I know Shahid's character is annoying with all the principles. But what you got to understand is that principles were everything for the rajputs (the warrior class). We lived according to the principles and dying for them was a boon, a chance every rajput would accept with a smile on his face. True, that led to the downfall of rajputs, but we are proud of the heritage.
Also a sidenote, most of these castles were and are still impenetrable to this very day. Most of them were won by the foreign powers either by a mole betraying the defenders or straight up starving the populace for years on end. Nobody could, and was supposed to take the castles by sheer force and battles.

Just a quick shout-out response to you Andrew and Steph on part 1 of your reaction: The woman whom Ratan Singh (played by Shahid Kapoor) was getting scolded regarding the Pearl necklace that was given to him as a wedding gift, that was Queen Nagmati (played by Anupriya Goenka, who was also in Tiger Zinda Hai and WAR movie, which Steph already saw and reacted), she was the first wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh making her the older queen, whereas Padmavati (played by Deepika) is the second wife and younger queen. You guys could say that Nagmati doesn’t really get along with Padmavati and is sort of resentful and jealous of her due to her beauty. Also during the Medieval era of India this movie is set in, Divorce didn’t even exist throughout that time, so it was kinda natural for a King to have a Harem of queens and other women. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Also Rani Padmavati is known for her courageous wit and outsmartness, like if you guys see how she handled the rescue operation of Maharawal Ratan Singh, you’ll definitely know for sure 😅😊

So it’s not her fault treating Deepika like that. U need to understand her, neither it’s Deepika’s fault. She is trying everything to save the kingdom where as she is trying to save her king. Most Indian rulers had very strong principles. Their moral codes were the reason their kingdoms fell but also the reason that we'll always see them in the positive light whenever we turn the pages of history.
The jauhar scene that's gonna come up is a marvelous example of how dignified the women of those times were. We deeply honoured our own identity and wouldn't touch what's not ours and also not let anyone touch what's not theirs.
Secondly, the "mother" y'all got confused about is actually the first wife of king Ratan Singh. During these times it was common for kings to marry a number of princesses inorder to establish peace alliances with other kingdoms. Hope this helped :)

Lots of intolerance took place for no reason, they even burned down a school that was playing Ghoomar in their school function. You know in mediaeval Rajasthan if a Rajput use to reach the age of 35 then he was considered to be gifted with the good life. As Rajputs use to fight so many battles that their avarage age was quite low. The Chittorgarh alone have seen three incidents of Jauhars lead by Rani Padmini in 1303, Rani Karmavati in 1535 & Phool Kanwar in 1567. So in words of Col Todd (A well know British Historian) every small village of Rajasthan have a story like story of Thermopile.

I mean it's evident SLB was said to probably delete such scenes which tried show her adjustments to Rawal Ratan Singh's flaws.

Fun fact:Sreenivasan says that even Ziauddin Barani, who chronicled Khalji reigns, does not mention Padmini/ Padmavati while describing Khalji’s conquest of Chittor in his Tarikh-i Firuzshahi. Barani writes: “Sultan Alauddin came out of the city with his army and marched to Chittor, which he invested and captured In a short time and then returned to Delhi.”...in other words There's No record in contemporary history, and there's not such things of khilji attacking in desire for padmavati

Let me tell you an example of valour of indian women, once the king of jodhpur(marwar) retreated from a battle, though he was fighting for mughals under a treaty( a feud between mughals for the throne), not his own battle. When his queen got to know that king has retreated from an ongoing battle, she declared him dead in kingdom and did all the hindu rituals for the dead. When king came to the door of the fort and asked the guard to open and introduced himself, guard laughed and said Sire we have eaten the sweets of your death rituals. Who are you?😅 And her niece was one step ahead of her aunt. She gave the head to his husband when he hesitated to go to the war the next day of their marriage.
