Umm technically Varg did have a few guys helping him on some songs.
The movie itself has room for improvement, but I really think that Rory and the actor who played dead did a really really good job doing the best with what they had to work with.

I just wish they would’ve at least made all the characters use a Norwegian accent. In the end of this interview, Jonas says there was no room for Burzum music in the film. But i heard they couldn't get the rights from Varg to use the music?

I think varg is kind of wacky, don't dislike him and think he does make some good points ... but I overall don't take him too serious.. however I have massive respect for the musicians that DID NOT allow their music to be used in this stupid movie, that includes Varg for telling them fuck off, good on him. It looks like a pro euronymous movie and so many people that knew him didnt give a rats ass that he got killed, speaks volumes about arseth as a person.
Euronymous was disliked by everybody in the scene and the fact they say him and varg were best friends is hilarious.

@@dennisrheinhard5175 There's an interview in which Necrobutcher said that after discovering that Dead committed suicide, he told Euronymous to fuck off and that thought about killing Euro himself. The truth is that Euronymous was a piece of crap, a lot of people hated him, others barely tollerated his attitude.
The suicide scene was the hardest to watch. He was just so calm which made it seem too real. Made me light headed and that's the only point I had to pause the film. But I loved the film.
I actually stopped watching after this scene.

The movie may not be the most accurate portrayal of what happened but as a stand alone movie it was awesome.

I was not there obviously lol but my two cents are that aarseth was someone who wasn't entirely bad or evil but he definitely was very insecure and pretended to be something he was not, he seemed to me like a kid with some narcissistic tendencies who although had potential to be a good human being considering what the people closest to him say, he was a young edgy insecure teen/young adult who wanted to mean something but thought he will only achieve something by pretending to be something he's not, at least thats how i see it, you cant really rely on what necrobutcher and varg say

This movie should've been made from Necrobutcher account. He was the one who had compassion when Dead died. He was distraught over it. He wouldve done this right.

Varg said in a youtube video, that he didnt say a word to Oysten during the murder. Oysten said to him, "its enough" and Varg said to himself, in his head, "No its not enough". But "Vargs truths" are hard to believe.

You can't really tell a true story about Norwegian Black Metal. Every person involved has shared only opinions and not facts. One thing is certain though. Euronymous was no innocent kid. He had no friends when he died. Because of his toxic personality it got harder and harder for Mayhem to record an album. Varg had taped 5 albums in that time as Burzum.
The movie says in the beginning "based on truth.. and lies." So, they're being honest here.
if the guys playing in the movie did some actual research, or appreciated metal music they would know that
What I liked about it was that all the little things can be debated to death but the script and film follows all the events as you can historicly reserach from newspapers, police and other reliable resources. This film is not a masterpiece but it’s good, and not trying to destort the truth.

"Until the light takes us" documentary/movie and "The death archives" book by Necrobutcher, documents much better the feel of the era, and the Norwegian black metal aesthetics.
black metal is one of my favorite genres of all time. and like EVERYONE else, i hated this movie a lot upon first view. and yes i cringed a lot watching this video. i agree with what the director was saying, a lot of people (including myself) find this story to be a very sensitive subject in which the charecters in the original scene do NOT get the respect they deserve or the light of day on their original story heard. but i realized something the other day, yes these actors clearly don’t rly listen to the genre, but like, it’s a fucking movie. and the guys right, there isn’t a version of the story where the original guys come out as good people. Until the Light Takes Us is the closest we have so far, but it’s really just interviews and not like a telling of the story. so that being said, as a ‘black metal professor’ i wouldn’t like this movie, but if you sit down and watch it as something that ISNT suppost to be a 100% accurate version of the story, it’s actualy a pretty good movie
I liked it as a entertaining movie definitely not as a minute to watch and understand or learn anything about black metal. But if you watch it solely as entertainment it's not bad. Until the light takes us is much better if someone is wanting a good documentary on black metal.
Big black metal fan here as well from Sweden. People think vlck metal is from Norway, its not, first black metal band was bathory which is from Sweden and came way before the Norwegian bands.
I am a black metal fan, but I also think that it sucks as a movie. It’s super boringly made, the Norwegian cold, desolate atmosphere they are talking about does not appear at all and makes it really hard to get behind the sadness and anger they feel and man that trauma/flashback scene is so damn boring looking. Also, as it is a film about a niche music scene, you really don’t get a lot of music.
If it isn't supposed to be a retelling of the events that happened back then, then what is the point of this movie even existing?

I went in skeptical and thinking it was going to be really commercialized. But Akerlund’s attention to the tiny details was impressive. The sets, clothing, Euronymous’s pubestache/midriff, Hellhammer’s exact drum set, casting Atilla’s kid, the guy who played Metallion being a dead ringer. I was prepared to hate it but came away really liking it. And I LOVE how much Kristian Vikernes hates it and is offended by Emory Cohen’s casting.

I watched it yesterday for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had comedic elements, and serious elements, which I feel is reflective of the kids themselves. They took themselves so seriously that it's difficult to actually take them seriously via the hindsight lens. It's only a small step up from the Punk movement in the UK during the late 70's/early 80's.

Can we stop crediting Jonas Åkerlund unreasonably for his extremely short time in Bathory. He was the first member but all he did was a few rough tracks before Bathory really became what it was. He moved away after making a few tracks with Quorthon and another member who also moved away.

I think it's less about them literally being best friends and more about how Varg idolised Euronymous prior to the church burnings and how Varg was hurt by the revelation that Euronymous was ultimately just a poser in it for status, which I think works really well in the movie in terms of the chemistry between the two throughout

This movie, despite the lies that were portrayed, is a good movie. No, the storyline wasn’t accurate at all other than the major events such as Pelle’s death, the church burnings and Euronymous’ death. But production wise and studio wise, it’s a good movie. The storyline portrayal just overthrows what happens in the movie. He also did say that they shot the movie in 18 days, it was incredibly rushed. If they researched thoroughly and maybe even gotten in contact with Necrobutcher or someone that was there (and gotten someone different to play Varg), it would’ve been an amazing movie and wouldn’t have gotten shit on as much.

Despite all the reviews, I went into this movie with an open mind, hoping it would give me something of a positive experience of some kind, and now, as I have just watched it, I felt an urge to write a little review myself. This whole movie is just meant to put Varg in a bad light, and represents Euronymous like some innocent young boy an a rebel phase. The ending scene (the murder) was just very poorly written, and badly acted. The movie, Lord Of Chaos is in general a very bad representation of black metal, and seems more like a parody, rather than a serious movie. The only way I can describe it is that it's like an episode by the RUclips channel Overly Sarcastic Productions that just had a very large budget, but not large enough to make it entertaining. I have to think really hard to find something positive to say about this movie, but sadly I have found none. I really wanted this movie to be somewhat great, but as the credits starts rolling I realize I just have to count my losses and move on. Oh well, at least they gave the fictional fat-vegan-contradiction-Varg a huge cock, that's gotta count for something, right? Score: 2/10 burning churches.

I'm happy that if anyone was gonna touch this topic, it was Jonas, the guy has a fantastic eye for detail and picking out some amazing actors.
I think Rory did an exceptional job, whether or not the portrayal was true to reality or not/separate from that issue he was captivating.
Emory as well - does he look like Varg? Not one bit, but small details like when he picks up Euro by the chin when killing him, smiles at him and purses his lips in enjoyment... That sort of stuff really struck me.
All in all I can't say I didn't like the film, hell I watched it multiple times in a weekend. And it's made me watch a hell of a lot more documentaries about black metal.

The best parts of the interview is Rory and Emory joking with each and making banter, and Jonas being informational with his work. This guy obviously is just regurgitating what he watched.

I really wish this had just been sold as an entirely fictional film about a fictional band, because I LOVED this movie and this interview. But I almost feel like I can't say I love it without mocking what actually happened. 😭 I will say Jonas took himself way too seriously in this tho.
The movie was fun to watch but completely inaccurate. If you want to watch a good movie that's actually accurate watch Until The Light Takes Us

Yeah but I can hear a slight accent to where one could assume he's from Norway. Whereas I felt the actors in the movie sounded like they were living here in the U.S. in the mid west. I watched the movie and I loved it and honestly the accents or no accents had no bearing on the movie at all. Well done!

ooo wo The album covers with “dead’s” suicide photo was actually bootleg releases. Euronymous took the pictures, but the band actually insisted on burning the photos but the photos were kept and sadly someone got a hold of them. Mayhem had nothing to do with the out bring of it. Look at the interviews of where Necrobutcher was genuinely upset over the photos and death of Dead.

6:00, Jonas actually says it all right there. No one owns the past and honestly, he did a great job at giving Black Metal the true, real go round. The actors were great. Either way, if it was all fiction or not, "Lords of Chaos" is a great fucking film. Varg is off his rocker, meanwhile, Mayhem is still making good music with 2 of the 4 original members.

@@Amp661 Hellhammer is still in the band. While he's not their original drummer, he's been in the band since 1987.
@@TranzparentMethods they need to talk to Manheim who knew Euronymous BEFORE mayhem even existed. Hellhammer kept the band going, but he's not an original member.
