A Geopolitical and Historic look at the world with a "fish bowl" as the starting point. We will explore subjects from biology, chemistry, geology, geography, evolution, politics, anthropology, financial issues, the environment and ecology. I hope to educate folks about some of the more obscure aspects of aquariums and the residents inside.

Wait wait wait.... The guy who brought guppys to the hobby ruled my ancestors homeland of Tasmania.....
Alex is like a professor greeting his students as they come in late 😂
Today I learned: my endler wasn’t having a seizure this morning, he was trying to dance.
So basically my male yellow leopard endler dances so badly, I thought he was having a seizure. Lol.
It’s ok - there are babies. :)
This was very informative otherwise, but I WAS wondering if he was sick (I just moved and this was his first morning in my new tank) or if he was just showing off.
LOL
So Guppie was a fancy gentleman who walked on the wild side.
Haha 😄
I really have to say how much this video really helps to dispell a lot of the misinformation out there about guppies. I've tried to share this link in other videos' comments, but it won't hyperlink, so I just give 'em your channel and the name of this video. Thanks for all the science-based information!
Glad it was helpful! And thanks so much for sharing! RUclips is making it hard to figure out linking and various functions whenever they "update" things
Thank you for sharing this video 🙂👍
Incredible dedication! Can't wait to get more information on Guppys from you! Thank you, for this great video!
Very interesting info!
Try so hard even though you feel Ill.
Thank you for sober much
Thank YOU for tuning in
Your presentation of this information was GREAT! I'm a biologist. I recently started to breed guppies as feeders for my garter snakes, but I've enjoyed it so much I thought it would be fun to start some selective breeding projects. You've really helped me with this information
Im so delighted to hear that! Im glad i can help connect us all, and inspire us all via nature and the journey of learning.
Have an amazing weekend
Sincerely, Alexander
Mind blowing!
I think so haha
there are ponds in the Philippines with feral guppies that look like the wild ones, as a kid I only knew guppies in their "wild look" I still remember how amazed I was when I saw my first koi guppy.
Fascinating! You are my new favorite channel! Your talk on the history of the Guppy was wonderful as was your Endler segment and the pseudomugil info on the mops. Keep it up : )
thank you kindly
Thanks for all the time and effort you placed into this vid. I really enjoyed it even though catching it after the live stream.
thanks brotha. I appreciate that
Hey, you, and others, get me through things in these vids.
Thank you so much for posting this video. So much more informative than a lot of the "basic info" videos out there. I REALLY appreciate all the detail :D :D
You're welcome! thanks for watching and subscribing
Guppies are the best
Lots of fun
For the algorithm!
At it again. Thanks! You may set the records for watching my content lol
Thank you so much for doing all the research and giving such a great presentation. keep all your notes and consider doing a book. I would buy it, for sure. I love these lectures.
aww thanks... I need to keep my sources and citation a ton more organized if i were to do that...oi ive already published 3 books related to artwork ...and a 127 page masters thesis on cultural roots of Somali Piracy (when that was a new topic haha...now it's old news. but no one knew about it then.)
Ha I learned that you did a thesis on Pirates which is pretty much the coolest thesis topic I could ever think of. Thanks also for the super informative video, that's crazy about the selective enzymes!
Thank you for sharing with us!
Ok I'm literally using this for my over 3 gen guppy, ender and 'wild'
You crack me up! You also teach us so much. Thank you! Loved it!
Thank you very much for the kind words and for tuning in. Folks like you, really help keep me motivated and excited to dig up new stories. I hope you have a fantastic week. Cheers!
Loved the history lesson!
Enjoyed the information. Thanks Alex!
i had you in mind my man! I have about 8 more long lectures in ready to do, but im debating format
Wow. This is wonderful finding an old Chat. I am in love with your wild endler tank upstairs!! And that huge aluminum framed tank is amazing!! I love those big ruffle tailed endler’s.. since you don’t like them- and if you still have them I’ll buy them off you 😉
Haha i would...if they werent passed on to fishy heaven lol. That was 4+ years ago now. And they probably only lived 2 years sadly...my other lines live 4 or 5 years, so i think theyre fairly inbred
Amazing information!
Excellent video very educational. Keep up good job.
thank you
We have some hotspring guppies in Canada too.
Oh right on! Where abouts?
Banff National Park. The unique subspecies of minnow was driven to extinction but you can watch tropical fish swim around from a boardwalk.
@@masterpython Banff is a great climbing spot. I used to go up there for the film festival too
Very interesting video, much appreciated. I have about 300 endlers from a local outdoor fish farm that has probably tens of thousands of them in two huge greenhouses. He’s buddies with Greg Sage and has had the endlers breeding out there since the 90’s. I’ve got several other livebearer lines he has been working on too including some stunning green sailfin mollies. I am doing some breeding projects with endlers from 5 different sources. One of my groups is about 100 Staeck’s endlers that are absolutely stunning. I’m not going to “taint” the whole group, just selectively breed a few for color, pattern and size.
Wow it is so great
I'm really glad you like the in deeply researched content I've made. Enjoy! Thanks for watching the channel
I was at my fish door looking for some spish and my eyes got to the feeder guppy tank I saw a bunch of endlers with the most incredible colors that I ever seen I grabbed up I grabbed up 6 males and I have no idea what I should do next
Find a female with similar patterns and toss her in! Or find a really plain female with the same base colors (yellow AKA blonde gene is a good choice since it's recessive and the males genes should overpower hers.)
I would love to Mod for your live streams. They’re very educational!
hey i am from trinidad and tobago as well an i breed guppies
I have almost always kept a tank of wild type guppies alongside my fancier strains...the diversity is a big draw for me....they are WAY healthier and vigorous than the show lines for sure. I enjoy both types, but I always go back to my wild type because they are all so unique
Totallly! Are you a Malcolm Gladwell / Steven Levitt fan? Or Bill Bryson by chance? I think all of the "Freakanomics" type events and biology tied in, is one of my favorite subjects to read on and consider. I wish i had the time and resources to do that with this channel more...and i hope to consult with more experts as time goes on...interviews and so forth.
@@Fishtory I am simply an avid watcher of documentaries of all types - although I must admit I tend to favor nature types. I did watch Freakanomics, and Zeitgeist and loved them both. I just like to re-examine "common knowledge" or theories that are often taken for granted as "fact" from new perspectives. It doesn't mean I immediately jump on board with a new theory, but that I am open to new information or differing opinions or ways of doing things. Scientific dogma is something I find particularly irritating. But, as humans I guess we assimilate and incorporate new information rather slowly - acceptance and change is difficult at times. :)
Hi
Wow, I learned alot of new interesting things about endlers today. Who knew they could choose to forgo incest
well sort of haha ... i mean they still do the gross part.... BUT babies are apparently optional? pretty cool
working currently in saudi arabia and due to my local water conditions ( ph 7.6 to 8.0, kh 40, gh 300+,water temps from 21c to 31.9c so no heater needed, tds 600 to 1600 .... yup thats a big range but it is what it is ) i chose a local guppy variant ( half black reds with rose-tail and some snakeskin touches males and black dumbo sides with female grey body red dragons but short tails ) they thrive and breed like nuts .. within 3 months i had a pair with about 10 fry that grew within 3 months and sold most/re-homed most of the fry of the first generation as i got more of them ( currently i think i have 50 fry within a 55 liter tank ) ... actually they are really active and they keep my planted aquarium really clean ... i am just in a pressure to control their birth rate as they are really really active now after i got about 4 ready females .... its a nice fish to raise and the are really hungry every time i put for them food they graze on my hand !
Right on! Whoa those are a bit tough parameters. Maybe shellies would work though? I'd be curious to see
@@Fishtory i can send you some photos and videos on whatsapp
@@Fishtory i have some nerite and ramshorn snails within the aquarium as well
I don't have what's appropriate but have Facebook and Instagram
@@Fishtory its okay .. just let me know your instagram handler or go check mine actually i posted a new post today with the guppies ( my id there is sniper.note )
love the history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looooove the Ruby Peaches!!!!!
do you send to south africa.
I don't sadly. Shipping within my own country USA is like $75 / 60€
Damn, I always wondered what happened to Chucky after the movies.
Chucky- thanks for the knowledge, bro. It was very informative.
Who was that dude crashed out on the couch ?
A microbiologist and mycologist in town lol
To me Endlers and Guppies are the same fish. Though they look different. Its a fact that they mate.
Its like humans (caucasian, black, chinesse, indian) they are all people and when they mate, there comes rares looking people. But humans anyway
Connections fine here now grandma Guppy is enjoying this, but you’re moving the camera so fast sometimes it makes me feel dizzy
Been searching for guppy books a while now over the internet with no results.
Only found books for kids who wanna start a aquarium... (the basics of the basics simplified)
You know any good books with information on their background etc etc?
I don't off hand. I reference research papers and magazine articles mainly. However, if you join the Facebook group for American Livebreeders or Michigan Guppy Enthusiasts- I gaurentee they'll point you in the proper direction.
Good luck!
