Modern Mirror is a GROWER. It’s their best, but it took me 8 listens to get there. It’s their most cohesive album, and it’s very emotional and intimate, it’s my favorite album of the year.

There is no debate needed, Drab Majesty are the best sounding band to come out of the rest of the shit they call music today.

MM is my favorite album by DM. Very Lush.. I like lush. To me the album has a atmospheric mood to it and that’s what I want from them. Long Division is my favorite song. I’ve loved this band since Maus first played them on communion after dark.

While I think their videos being integral to appreciating their music is very true to their 80's aesthetic, I heard 39 by Design and instantly fell in love.

Just came across this review while looking up all things related to Drab Majesty. I came into contact with this band several years ago on a RUclips channel about earthquakes of all things! Long story. Anyway, I found the glorious masterpiece that is the demonstration, and I’ve been a fan ever cents! Deb Demure’s voice is absolutely captivating, and he knows exactly what to do with that guitar of his! I will be experiencing a dream come true, because I’m going to see them when they come to Cleveland this November! From a visually impaired person‘s perspective, I’ve never heard anything so audibly pleasing as this band! You talked a lot about their music videos in this review, and for someone in my position, I really could care less about the visual stuff. There is a feeling with this band that I can’t describe. Lots of positive and loving energy from a being that I don’t know, but I feel like I do. I’ve read a lot of interviews with Andrew/Deb, and we have a lot in common. Thank you for the honest review!

Modern Mirror is a conceptual album based upon a modern tale of Odin's Narcissus. So, yes, it is like a one song album and would make a great movie.
I feel that the looks and music will change with the subject matter of the albums to come, as Deb has stated time and again that he is but a vessel for something bigger than himself.
-Dolls in the dark - very relative to online dating.
-Oxytocin is the neurotransmitter that creates feelings of love.
As for Deb and Mona, I feel That Deb has been very generous and supportive toward Mona; only wanting Mona to reach his fullest potential. Deb seems to encourage and help other artists to be the best that they can.
Except for Elon Musk... I mean Noel Skum.
Modern Mirror = Death of Ego 🖤

Music Video album sounds fantastic. Since Drab’s music videos are surreal, otherworldly, it will be phenomenal.

Great video. Good to see different perspectives on Drab’s work. As much as I adore Drab Majesty, Modern Mirror falls short. At least when compared to their last two LPs. I gotta put Carless at #1, The Demonstration closely behind at #2 and Unarian Dances at #3. MM is by no means a terrible album but it doesn’t feel very polished and ultimately not the sound that made me fall in love with them. I appreciate change but this time around, it wasn’t a good change. The mixing isn’t very good and while I like Mona D’s vocals, it doesn’t suit Drab. Especially live.
Hopefully their next material returns to older Drab. I must say I do enjoy a few songs off MM, however, I can see why someone would easily skip over it.
And once again, great video! Cheers.

Completely Careless 🖤🖤 You can’t really pinpoint the genre what makes them so unique.

I've heard about this channel for a few weeks now (from Cadaver Kelly and a couple of other channels), and I finally got to check it out and I just have to say -- wow. I've really been missing out! This was an excellent discussion. I had no idea it was such a polarizing release. I honestly thought I was alone in my general displeasure with the sound of Modern Mirror in comparison to their other two releases, but now I know I wasn't the only one who thought it was quite different. It's not that it was a bad album or anything, but it definitely feels like they've moved toward a more mainstream and upbeat sound than in the past. The Demonstration remains my favourite thing they've done.

Great video! I'd love to see more videos like this discussing entire band discographies.
For me personally, I didn't really like Modern Mirror that much, the songs are alright (I really liked A Dialogue and Out of Sequence) but just felt lacking overall. If I had to pick a ranking leaat favorite to favorite, it'd be: Modern Mirror, Human Traffic Jam, Horseplay, Demonstration and Careless.
With Drab Majesty, the songs are either really good or servicable at worst. With VR SEX, their songs are either amazing or awful, but I listen to their amazing tracks more than Drab Majesty's best ones.
Of course, Drab Majesty and the rest of the DMCU will always be special to me since they were the band that got me hooked onto all things goth a few years back.

Great discussion 😍 I thought deb was in a sex shoppe on the cover picture though, which follows the theme of shallow and dissociative relationships in the albums theme. Love you both 😘

Modern Mirror was sooo disappointing ugh! It has a couple good tracks but VR Sex was better... I'm going to listen to it a few more times to really cement my opinion but yeah... Not a fan of MM so far (...but still excited to hear what they come up with next lol)
