out of curiosity, why is jp fastest in crash 1? i always wouldve thought stuff llike the added hints and papu papu would slow things down some

Funny thing is that you were correct to assume the stuff that would slow JP down. There’s a reason US is still faster for Any%.
But boy does only having to do Road to Nowhere once save a lot of time.

are bonuses not required to get the gems in crash 1?

In the original game no. The only thing you need from the bonuses are the keys in the Cortex rounds.
In the N. Sane Trilogy they work like later bonuses though, and are needed for Gems.
