I read that Jack talked with Dead’s brother before the role, so you can tell he wanted to honor his legacy, art, and memory instead of bashing him.
This interviewer reminds me of Orson Welles doing the wine commercial. Waiting for him to jolt awake and scream out "AAAAAHHHHH! The French. Champagne."
