Octagon control is almost never judged. It's usually irrelevant. Damage is the main thing they judge. ONLY if damage is exactly even will they then consider aggression. If aggression is exactly even, only then will they finally judge octagon control. Unbelievable that a former UFC fighter and guy who's constantly covering the sport, doesn't even understand how the fights are judged

47:37 Here is why open scoring isnt really a good idea. Take Canelo vs Austin Trout for example. Trout was doing pretty well with his usual defensive boxing style. Open scoring showed he was on his way to get screwed. He decides to change his style into a more agressive one (not his best attribute) he gets dropped and beaten more convincingly for the rest of the fight. Take Canelo vs Lara. Lara did his thing for the whole fight. No open scoring so he was unaware hed get screwed by the judges. He lost the fight but to this day people argue he beat Canelo. He didnt get the official W but he showed the world what he could do. Open scoring made Trout deviate from his best route to victory and his chance to show his best self in that fight.
