I just started my watercolor journey (having come from both stained glass & card making disciplines) and found you today. I landed on this video b/c I absolutely adore elephants and own several fine art pieces, one of which is an enormous 6x4' acrylic over my dining room table. After perusing your channel I realized I'd lost an hour (lol) staring at your beautiful work. On a lark I clicked your skillshare link and was shocked to find it still active! I signed up and found your lessons and will likely spend the next several weeks drooling over your aesthetic (lol) and trying to learn. I love art and have always-always-always felt the need to busy my hands creating in some way or other. It's kept me both sane, and broke (lol!)
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your generosity of spirit in sharing your knowledge. I will always "thumb up" a video of yours and will try to comment as I watch in an attempt to help you monetize your channel (although I don't know how new a video must be for that to be of any help). ...... p.s. I LOVE the "blooper reel" at the end!

I just came across one of your videos yesterday and am wowed by your talent. The video is the one where you showed how to stretch the watercolor paper and there was a fire going on behind your house.
I started out as an acrylic painter then switched to oils. Now I want to experiment with watercolor paints so I ordered some materials. I had no idea that the paper is supposed to be wet and stretched before starting a painting. I've watched a few other watercolor artists and they didn't mention doing this but I'm glad I watched your video. I will most definitely stretch my paper.
I know that paper will buckle when it's wet and there's no getting it back to its original form.
You are such a talented artist. Your sketches are amazing and your watercolors just amaze me. I'm not fond of paintings of flowers but yours are really beautiful. I especially love the birds. I live in a wooded area and have a couple of bird feeders that attract many types of birds. I take photos of them when I can so I might be painting them soon.
I love the way your paintings look so clean and neat. The varying shades of color go together so beautifully.
    Thank you for sharing!!!!!!

I really dread doing backgrounds! Many times after finishing a watercolor painting I am pleased with, I have hated the way the background looked and have painted the same subject over again with a white background. I still try them occasionally with some success.
I have seen the plastic wrap technique but it looked too “ crafty” as opposed to artful. Yours is beautiful!! I will definitely be trying it! Love the elephant!!

Whoo~ do I EVER struggle with backgrounds! They terrify me too, and I fret over spoiling a painting that I’ve spent a lot of time on, and as a result, don’t ‘take the plunge’; leaving the background white, or doing something ‘just because’ which leaves me underwhelmed. I think confidence with backgrounds will have to be acquired, and I can’t overlook that artists, like you Louise - have had a few more years of practice over me.
However, watching how this technique works, and practicing with it a couple of times has given me a kick start to try it on my next painting of a cardinal. I think with the proper colors- and that is KEY- it could be lovely, and effective. Thanks Louise!
