I actually remember reading this as a kid. I can’t believe I remember all the details. I always knew it would come back full circle. It was a very important time in comics for me. Wolverine starting going feral little by little in the issues that followed. I got older and eventually stopped following it.

Remember that at the time of the 1992 Animated Series NO ONE knew that Wolverine's claws were actually organic, it was just assumed to be part of the process when they bonded his skeleton with adamantium.
Throughout the entire Animated Series that was the logic we were all working on, which is why even Logan seemed surprised that his hands itched and then claws came out.
Also in the Animated Series AND the comics, Wolverine had a healing factor BUT it was not as OP as it has been in recent years and the movies. When he tussled with Sabertooth in one of the first eps, he was laid up in bed for a little while ... these days he would have insta-healed and been ready for action right away.
It was only after Magneto had removed his adamantium that we found out he had bone claws, and that was part of his mutation, and then his healing factor seemed to jump to OP permanently, even after he was rebonded with adamantium.
Heck, at the time of the Animated Series AND concurrent Marvel Cards, Wolverine was only known as "Logan", and there was speculation that Sabertooth was his father, potentially giving him the last name "Creed". Even Magneto at the time was known as "Eric Magnus", his last name change and Holocaust survivor background wasn't added until years later with the first movie.
I guess, just keep in mind, these are all works-in-progress and they are constantly evolving and being retconned with the times.
Great presentation, btw, you really helped fill in some gaps for me!

Well the original cartoon did a pretty terrible job depicting his healing factor as it was in the comics from roughly the mid-80's on.
In the very beginning Wolvie didn't even really have a healing factor, he was just known to be strong, tough and hardy. They hadn't even decided if his claws were part of him or his gloves (that wasn't decided until Jean, Banshee and he were prisoners on Lang's space station at the beginning of the Phoenix saga).
It's only in the Savage Land during the Phoenix saga that they began to put the idea he might heal faster than others, and it isn't until Days of Future Past in the early 80's they finally decided on his healing power and reveal it. This is the reason he appears older in the future scenes in that two parter, because having just decided on that power they hadn't got the idea yet that he aged slowly or not at all, because at the time of this story Clermont and Bryne viewed that he was only as old as he looked, though that would quickly change as they figured out his power set.
As for how the healing factor worked was variable, though pretty much always better than the cartoon showed. A stab to his heart in the early 80's took him a while to get over.
But soon after he was getting ripped up by Sabertooth and dealing with it just fine, getting blasted through his chest by Havok's overloaded plasma beam (after Havok's power was sent haywire by the Marauder Scrambler, Uncanny X-Men 221) and got right back up a minute or so later, and perfectly fine not long after when his own power was scrambled. Latter he would be cut apart by massive number of lasers (Forge's defense system) and be back up relatively soon to lead the X-Men again as they went to face the Advesery (leading to the X-Men's apparent death and the Australian Outback period).
In Wolverine #1, Vol. 1 (1989 I think) during an opening fight with pirates, one shots of full 40 rounds with his machine gun, most hitting Wolvie direct in his chest, Logan's keeps on fighting taking numerous other injuries and is healed by the end (much of these early Wolverine stories had a very effective healing factor, in which he could tank bullets and recover quickly).
To bring it to the period of the cartoon, in Wolverine #39, Vol. 1, we see Wolverine recover from severe burning, his face healing completely and hair restored in around 30 to 40 seconds if you time the time it takes Logan to speak his lines in those three comic panels.
So though it is difficult to be precise at how fast Wolvie's healing factor was, it's was massively more effective long before and during the time of the 90's cartoon then the cartoon ever showed.
I remember the child me seeing that scene were a simple slash by Sabertooth takes Wolvie out and has him in bed recovering and saying then what bullshit it was.
But then, none of the cartoons ever got his healing factor right (only the animes and Hulk Vs Wolverine). But that's not just confined to Wolvie, but many X-Men in terms of their powers.

    • @mrmacross
      @mrmacross 26 дней назад +2

I think the word we're looking for here is "retcon."
EDIT: Magneto's backstory as a Holocaust survivor came way before the movie. I remember back in summer camp in 1994 when someone explained that part of the character to me. Anyway, Wikipedia's Magneto entry indicates he was a Holocaust survivor ever since 1981. The cartoon vaguely references his Holocaust experience; Xavier stopped Magneto by psychically tapping into his childhood trauma. The writers and animators, of course, tried not to make any direct mentions, but if you knew his comic history then you knew what was up.

The reason why did Wolverine character had to die in the first place all because of Yoshida saves Wolverine from his grief of his past helping them move forward a wolverine. To stop hogging all the blame for you why he lost all the hope he had left. In the guilt on his own soldiers Wolverine had to carry that heavy burden for a long time Wolverine died in the Japan series after the Silver Samurai almost killed him instead that made him to move on and have a good heart emit inside of Wolverine which means what that him become a good man and as a leader that is the true story about Wolverine about him to move on and forget about the past anything I had done Wolverine decides to forget everything like the loss of Charles Xavier in his friends he could not save from the tragic fate in the same way with the dark Phoenix.
It's sad what move why Wolverine failed to save his best friends. He ever cared about his family. But he instead to believe in good but still a X-Men leader. However I think him becoming more beast/animal like, because he lost his adamantium was pretty lame and really he should have got his adamantium back in issue 100. Seeing as Apocalypse would give it back to him anyways many issues later. Just seemed like they dragged this out too long and they really did not have a plan/idea how to resolve this in a interesting way.

Seeing the shortened "cliff-notes" version of the way in which they adapted the Madeline Pryor/Goblin Queen storyline, I doubt that _X-Men: 97_ will adapt this complete Wolverine story... considering how convoluted it is. And with how popular he is, I can't see Disney going the Storm route, either. (i.e. having him disappear for several episodes and then pop back up later on). I really love _X-Men: 97,_ but sometimes I really dislike how fast paced they are making everything. It's like they are in a race or something to complete EVERY. LAST. ARC in the comic.
For instance, I feel like _some_ of the stories should have been resolved NEXT season, rather than 3 episodes later.

Wolverine's claws were never apart of his mutant powers. They were added with his metal skeleton. So, if Mags took the metal off his bones, the would have come too (or they would have stayed as they were kinda separate from the skeleton). But the writers of this series didn't know that, or didn't care and they gave him bone claws. The dumbest thing I've seen in comics for a while.

@@TheJusDon that's like not showing the crucial part of fatal attractions in the comics and just showing the aftermath and saying it's Magneto, what did you expect? Would be nice to see it explained.

@@TheJusDon yes, he has a lot of power but the details in fatal attractions are what sets it apart. It's very interesting how it explains that Magneto destabilises the adamantium on a molecular level, essentially liquefying it and ripping it out through his skin.
The only mystery for me is what happened to the adamantium once it had been removed.
