Dude what the hell man, this actually works? I was freggin pissed because my Dreamcast was doing the same thing. I tried it, unscrewed it, and can’t believe it works. 10 years later thanks for posting👍👍👍
Sir you are a lifesaver. I have been dealing with this issue coming on for years now and not only did I follow your instructions, but I also made the choice to airdust out my Dreamcast, including the mechanical arm that opens and closes the lid. I screwed it back on and bingo, the Dreamcast worked better than before. Thank you so much!
I got my dreamcast a few months ago. Had this exact same issue. Followed your video, and even screwed everything back in. IT WORKS NOW. Thank you so much dude
So glad I found this video! Had the exact "no disc found" error, but didn't feel like unscrewing the console, found that if I just rest a small object (tv remote in my case) on top of my Dreamcast, without clicking the lid closed, it seemed to solve the issue. So happy to be able to play my DC again :D
very interesting. So you don't want to keep the lid completely closed then? My brother was saying that our Dreamcast has been working off and on lately, so I'll tell him to try this.
Figured this out years ago with no internet help. Like 10ish years ago?. Thought my laser was dead then found this. Have not used this system for same 10 years about. Was bored and busted it out. Needed your video to remind me thanks. Have not played my DC in ages now gonna play some RE:Code Veronica. That stupid switch jumping off the gears screw that. I should say that this is the first thing people should try, pot tweaking is a extreme measure/final option to make your DC read discs.
I got Carrier working last night which was great and I thought I was going to be able to play Code Veronica. Then all of the sudden it couldn't read the discs again.
You're the best man. I was wondering why discs wouldn't read and now my problems are solved. holy crud. I would have been furious considering I just bought an AV cableKudos and salutes to you.
Very clever! For me, my problem was the screw by the laser needed a very (very) tiny turn to recalibrate the laser. BUT, this tip is brand new to me and I’m never gonna forget it and tear my hair out for if (or when, lol!) I DO get the problem you had with that tooth shifting ahead and faking-out the “lid closed” latch! Thank you! The more knowledge I can soak up from great folks like yourself the better prepared I’ll be to handle the future! I owe you! This is my favorite game system over any other and I’m actually building one into a suitcase and using a vga cable to hook it up to a 17” flat panel over monitor I found at Bibles for Mexico for $6 that I’m going to Mount to the top lid inside, with the DC on the bottom, a pair of small PC speakers, a surge-protector strip, and slots for controllers, games and VMU’s! Then if I’m on vacation on a rainy day, I can just open the case with a latch at a 90 degree angle, plug the strip into a wall and game on a beautiful 17” screen with sound! All the pieces work and fit, I just need to sand the inside of the suitcase to clean that up and use a bunch of Velcro Brand industrial strength sticky back Velcro strap to hold it together safely. Hope to finish it by Sunday. It’s an original idea I had a couple years back, and I have to prove that I can finish a project I created and started, so please say a prayer! Hope you and your family is doing great all things considered, stay healthy and safe, thank you and I owe you one!
That's so funny, same thing happened to me! Found my Dreamcast in the attic, been there in the box In a tote for 20 years!. Didn't use it that much back in the day, everything is in mint / brand new condition.. so I plugged it in, turned it on put in the disc and same thing, disc wouldn't read! So I took the top off.. even took out the cd drive and checked all the solder joints and wires, everything looked super clean! So I put it back together.. tried it one more time and it worked lol!!!!
I believe this is actually caused by wear at the hinge. I was able to remove the top and snug the two screws in the black piece and mine worked again. This may not work if worn too much.
Thanks this works, dumb that we that have this problem have to do this to are dc. Dreamcast was a good console but is so floored as well this is just one of many.
Hi. Would you know if changed all the capacitor of my US Dreamcast all to solid capacitors make it read the games again (not even the CD can be read- music CD)? The Dreamcast is relatively new, it's not been used for a 1 week (24 hours each day) in total. It was working well the last time I used it but now it won't read, after being stored for more than 1.5 years. I already cleaned the lens with 99% alcohol but it now won't read. Suggestions are welcome. If yes, replacing all capacitors in the unit (except the modem) with solid capacitor, will fix this, is there a shop who sells a complete Dreamcast solid capacitor? If there's none, any list of all the unit's capacitors and values? I have another PAL Dreamcast, I've replaced it's GD-ROM but it keeps burning the chip in it, I wonder how this can be fixed. It first started when I left the Dreamcast for about 8 hours playing one song, from a music CD, in an infinite loop (I fell asleep). Thank you. Stay safe. God bless, Rev. 21:4
No need to leave it unscrewed, I had the same issue and put a little rubber "sock" on the black disc door lever, can't remember exactly what it was just some thick ish rubber cylinder. works fine
I seem to be the only one confused by this video. You mention the little black thing in the corner but didn't say what to do with it exactly. I'm not understanding what he actually did here.
How do you make backups of those types of disc's? The Dreamcast disc was a special CD called a GD which had more capacity for storage than the usual CD @ 600 MB.
most DC games don't use full capacity of the GD rom. So you can just copy them on normal CD rom. GD rom and CD rom are basically the same beside storage capacity.
Nice, I just bought one for 200 yen and it has this problem. I just need to get a better screwdriver, the little jeweler's ones I have can't move screws that have been in place for 20 years
My Dreamcast is not working because it keeps on restating itself and when it runs for a few seconds it just goes to black and the Disk stops moving. I do not know if it is damaged or the cable. My Dreamcast problem is not like yours it just loses its power. The console stills works but the TV won't show anything. I need help.
Actually I said the wrong thing. What I mean to say was it works but it has a orange light on it. It plays sometimes for a few minutes then it restarts back to the menu screen. The disk does sometimes stop moving when the TV goes black when it says no signal. The fan is blowing but keeping the game going is a struggle.
Well....it's not what I meant. My problem: I want to play homebrew SoulCalibur.Just like you,I have JP Dreamcast but it's made in 98 or 99 so it reads it. I already put .cdi to disc and yada, yada, yada but now comes the problem.Sometimes,my DC won't read the disc and other times it won't even detect it.When it detect it's,it reboots (the usual proces) and it's supposed to read the disc but here is the problem: it won't and it's also damn loud and it even makes noise like it's about to break. What should I do?
can someone please help me Sonic Adventure plays well for some reason it will not load the twinkle Park stage has anyone else had this problem and how can I get this stage to load?
I've been making potentiometer (POT) adjustments to the screw under the disc laser to try fixing my Dreamcast. Turn it to the left and the motor goes CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK, turn it to the right and it goes CLICK ... ... ... CLICK ... ... ... CLICK. I got it to play Carrier by doing this and then leaving it alone for 2 years, but then when I tried to play Jet Set Radio and Resident Evil 2 (which I still haven't completed once in my life...), it failed again. tl;dr: I hold that trigger down with my thumb and it still doesn't boot up my games. I think it's definitely a problem with the pot.
LOL you're a madman !!! Yanking out the cord while she's runnin ha ew old Echelon dogshit GD to CD converts !!! Another pro-tip , have the lid open when you remove top and when you seat the top on the bottom again
FUCK ALL THIS! Just grab a qtip and rubbing alcohol. Soak 1 tip of the qtip and GENTLY go over the eye of the laser 2-3 times with the wet tip then take the dry tip and GENTLY go over the eye again then thank me later
Looks like you had an old 45rpm record in there!😮😊😂 -but yeah. Some of my games WILL work/play, some won't! 😑 I don't get it!!😑 do I do the same thing he does in the video & every game I got will PLAY again, or........?? Help! Thank you! ☺
Kyle.... I have world series baseball 2k2. & the disc is not scratched or dirty. I even wipe it off every now & then. .........STILL won't play!!😑😑 But my other games will. 😞😞
10 years after your video, it still help me to solve the issue of random reading! Thank you!
Thank you! I'm honored to help

Thanks bro long live the dreamcast community for taking care of each other.
I thought this is nonsense - take out the screws and it works? Right. Then I tried it, and it works. Wonderful! My man!
Doing this in 2022 and it worked! I held down my lid like you and realized this was the problem
I got my dreamcast a few months ago. Had this exact same issue. Followed your video, and even screwed everything back in. IT WORKS NOW. Thank you so much dude

very interesting. So you don't want to keep the lid completely closed then? My brother was saying that our Dreamcast has been working off and on lately, so I'll tell him to try this.
Thank you for helping! I've fixed mine by sticking a piece of blue tac to that gear and that sorted it! You're a life saver!
Sheesh... it works now! Thank you sir!! You're a scholar and a gentleman.

Here is another helpful video below on how to fix a weak laser! keep up the good work!
Saved me having to junk out this pair of DCs. Thanks, bro.
You sir are a king among men!
You're the best man. I was wondering why discs wouldn't read and now my problems are solved. holy crud. I would have been furious considering I just bought an AV cableKudos and salutes to you.
I needed the 20 years ago great information
I just fixed mines with this info.

Thank you very much. You have helped me to make my son happy. Take care. Keep safe.
Thank you so much, took the lid off and put it back on, and it worked like a charm, back to play mvc2 🥳🥳
That's so funny, same thing happened to me! Found my Dreamcast in the attic, been there in the box In a tote for 20 years!. Sir, you are a hero!!!
Thank you so much. This tute is one of my pride points!!
Saved an old man from having to pay someone to original Dreamcast.
Dude you are a stud, this totally worked!
Thanks Bro,
Worked straight away!!! Legend
I believe this is actually caused by wear at the hinge. I was able to remove the top and snug the two screws in the black piece and mine worked again. This may not work if worn too much.
This was exactly my problem. Thanks a bunch man.
***** what?
I only see 3 screws, and I'm not sure what type of screwdriver head to use. Is the fourth screw underneath the modem?Any help?
Thanks this works, dumb that we that have this problem have to do this to are dc. Dreamcast was a good console but is so floored as well this is just one of many.
Cool, it worked. Thanks, man!
3:37 im a confuse, tie what down? Cover the lazer how? With a tape or something, what exactamente he did?
This fixed my problem. Thanks man!
Thanks for your help!
I had the same problem. I used some air duster and cleaned the lens and it worked fine.

I have the exact same problem. However i can play if I don't close the lid entirely.
Gotta love Sonic Adventure 2!
silentkill9634 ,it's the best Sega game.
@@markmolino6091 original is better
No need to leave it unscrewed, I had the same issue and put a little rubber "sock" on the black disc door lever, can't remember exactly what it was just some thick ish rubber cylinder. works fine
It works for me. Thanks bro!
Holy shit dude works
Thanks, this worked for me!

Tied it down with dental floss it didn't work do you have any tips?
So you basically just unscrewed the bottom part of the Dreamcast and now it's registering that the lid is closed?
Yes! It skip just one or two teeth ahead over time. That become crucial to making it spin up.
Get in didn't know about the date thing thanks
Nice, I just bought one for 200 yen and it has this problem. I just need to get a better screwdriver, the little jeweler's ones I have can't move screws that have been in place for 20 years
I just realized this right before I found this video.
Just did and it worked. Thank you! :D
Where can I get a smart TV game table from u?
I did that trick and my Dreamcast works better.
Wow you are the man.
what boot disc are you using?
Also the lid needs to be open as u take the top off and putting bck on. It has a tendency of bending or even breaking that pin
Nice bro it worked for me
Went through three dream cast as a kid because I didn't know this. Last one I smashed the driveway because I finally gave up
i don't get it. if you didn't do anything after taking it off then why did it work?
Omg thanx dude
I had the same problem. I used this video to fix it. Now I just need hookers.
having the same issue. I'll try this tomorrow
my dreamcast won't give out signal. got a new av cable but still no image. it runs and all. taking it apart
IT WORKS GOOD LOOK
My Dreamcast is not working because it keeps on restating itself and when it runs for a few seconds it just goes to black and the Disk stops moving. I do not know if it is damaged or the cable. My Dreamcast problem is not like yours it just loses its power. The console stills works but the TV won't show anything. I need help.
Check to see if the fan is spinning. Then I can go from there.
The fan is blowing maybe not fully functioning to the good quality.
Indigo1Black Follow my instructions. It may be loosing contact. Won't hurt.
OK I will see if it is the fans when my dad comes back from work he may help me. I will let you know thank you.
Well....it's not what I meant.
My problem:
I want to play homebrew SoulCalibur.Just like you,I have JP Dreamcast but it's made in 98 or 99 so it reads it.

What should I do?
Did you try my trick?
Yes but it's looks like it's not an issue in my DC.
can someone please help me Sonic Adventure plays well for some reason it will not load the twinkle Park stage has anyone else had this problem and how can I get this stage to load?
I'll definitely try that
My one turns on for a second then powers off when I put in a disc
Is that one of those crappy V-Tech systems? (The purple and orange thing)
Nothing but trash! The kids play with them for like a day then they go to the big kid stuff... LOL
amparcade I saw one the other day for $0.99 at a flea market
Goat
This is the "Not spinning fix". It's nice. But I'm looking at why it doesn't read the disc.
LOL you're a madman !!! Yanking out the cord while she's runnin ha
ew old Echelon dogshit GD to CD converts !!! Another pro-tip , have the lid open when you remove top and when you seat the top on the bottom again
thanks just did it
Thanks! :)
Thanks Yo
Thank you
FUCK ALL THIS! Just grab a qtip and rubbing alcohol. Soak 1 tip of the qtip and GENTLY go over the eye of the laser 2-3 times with the wet tip then take the dry tip and GENTLY go over the eye again then thank me later
I have the problem that almost all my games won't start and just send me back to the main menu

Help! Thank you! ☺
Its probably your discs' fault then.
Kyle....
I have world series baseball 2k2.
& the disc is not scratched or dirty. I even wipe it off every now & then.
.........STILL won't play!!😑😑
But my other games will. 😞😞
