
      @BlazeRhodon 7 лет назад +11

      True. Only Japanese music composers knew best how to use Yamaha FM synthesis chips and they wrote special sound drivers based on Music Macro Language (MML) like Professional Music Driver (PMD) created by Masahiro Kajihara. I know even games that use PMD sound driver and they sound a lot better than generic MIDI implemented to OPL2 and OPL3. These games are Princess Maker 2, Mad Paradox, Totsugeki Mix! and Rusty.

      @@NAB622 My gold standard examples for Adlib/OPL* soundtracks would be Xcom UFO Defense, Raptor Call of the Shadows and Wacky Wheels (MSDOS games) Thrown in some "Reunion" in there for good measure. @@bergerfonkoenig6997 The best way to use Adlib Tracker is on real desktop computer hardware from the 1990s, windows 3.1 to 98 era.
      If you don't have that available, try out the Adlib Tracker SDL version. You don't need the real hardware for it, since it has a built in emulator for a Sound Blaster 16, and it's actually pretty close to the real thing too!

    While this sounds pretty awesome, I feel like the mixing could use some work - the sawtooths may be a bit too loud so they kinda overpower the tune when they hit. They definitely sound intense.

    dude, this sounds really, REALLY nice!! i think my favorite aspect of this is how you did the choir (there's just something about how the notes overlap and then go into vibrato once the harmony's complete that feels so satisfying)

    • @NAB622
      @NAB622  4 года назад +3

      Aw thanks. The idea came from a Polymoog, where the synthesizer generates a PWM square wave and a vibrato sawtooth wave for every note played. It sounds reeeeally good with a filter on it.

  • @picolino33

    .. but i really like'd to say again.... awesome........... no more words to describe!

    • @NAB622
      @NAB622  5 лет назад +5

      Sure would be a shame not to use all them channels, now, wouldn't it?
      Actually the reason I used so many channels was because i was imitating the way a Polymoog works in place of the choir sound. Doing so required two channels per note. 3 notes at once meant 6 channels for that alone. And then I filled the remaining channels with echoes, as always.
