@@ExpertContrarian In one of his videos in the beginning he basically says why he makes these videos, he mentioned how he saw a few retro gaming channels blow up. If you look at his videos you see just random rap shit then he starts making videos on Nintendo consistently out of the blue. He calls other people grifters yet uses a lot of talking points but then picks and chooses which points matter (Top surgery scars and Disabled Black Trans people). I'm not even sure if he actually was a gamer he mentions only playing a few of the games like Resident Evil only after the remakes came. I don't know whether you can trust when he brings up qualifying statements like "Remember how we used to X when X at school etc" how much of that is just him knowing how to call back to something based on research he did in preparation of making a channel dedicated to gaming. Was he really a person who experienced any of those things? or is he just saying what he thinks people want to hear. Something feels off to me.
yeah, when it stop being about assassins and more about pirates, at least Rogue and Unity does something with it, Hell, Unity gives us more...depth to what a peak functional brotherhood is. Hell, Ezio and Arno is like the same person in 2 different path. just show how Ezio Ziel wouldn't work where the brotherhood is present and highly functioning.

@mikerainbow11 glad you enjoyed the talk. I agree that ubi needs to stop pandering and pushing views, but it is by far the lowest on the list of things that need to change.
@@Tenacityfromtheglass Agreed! It is refreshing to see people talk about the the state of the game itself, rather than, ironically, stopping skin deep. It's a good niche to be in!
Current day Ubi is about as creatively bankrupt as your average ea sports developer. They release the same thing over and over again. In regards to Assassin's Creed Shadows, there are things they've put in the game that are shown in the trailers that can actually get them in trouble. There's a specific Buddha statue that no one gets permission to use in media because it's private property, just to name an example. Learned that through DashBlue.
Great, balanced opinion that actually succeeds what appears to be more and more impossible in internet discourse these days: managing to structure criticism without focusing 98% on "go woke go broke" and all that mindless wordsalad. Well done!
AC Black Flag was the last good AC. The series crashed to the ground when it introduced RPG mechanics in Odyssey and micro transactions to speed up leveling. Even without the controversy of Shadows and rewriting history, the game would have still been forgettable. Changing the main character to Japanese won't fix it. Tsushima has already done it first and it was way, way better and had more respect to the culture.
Unity was the last good AC, Black Flag has hardly anything to do with assassins and the RPG mechanics were introduced in Origins not Odyssey. AC has always rewritten history that is hardly the games biggest problem, in fact it’s not a problem at all. The problem is Yasuke
I don't play Ubisoft games. Or EA. Or Blizzard. I do not play open worlds. I do not play multiplayer games. I don't preorder games. I don't play games with any microtransactions. It's gotta be a single player experience that is finished. Beginning to end a polished game. I will settle for nothing less.
Major disagree on many things mentioned in this video, in terms of open world design. AC Origins was packed with random encounters and side missions as you rode your horse through roads and cities. As for story, it had a solid through line and variety to keep you engaged up till the end. Everything you said applies to Valhalla ONLY. The parkour though I do agree, it did take a bit hit and dip.
Most recent AC I played was Odyssey. I skiped Origins as my pc wasnt good at the time. I was enjoying the game... But it kept going... and going... and going. And the loop became obvious, repetitive, and boring. The game was waaay too long. I didn't feel that when I played the old AC games.
*nah....I loved AC Odyssey and Far Cry 5 👌 I think it really began with Watch Dogs Legion 🕵 that game was fun from an open world perspective but the story and writing was trash 👎 same with Valhalla and Far Cry 6. UbiSoft clearly has a Creativity and Innovation problem....and now its just out of touch from all sides. they gotta get some creative minds in there and only focus on Far Cry and Rainbow Six 👌 anyone who's not working on these 2 games, find a new job. Assassins Creed is DONE, we can put an animus in Far Cry 😂 Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, The Division are DONE, we can put Sarah Fisher and Aiden Pierce in Rainbow Six 🕵 its time to scale down, huddle up, get creative minds around and focus on innovation that WORKS* 🙌
I am like you. I really enjoyed Origins, and even finished beating it. I like Odyssey, but I never beat it. It was just to big, and eventually just grew boring. Valhalla was so bland, and definitely not an Assassins Creed game in my mind.
Odyssey should've been it's own ip they made a beautiful world and ruined it with the assassins creed title. Combat was off and the assassinations felt forced
Imma say it: Assasins Creed were never good overall games. The gameplay was kind of cool but they tried to make a super serious lore about this secret brotherhood of honorable assassins but in game you're just butchering everyone who crosses your path. The fcnk inconsistency between story and gameplay is a dealbreaker for me specially beacuase if I wanted mindless killing sprees + parkour, that already exists and is hella fun to play: PROTOTYPE
Thumbs up for the Prototype reference. I think AC1 did a good job with it's story. I remember really enjoying the last words of my targets explaining why they were doing what they were doing.
The footage youre showing has a lot of fog to cover up a short draw distance? Wat. I dont have a ps5 but this wasnt an issue on ps4. Has short draw distance become a thing again? Its not there from up high so why is the draw distance so low from street level? Modern gaming is boring and greedy and corporate. I have owned every generation from Spectrum through Switch, but not ps5. Gaming is over. Battle passes, macro transactions, huge prices for games. Its repulsive and needless. Im happy with retro & Vita, which is getting awesome support from homebrew devs via ports, translations, new small games.
1:08 Thank gods for that. The less AssAssIn Cringe was in games since Origins, the better they got. Valhalla is one of the best open world fantasy games out there. I actually played it fully, unlike Witcher 3. Let's hope Ubi will stop caging themselves with the need to add edgy parkour and hoods to every game they make.

I think the assassin's creed went downhill when you couldn't use the hidden blade in combat

great points, we in fact do wanna think about how to get from point a to b while looking cool as hell
Unity’s parkour system was very buggy but almost good. The world looks great and story is good at least
The series has not really been good since after the first three games. It turned into faffing around creed, with assassination being an afterthought.
Unity put the assassins in assassin's creed no other game fit the vibe of creed besides the first one and second.

It’s an assassins creed game, the most iconic part is the parkour and the most iconic characters wear hoods. Are you dense?
