Phenomenal video! I just returned to Toronto after living in Barcelona for 6 months. It took me quite a bit of research & time to learn about the deep history of the gothic quarters so I’m very glad you compiled everything into this video! You’re giving me me intense flashbacks to the gorgeous city ! 😢😢😢😢
In the past 18 months I’ve been 3 times, 1 week each time, to Barcelona. Many things you show I haven’t either seen fully or I haven’t seen at all. I’m certainly watching this video again and making notes. Much appreciated James.
In minute 10:32, when you were explaining the Call Jueu, you missed a quite interesting legend that is said to have happened in that exact place you were standing. This street is called 'Baixada de Santa Eulalia', which means the descent or the slope of Saint Eulàlia. Eulàlia was a Christian 13-year-old girl that was prosecuted for being Christian during the Roman Empire. She refused to convert and she was condemned to 13 tortures. One of those tortures was that she was put in a barrel full of shards of glass and then the barrel was dropped downhill. Finally, she was crucified and decapitated. The legend says this street was the one where Eulalia was tortured, hence the name 'Descent' or 'Slope' of Saint Eulalia. In the wall, you can see there is a little image and poem in honor of her. Saint Eulalia is the co-patron saint of Barcelona, together with La Mercè. Btw, this video was very well done. Everything was very well explained and I was impressed by how good you explained the different flags and symbols.
And that is why on the days we celebrate La Merce, it use to rain. The legend says those are the tears of Sta. Eulalia because the people have forgotten her.
Just a correction: el Palau de la Generalitat is not Catalunya's parliament, is the seat of the government of Catalunya. The Parliament is in Parc de la Ciutadella! However fantastic video!
We have watched your videos for months! We randomly came across them one night and you guys inspired us to change our vacation to Spain. We absolutely fell in love with Madrid! You guys gave us some Great tips and we felt like We conquered Madrid like a local. We are currently in Barcelona, so I’m rewatching videos to see where to go! It honestly seems more touristy and intimidating than Madrid which is surprising. Thank you for your videos!!!
We spent most of the day in the Gothic Quarter. It was wild. There were two different festivals going through the quarter at the same time. There were also street performers, so it was packed, loud, and fun. Every restaurant was packed, so we walked over to Hoffman’s and had some of the most amazing pastries I have ever had in my life. Great videos. We have been watching your videos for weeks in anticipation of our trip to Madrid and Barcelona. Keep up the great work! Gracias. Thank you.
Mr. Blick, you're doing a wonderful job here. Mark Twain stated that twenty years from now you'll regret the things you didn't to as opposed to the think you did do. So badly, I just want to settle in where I am now but your videos demonstrate that the wonders of Europe are worth seeing. Now I'm always perturbed because I want to just lazily settle here when I know that I should retire to Spain and see the sights. Keep selling me on coming to Spain.

I am so happy that Spain preserved their history instead of destroying it. They embraced the architecture of other occupants as it is apparent in all of Spain. I love love it.

Bar Del Pi opens around 12pm and has quite limited seating but the Patatas Bravas, meat balls and La Bomba Del Pi are to die for. The food is really, really delicious. Really worth a very short detour off La Ramblas for the food. Seriously avoid the ice-cream shop next to it. Very miserable and rude staff...
I love the Gothic Area! My brother and I stayed there near the Parliament area because it was by far the quietest place we found. We also watched a people doing the Sardannas one night.
As a Catalan I have to say I enjoyed watching your Gotic's quarter walk, the history explanations you gave and the neutral explanation of the political symbolism.
I was just in Barcelona in May and used Rick Steves audio walking tour of the Gothic District. It was about a 90 minute walk with a lot of great historical background on landmarks throughout the area. This video is a great highlight of a handful of sights. We definitely tried many of the great tapas you recommended in Barcelona. Definitely recommend reservations if going on your own.
I was this year in October in Barcelona and also at the Gothic Quarter, a wonderful place to go. Barcelona was so beautiful for me to visit ans this trip is for me naturally unforgetable. One of my best trip in Europe.

I visit the city often so I know the area but I thought if it would have beeen better to include a major well know area of town to use as a point of reference as to where the Gothic Quarter is located in addition to the area map. We just went on this tour with you guys the other night. Fabulous experience! We were introduced to vermouth on this tour. Yowza, it's yummy! Thanks for putting this tour together. We learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was also the start of Le Merce, so there was a ton of activity in the streets that night. So awesome!
Another great video. Very informative and entertaining at the same time. Loved it when I visited last year. And the meaning behind some of the flags was very interesting. If memory serves me right, I believe I noticed about five different flags being flown on people's balconies.
This video was amazing guys! I might have a soft spot for BCN since it is my second home (I actually live 20 min from the city), but I enjoy this type of videos. I am definetely contemplating doing a Devour tour now!
