I love how these artists are a lot less close-minded than their fans.
Well said.
the difference is they're musicians
Well he picked all old albums. I'd be far more surprised if he chose anything from the past decade
fenriz is actually a techno dj...
Boy is that the damn truth .
Necro Butcher has a great taste. Post-Punk, Industrial, Hip-Hop, Alternative, Synthpop, along with Classic Rock. And is in a black metal band. Epic.
hip hop too
@@Arian545 damn straight!!
@@d3athr0ck3r im a black metalhead and I like all generes.
@@srqueteimporta2023 Noone likes all genres, some genres out there are absolute excrement. But a fairly eclectic taste, sure.
Not really
Some people just like music more than genres.
I completely agree.
I think a lot of folk expect the guys from BM bands to be all about nothing but first wave BM and a dash of Death Metal with some Thrash, you know elitist BS. But I found that to be far from true. It's the fans that trap themselves in genres for the most part, that's what kinda turned me away from BM a little. A lot of the guys I used to hang out with were too scared to admit that they bought a Papa Roach album when they were 13, incase Satan arose from Hades and told them that they're not worthy.
Pretty ironic too, since prolly 99% of Mayhem fans (and metal fans in general) are trapped in the metal genre and refuse to open their minds :)
St. Effen: My experience is that people who enjoy Mayhem is diverse in their music-taste.
Niall Cameron I'm in to the gg allin...dark throne...marilyn manson... but when I'm feeling good I listen to some Reggie... mainly by Amy Whitehouse
It's funny though because members took pride in the fact they weren't "posers"
What's in My Bag with Gaahl from Gorgoroth:
"What's in my bag? The little orphan Annie Soundtrack, because..........(sips wine)......Satan."
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahahahahaha.
have you heard trelldom before? check out the first trelldom album to see Gaahl actually doing some good music.
that interview is amazing though. I was thinking maybe he is playing up to the cameras a bit though. ha ha.
@TheBoi353 There was a time where he did very...um..interesting interviews like either barely talking or more or less talking shit about the guy that was interviewing him. But at the same time I have seen interview where he was so honest you could tell from afar (maybe you get what I mean by that). He IS a very mellow guy (well some would say as mellow as a guy from Gorgoroth can be), but there was a time where he preferred to be the tough and menacing guy at every change he got, but the fact that he isn't made it looked od
But thats just my view of things
Hahaha
Or a head
He never would have admitted he liked these bands when he was in his 20's.
Hahaha! So true
@@Easun36 👏👏
@@Easun36 yeah Euronymous was always into tons of crazy stuff. He sought out Conrad Schnitzler for the Deathcrush intro for a reason.
Are you sure?
quick reminder Metallica was one of Dead’s favorite bands
Proof that you can be metal and listen to Depeche Mode at the same time.
Depeche Mode is proto DSBM (Depressive/Suicidal Black Metal)
DM have similar dark vibes so it's not too insane though I know what you mean.
Depeche Mode is great. They themselves tried blending different genres: industrial, blues, gospel, rock and synthpop. And added to it all a touch of melancholy. When I was younger, I would go out, get drunk on some metal concert, and then go home and listen to Depeche Mode before sleep. It was cream on top of the whole insane experience, to me that was like LSD... :)
Proof that you can be metal and play the music kind a "L.E.G.O."
proof that you can listen to all and any genre you like and it doesnt define you less or more bc its just music
Love these metal ones, I feel like they always have the most interesting selections!

AndyQ metal heads tell it like it is. They're down to earth people. That's why they're not acknowledged because they will tell it how it is

It was really special to see how Necrobutcher appreciates Chuck Schuldiner and Death, a lot of the old guys seemed to hate Death's sound
I have a Valvestate head, gotta love Chuck’s sound.
Well, they've covered Evil Dead by them
now imagine him pulling out an album by Death, the punk band from Detroit
@@BloodyBeatsBitch yeah in 2019
i think it all came from Euronymous, as the leader of the circle, and thus his influence got into all of dem. it was just a personal opinion but it kinda spread all over it
I didnt expect him to be such a nice guy with a great music taste
MadeByTwan Metalheads are normal people too
i think he more meant that he's in one of the most notorious bands of all time (dead's suicide, church burnings, varg murdering euronymous) and he's such a mild mannered guy
His former bandmate Euronymous said he listened to music for “Pussies”
Though Euronymous always had his head up his ass with opinions.
Necrobutcher always seemed like the most 'normal' and centered out of the Mayhem guys to me.
He left the band after Euronymous' sick stunt with Dead's body (hence, Varg replaced him) cause he (rightly) thought it to be sick and disrespectful towards his friend's memory. And he has always maintained that Varg is a psycho.
A lot of black/death metallers are really nice people. It's kinda funny in a way.
Dude, Necrobutcher seems like such a cool dude to just sit back and listen to music with. He has such a dynamic taste that isn't limited to just Metal.
Really makes me think I should step out of my comfort zone with my music library, too...

I love this. Totally makes me connect with Necrobutcher so much more, it's amazing how similar his taste in music is to mine. Never would have guessed he'd have Depeche Mode or INXS.
Anybody that doesn't listen to more than one genre, is not a fan of music. There. I said it. I'll listen to everything from Abba to Zappa but I still consider myself a metalhead.
Love everything from Zappa to Taylor Swift but yeah still consider myself a metalhead. I've never understand the close minded attitudes of metalheads. What is the point of denying yourself musical pleasure? If you like something be proud of it.
@@the6ig6adwolf It's a pride thing perpetrated by the elitists within the community. You're a "poser" if you like anything outside of metal, and even then, you're a poser depending on what metal bands you like or dislike. Necro loves Mode !!! That was unexpected. This is interesting cause it shows that not all bands are directly influenced by the music they listen to.
Depeche Mode were depressed and so was Per Ingve 'DEAD' Ohlin
I'd like to see Mayhem cover some songs from these albums now
Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode would be sick \m/
Mayhem covers Beastie boys
I wanna see a Mayhem cover of "Hey Ladies"
@perdix Leviathan covered Depeche Mode's Stripped awhile back, probably the closest you'll get
The new mayhem sounds like a cover band now
Actually a lot of musicans from the 2nd wave of black metal are fans of classics like The Beatles, The Police etc., and Necro is not an exception.
...Meanwhile somewhere in Norway, Dead and Euronymous are rolling in their graves...
Necrobutcher has always seemed live the most levelheaded and open minded member of Mayhem.
Both Mannheim and NecroButcher were the only sane minded people in that band.

I just can't imagine Necrobutcher singing the Beastie Boys haha.
A black metalist enjoying a Talking Heads album, wow. I feel normal now LOL
because black metallers only are allowed to listen to grim and raw black metal... oh!
I don't know why this is such a surprise, he is a person with tastes just like you and me.
You are surprised because you are probably not that well-informed about the black metal scene of the time. It has always been quite well-known that the black metallers of the time had a very widespread love for music, that encompassed almost everything from classic heavy metal and classic rock to 70s electronic music, techno, 80s post punk, and finally to even classical music.
I met this guy at a party called PRSPCT and there is only Breakcore, Drum n Bass & Hardcore! pretty awesome when i saw him there
Very likely black metal for him is just his job now. In his house he just listens to whatever the hell he wants even if it is not "kvlt"
necro has that face that can both make him look like a cool dad, or a grave digger. 💀
I bet a lot of people were expecting him to enumerate tons of black metal bands. But I mean, they were the first wave of black metal, of course they grew up on other things. I also liked how open minded his choices were. As well as his description of Depeche Mode lol. Pure gold.
Loved the part about Chuck.
you cant go wrong with Depeche Mode.
I'm into extreme metal but I LOVE Nina Simone and Sam Cooke they are absolute legends. I think metal heads are the most open minded people

Man, that's wild, i just started listening to black metal and the reason was that never a music genre helped me get through some emotions. I was really confused first, cause actually my music taste was based on talking heads, tears for fears, the doors, etc. Now i can almost see what all these bands have in common. I still don't know but I'll keep looking.

Fear Of Music was always my favorite Talking Heads album after '77
Same. Gonna listen to it now.
I love the bassline in Mind, simple, yet so good.
This is one of these records where every song has something special. It's like a box of Quality Street, but with actually good toffee.
Everyone hating on Deafheaven but Necrobutcher buying the least black metal albums in Amoeba. Now what does that say about the (black) metal community? Fact of the matter is if you limit yourself to one genre of music means your as interesting as multiple sclerosis. Just because you compose a certain type of music doesn't mean you only listen to the genre you make. If Necrobutcher can listen to Talking Heads, I'm sure you don't always have to listen to edgy face paint dudes all day either. I like black metal, traditional or otherwise but the community sucks.
It's say nothing you moron
It says black metallers don't listen to only black metal. Just like any other normal person.
That they take inspiration from everywhere and not their own genre.
I guess you can say I'm a Black Metal guy. I have been listening and writing it for years and I can't stand a very large amount of the fans. They people who get into it because its edgy edgeboi stuff and nothing else.

Excellent picks all round. Can’t beat Paul’s Boutique!
that's all folks That is class man, thanks for sharing!
There are shallow people, and there are intelligent people. Most of the metalheads I know are indeed deeply intelligent, and they appreciate good music no matter what is the genre it belongs to. If that surprises you - go on any metal forum online and start a topic about non-metal influences for these people. You will be surprised how wide is the spectrum of what metalheads are listening to. Let's put it this way: metalheads appreciate good quality music of every genre, but not every fan of other genres is enjoying metal.
I can definitely say I’ve seen some metal call every other genre music “gay”. But they’re just edgelords, best to just ignore them. Just more of them than is comfortable.
Imo in order to be a brilliant musician you must have taste in a wide variety of music
The second he said Bestie Boys I started laughing.
