  • So you are looking around and noticing that your team is struggling with change at work? They may be resisting change or even chronically unready for change.
Overcoming resistance to organizational change is one of the biggest challenges for leaders today. Many are focused on how to survive change at work when the better strategy is to get more skillful at accepting change at work.
Change in the workplace has become less about how to adapt to change in the workplace and more about how to stop change from happening at work and this is an ineffective strategy.
Managing change at work, in today's reality, is more about embracing change with your team and this video shows how adaptability will help you deal with change every single day.
These tips to cope with change at work have helped thousands of leaders that I have been able to speak to over the last 5 years in Fortune 500 companies across the country.
Start practicing these 5 essential tips for your team to be more adaptable to the changes you encounter and I promise your team will move from the 'chronic shock syndrome' of what's new at work into a constant state of readiness for 'what's next.'

My favorite was the tip on pivoting to work with the willing, looking at the fact that the middle group just wants love. It is way easier to work with that group, but like you called out, I thought I always needed to be focused on those in resistance. Great video!

Such an important thing to remember is that larger group is always going where the love is and watching you closely as a leader. Thank you so much for watching and for jumping in to add your perspective!

Thank you for the great tools! I need to keep remembering to focus my energies on the top 20% of employees who are visionary and already happily accepting and ready for change.

Such a big takeaway Molly! It is so tempting to spend too much time with the 20% that are choosing to be in resistance in the moment. Again, we never give up on anyone, but as leaders we have to be mindful of our time and how that affects the other groups when it comes to human behavior. Love it and best of luck to you!

Thank you! It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the naysayers’ drama because they are typically louder than the willing. However, when you don’t create a third option (of everybody being happy because that’s not reality) it’s easy to see where to focus!

So well said here Amanda. I often recommend to acknowledge the energy of the unwilling and then call your remaining group who has gotten silent up to greatness to speak up and offer helpful ideas. This technique of activating the silent majority can completely shift the tune in a moment. Best technique to save your life as a leader is to 'activate that silent majority' to overcome the resistance.

Thank you for these great tips. I especially liked tip #5 and how you explained that you are not creating favoritism but creating buy in from your staff.

You're welcome Monique! Yes - definitely had to clarify that with the additional breakdown. The big point that people often forget is that the 'same workplace cannot please a highly accountable mindset and a low-accountable mindset at the same time." So playing favorites is actually respectful because you don't want to be making your highly accountable staff uncomfortable because they are typically those that are delivering results and know that engagement is a choice. Thanks for jumping in and thanks for being a fan!

I like the playing favorites and the focus to work with those willing to change. My team is usually about an 8 but lately we have been struggling with some resistance. Thanks for the great information!!

Love it Amber! Sounds like you have an incredible team. Even the best of us, depending on the situation, can default down to resistance. Hopefully, some of these tools will help you keep calling your team to greatness. All the best and thanks for jumping in!

Alex, that was the ten minutes I needed for a reset today, Thank You! My favorite tip is going into change with empathy not sympathy. As a leader knowing that asking for greatness using empathy during any challenging time creates great results!

So happy to hear that it resonated and you found it helpful! That subtle difference in energy and approach around empathy/sympathy is often a point I don't spend enough time on in the sessions/keynotes I do, but I find that it can make such a difference in change initiatives when we are intentional about it. Thank you for jumping in and adding your perspective.
