So disgusted by people’s comments and judgements.
You have NO context of this dude’s work company, his fellow workers, his boss, or his position and time at the company.
He could have told his boss “hey man, I’m doing a little RUclips video today, that okay by you?”. If he’s been working there for a couple years, that’s a pretty chill request.
So at 4:20, when everyone is eating their frosties, they get shit too?
Last time I checked, buddies giving you shit at a job site is probably the most normal thing to happen. You wouldn’t know that, because you don’t actually working on a fucking job site.
He even says in the video “wow, this day is all sorts of things.” Meaning, even he’s surprised he’s driving around so much.
But nah, keep judging from your cubicles 👍🏻.

There are days like this, and then there are those days (in them majority), when u work your @ss off.
' Guess this was one of those days, when the schedule, or the circumstances weren't THAT strict.
Every now and then, we ( people, working on construction sites) have days like that.
It's just how this industry works.
Nice comment ; had to reply.
' Tis good to see a non - hater, expressing concern.

I worked roofing as well for about a year & a half before I left for a better opportunity somewhere else. Not shingle roofs but metal commercial roofs, repairing rusty panels that cause leaks of all kinds, applying certain chemicals to preserve it for 10+ or so years. It was a bitch at first especially after not having worked for about 6 months, first day was 110 degrees with only 2 5 minutes breaks to get off the roof & chill but a good 1 hour lunch. Once I got used to it it was nothing but good times with good people working under the same heat I was. Those were my brothers on & off the roof, looked out for one another but it was the management that made me say "fuck this" & I moved onto something better. Salute to all the real homies that thug it out under the sun.. black, white, Asian or raza, tienen mi respeto. 🤝💯

I just started construction approx. 5 months ago. I have never done construction before, and most of the time is spent sweeping the floors, keeping the job site clean, and basically finding stuff to be active with. I usually wake up at 6, leave by 6:35, and get to the job site by 7. The company I work for is brand new, approx. 2 years old, run by 2 brothers who have 40+ years combined between them. I learn a lot, and tbh there are days when the task they have me do extends through the whole week. There are some days when I have just enough work for 1 day. When it rains, there's barely any work because the mud becomes a safety hazard. Hell, there are days where I get sent home early because everyone else has their responsibilities and I've finished mine (whether it be sweeping floors or doing tasks like installing door knobs, base molding, driving from one job site to the next, etc) and am now waiting on them for an opportunity to arise. What I'm saying, is we've seen him work 1 day, but how about we also entertain the fact that the 1 day he recorded, isn't everyday, but perhaps the 1 rare day in the week where there is barely anything to do? Construction isn't at all like I thought it was, at least on film. Its hard work, and living next to a lake makes it unbearably humid, but the people are friendly, the supervisors give you shit, but in a friendly way, and you learn valuable skills that you can use wherever you go or wherever you live. Soon, I'll be tasked with doing more important things, but as far as I know, the construction you saw in this video is the rarest day you can ever get.

    • @TylerSchwab
      @TylerSchwab  5 лет назад +2

Rare is right, and on one of these rare works days I took the opportunity to make a video about it. Maybe the title lead to a lot of people being mislead to what they were actually going to watch, but regardless construction is tough. How are you handling it? What type of work do you do? It sounds like carpentry maybe?

@@TylerSchwab I'm actually a general laborer, doing the odds and ends my contracting company doesn't see the need to pay for like sweeping floors, picking up garbage, and building miscellaneous items inside the buildings. Love the comments below, i don't necessarily get involved with the politics of people, I attended My civil construction course and now actively seeking a job for it, but damn its hard the course only went for 5 weeks and only had 2 weeks of skid steer/roller operations while the rest was theory plus 2 days of traffic control. and in those 2 weeks it was limited use for the bobcats because there was 17-20 people with only 3 old bobcats with a 15 minute rotation. I picked up the skill real quick because i play a lot of pc games for eye-hand coordination.
But having only 2 hours on the bobcat and an hour on the roller just doesn't fit the criteria when employers are looking for minimum 2 years experience so its kinda fucked for new people trying to get in.
I was aiming the John Holland company thats developing the underground metro tunnels in Melbourne but they require people with experience in some sort of construction industry.
But i'll figure it out. hopefully

I've been in this environment and I would be pissed watching this kid filming a selfie video while I'm digging a hole. any young people watching this who want to get into construction prepare to be surprised.

Nice! Pretty accurate depiction of what working underground utilities is like. Everyone who's hating on this video don't really understand this type of construction. You end up doing a lot of running around, getting things organized, picking up fuel, loading/unloading tools and materials, waiting on machines to dig, waiting on machines to backfill, etc... The only people on a job like this that don't ever (hardly) stop are the hoe operators. I've been on jobs where we had 2 hours between cuts - literally "work" for 1 hour every day, rest is waiting.

They sent me to apprentice for this one shop once. The guy tells me my job is to help the electricians keep the floor clean. Apparently they were laying off the laborers. So one laborer throws his hard hat two inches from my head and threatens to kill me if I touch a broom. I was an apprentice learning the rules so I just didn't touch the broom. When the owner asked why I didn't clean the floor I told him a laborer threatened to kill me. They layed him them off and tried to get me and the other apprentice to clean things up. A wireman who just transferred over told us we are not helpers we are electrical apprentices and that other job was for the laborers. So we didn't clean up we installed electrical work until we suddenly got laid off. I remember them accusing us of some awful stuff just because I showed up on time to learn how to do my job. Laborers get it tough.

Just remember this, don't quit, where I am at kids younger than you are taken out of school just to work in low skilled jobs, they work non stop, often their job sites don't have machinery, those big trucks you have over their imagine doing that with handtools.
