Hi Bill The tip of this rod is designed to detect strikes, yes, if you maintain contact with you nymphs. Regarding if a 2wt would be better or not, it all depends on where and how you fish. Better for what?
@@intoflyfishing I have the Epiphany 10'4 " 2wt and the Vesper 10'6" 3wt. I love them both but they are different weights so a comparison is not really appropriate.
a better review, you covered all of it. $, sourced mat'l's, performance comparison, price point comparison, fishing slot distance details, who's it for, and that higher price rods >$800, the tips will not bounce and distance and accuracy will improve.
Euro nymphing is not a 60-80 ft style of fishing. Euro nymphing is best when you are in contact with the flies 20-35ft at the most. You will catch most of the fish with a euro setup with the rod about 60 degrees off the water and line out the end of the rod with little to no slack in the line. if you cannot feel the bottom occasionally you are not likely fishing where the fish live most of the time. The Epiphany is a very solid rod. I 100% agree that you have to spend time with the rod to learn how it casts. Every rod, like every car or bike drives and rides a little different. If you are casting 60' with a euro setup you are missing the point entirely. If you want to cast 60-80 ft throw a dry or a streamer. It's near impossible to set a hook on a fish at 60 plus feet that hasn't swallowed the hook and set it self for you. I own a 10'6 3wt Epiphany and it's a rock solid rod. It's affordable, and it's probably the best rod in the price range. Compared to some of the thousand dollar rods I have fished the Epiphany preforms as good if not better. I do appreciate the video, the advice, opinions, and honesty of the review. Tight lines fellow fly fishers, hope to see you out there.
Terrific review Pierre, on a rod I am partly interested in. I was surprised about your mention (@3:38) that you used a 5/6 size fly reel with a 3 weight line because it better balances the rod !! Is this a flaw in the Epiphany design ? If I had blindly purchased a 3/4 size reel for this rod how would the "unbalanced" combination feel or behave ? Thank you, I hope you see my comment and question.
60 feet is not totally out of the realm of casting distances for euro nymphing. Some setups do it better than others. As he mentioned in the video, it's at the edge of what you'd want to cast anyway and isn't a common situation.
I got this rod and its not a great nymphing rod. You are obviously biased by some other factors and or connections. The rod is a poor performing rod. The looks are nice for the price but when you get to the water you will notice you don’t have the proper performance to cast, mend. The micro leaders and fly lines don’t flow through the guides. You end up catching 1/10 of the fish you would catch with a decent design and materials rod. I bought this and the drifter based on your wonderful reviews only to realize that the product is of poor quality. Can use it yes. Does it deserve time on the water? Not for me. I called their tech support - all they said sorry this rod is not for you. Their titanium guides is alll marketing. Move on. And Pierre , you lost credibility. I know you have to pay the bills but people will figure it out.
What weight did you get? Pierre likes this rod, is not bias in that he doesn't own this channel and as I'm the owner, I've told him there is no difference whether we get gear for review or buy it, he can trash it or praise it as he likes. This review is as unbiased as it gets as he has no benefit here.
@@intoflyfishing 3wt 10-6. Doesn’t matter….the rod is beautiful but they missed on key functional design aspects. It is not a rod I would ever recommend. Not even if they half the price. Which they did by the way on amazon….don’t waste your money on marketing hype
Why rod companies arent making cases that fit the reel like TFO yet is beyond me. Thanks for the review!
Great presentation and accompanying b-roll.
Thanks for watching!
Good pros and cons . Can you feel the strike? Would a 2wt be better?

I would like to see a review comparing this to their premium nymphing rod, the Vesper 10'6" 3wt.
Review of the Vesper 10’6” is coming on the channel. A comparison review may not be a bad idea.

@@docjoe1 No we'd do a comparison of same weights. We have all the weights in these rods on hand I believe.
@@intoflyfishing I'll keep an eye out for it!
The tip end on this rod is very heavy and mine broke off clean about a foot down when fighting a trout good thing it came with an extra end
Would an Orvis Recon 10' 3wt shoot farther?
if they built the rod with TIC snake guides and a 10 and 12 stripper The casting will shoot at least 45 to 50 plus feet

Great video. I am curious how this compares to ShadowX .
I unfortunately don't have the Shadow X. I can do a comparison of the 2wt Epiphany to the 2wt Shadow II
I own em both and the Epiphany is NO where near as good as the Shadow X

The heavier reel better balances the added rod length. Simple physics.
Thanks
You’re welcome!
I think the blanks come from South Korea like TFO.
Is this rod heavy compared to other 3 or 4 wts ?
I had one and sold it the tip end was very heavy
How long is the rod tube that comes in. Exact length please? For that exact rod 10'6 3 wt
Hi chris, I'll measure it tomorrow and get back to you!
The guy was trying to cast a euro Rod 60 feet?? Couldn’t do it well, eh? Wtf lol

let alone using a moonshine rod XD what a joke
lesson one in building Never mix snake with singe foot guides haaa
