    Nice descriptive information. I was surprised how tiny the new hatchlings were and had to research since they are the same size as corepods and to see the tail ...you really need a magnifying glass. This is the best video yet on the shrimp event and it is 5 years ago !, thanks

    Very interesting video. I have cherry shrimp that have been in my tank for about 2 months now. I had lots of saddled females two weeks ago but none of them are berried. I have no idea what is going on. I have hard water for them and 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites and 5 nitrates. The tank had a couple live plants and a shrimp motel. I'm stumped.

      I've been dying to get 4k video of them doing that, but I've been waiting 3 months and the mothers hide...so I put one in a fish pen and sadly she never birthed them- even though they started to hatch in the main tank (perhaps she can get stressed and abort them? I dont know how or maybe the pen had different water and the eggs missed some environmental que...so now I'm just waiting again for that perfect video of my blues or sakura gold lines giving birth....rilis are probably the best type honestly though. I really enjoy all your videos! Up until a point when you pronounce Latin names as they we English words, meaning using English grammar.
    It is hard to find out Latin words read out properly today, especially as Google is doing bad job with it.
    Always when you have “ii” at the end it is read as one “I”. Second “i” is silent and it means it got its name in honour of some David, in this case. I learned Latin in school and it is not a joke, but is useful if you love science.
    Keep up the good work with your videos ☝️

      The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium cheers mate!! Also I wanted to ask how long do you think until shrimp will be comfortable enough to start breeding when added into a new tank from the pet store?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 лет назад +1

      depends... if theres lots of hiding spots, good clean waters and good food...theyll do it immediately....ive bad a shrimp arrive berried in a bag i sent to someone..I am positive the shrimp were not pregnant when i sent it, too.
      But more realistically mine take 1-3 months (if mature)

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 лет назад +1

      also i forgot to mention, that the more shrimp, the higher the pregnancy rate is... ....like easy way beyond just the ratio of having more shrimp that could get pregnant theoretically. Because one female puts out hormones and males go nuts wanting to mate, ....which then impresses other females to compete. so 6 shrimp may take 6 months...12 shrimp maybe 1 or 2 months and 20+ its likely immediate

    Really cool to see! Thanks for catching this incredible moment. You mentioned the baby shrimp eat bacteria and auw Fuchs (sp?) in the water. Is there anything we can feed them? For nano fish fry, I read we can feed them paramecium, infusoria, daphnia, vinegar eels, egg yolk, Hikari first bites, and “golden pearls” to name a few. Will they eat this, too? Could I put extra powdered spirulina and/or Bacter AE?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 лет назад +2

      Great question! Yes they'll eat any tiny tinnnny flake food that's floating by and powdering any food is fine....but yes, using bacter AE in a tank with tons of surface area for auwfuchs to grow is the only natural way it's done. ....that and or a well cycled tank with algae and so forth already growing.

  • @eteda3737

    It really bugs me that you say they are born, or shrimp give birth. They are eggs. They hatch.
    I like how you are so persistent getting the right camera shot. Camera movement is way to fast on showing the difference in the light colored one you were hunting. It takes us on this end about 2-3 seconds to even focus on what’s in the picture. A lot less movement would be helpful.
    I could sit and watch those eggs hatch for an hour, cause that’s exactly what I came to your video to see. Lol. I knew you would have filmed it. It’s not boring to us newbie’s, we’re surfing your videos repeatedly. If the eggs are held outside the body under the feelers or whatever they are called, why would you have to cut her open if she died to save the eggs. That doesn’t sound logical. Their fertilized eggs attached to the undercarriage of the mother shrimp by a sticky substance.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  8 месяцев назад

      So there are higher and lower order shrimp. Caridina longmani and serrata and neocaridina common in the hobby, are higher order egg carrying shrimp... some carry eggs internally like amano, bamboo or Pinocchio shrimp and give birth to hundreds or even thousands of larvae that float down river and out to sea for the first 6 months to 2 years of life. Im speaking just vauge enough so i wouldnt hear the " oh yeah....but what about..." comments lol.
      As for cutting mom open, it's more peeling back, as you say, but without smashing the fragile eggs, using a scalpel to cut off her carapace side wall is the easiest way to see the clutch of eggs and slide them off each blade of her ova-sheaths.
      Lastly, the filming just sucked im earlier videos before i had stable camera and a gimbal to work with hehe. Now the last 2 years its been smoothing and slower. Cheers
