New tires, getting the AC fixed, water pump, steering box couple belts hoses and fluids later and I'm into it for about $2700. I'm used to this. I bought a very cheap, low miles 95 Lebaron for $250, and all the repairs brought the cost up to $1200. It was worth it. It's a really solid car that I can drive until the transmission falls out in like 50-75k miles.

      @CR7659 2 года назад +2

      I got lucky I guess, I bought a low miles 94 Chevy van in February and all I did was change the oil and put new tires on it. I did swap seats in from a conversion in the junkyard that had almost 300K showing, so I imagine it will last a long time, 4L60E or not.

    Thanks for the terrific content Jared! While you covered the parts, most of the cost is in the skilled labor that goes into making those parts work correctly. That's priceless really. But given what was needed, you're probably looking at another $2500 to $3000 in labor. (Even more since you don't have a lift), it's not worth the effort unless you really need this kind of vehicle. But I really appreciate watching someone who knows what to do under the car hood...

    • @conanwhalen-mckain7581
      @conanwhalen-mckain7581 2 года назад +2

      I agree. Jared did not price in the days of effort and labor that he put in. Without the RUclips Audience this would not have been a viable project. The average hourly rate for a mechanic is 20 dollars an hour. He spent a minimum of at least 60 hours working on the car. That would be at least 1200 dollars of labor.

      Pulling a transmission with only jack stands seems like a huge pain in the ass, but the other stuff is doable if you have tools and ability to google/youtube. Buying a truck like this (as in cheap, not expecting free) can be scary, but man would I 100% prefer this sorted $6K truck than a $6K marketplace truck.
      Literally finding this out via first hand experience. I've got to pay the asking price + all kinds of parts to get it sorted out.
      But now I'm hesitant to sell it because I know what's been taken care of and it will hopefully be good for a while!

    That Tahoe was definitely supposed to go to the junkyard with all those problems. Thanks for making this video to clarify the financial side of it that many people always seem to just gloss over like it's not worth mentioning. We have all gotten into projects like this where had we known what was involved before we started, would have chosen differently. I buy, fix, and flip motorcycles and I end up parting out a lot of them because the numbers just favor that a lot of the time.

Since the guy has multiple trucks, ( the rest of which are 2500s) he has no reason to keep it and due to a water leak on the bottom left of the dashboard and the fact that the truck needed a new water pump, he sold it to me. So far all I’ve done to it is a new water pump and I put some grease in the U joints. Other then that It’s been great. Hey, great channel! A couple of comments. I would move off to the side maintenance items, like oil, spark plugs, etc. You have to do those on any car you ever have. So (to me) they are not part of the cost to bring back the car. The other is you don't figure in the cost of your time, ie, hours of labor. I guess we are going to assume we do it for the love of it. ;-) Another thing is sometimes we have to send out for some jobs to be done, example rebuild a tranny for those of us less tranny savvy.. Please stay with cheap every day fixer uppers and stay away from lambos etc..

    It's now got 554k km (~344k miles) and still good on that original transmission. With all the money I put in, I could hardly get a similar one and it would need timing belt (thats when all those cars get sold as it is costly). No, considering the 4L60e is actually a modified 700r4, Its likely incalculable the amount of 4l60/4l70/4l75/700r4s that are out there. Without the statistics, its impossible to determine if the transmission is actually below or above expected failure rate. One thing is for sure, it is significantly more numerous that any other transmission you will find.

    Watching someone sit and talk is usually boring, but adding the tribles was a nice touch and a good way to keep people's attention

    I see you are having some trouble with Tribbles! 4L60Es can be solid if you upgrade the internals. Great cost analysis. Nothing is free, ever!

    My 2 wheel drive 97 Surburban has been acting up for several years .. I did a fluid filter change "old filter seal sucked to remove" using high mileage fluid ... That helped , used Lucas additives .. Now on to shudder fix .. It's holding for moment , but gonna have to tear we down 1 day .. 4l60 e swap to 4L80 e is prolly gonna be my fix if I find 1 cheap , tho .

    I bought a 2001 GMC Yukon 2500 XL from my brother-in-law for $1000 and I got a 07 equinox thrown in. Sold the Equinox with bad head gaskets for $800 so paid $200 for my Yukon. She's a rusty girl with a lot of daddy problems and already put $600 into just the rear brakes and I need to find someone to weld the rear top shock mount because it's rusted and busted so there is no passenger rear shock and now I have the top of the gas tank leaking, I think and I need new tires plus I think I might have a rear brake caliper hanging up every so often. Bought so we didn't have to drive a decent work vehicle to one of our commercial cleaning jobs that's at a cement factory.

    My cousin gave me his old car said it only needs minor work to be road ready to my surprise i had to replace the clutch, radiator, brakes, alternator, water pump plus etc
    Til this day 15 years later he still reminds me of the free car he gave me. The car was worth about $750.00 if it ran but it cost me $2,000.00 to repair. 😭

    Jared… any chance a blue Porsche Turbo might just move to site B? A technique my friends used to use about cassette tapes was the concept of “Mine Now”. A kind of friendly theft🤣.. Just put the Porsche on a trailer and send Freddie a picture labeled “Mine Now”.

    Funny how many Tuber's are selling cars now, but how many were actually window dressing or yard Art. Some are just painted junk or hidden issues . But Jarad fixed all his car issues, which speaks well for him
