As a 40 year federal employee, I’m disgusted but not surprised. Most of my life has been dedicated to civil service only to be treated as trash. Retirement is now in my immediate future as opposed to holding on for 2 more years. Civil servants are hard working people who are working to provide for their families and support the country, not the guy in the White House. That was not in my oath when I was hired.

George, I worked for the VA and DFAS in the Federal Government. At first I thought learn the rules (regulations and laws) to perform my role effectively and efficiently. I came to realize that some Federal Government based on laws , regulations, policies, and procedures were put in place 20 to 30 years before my federal service. Changing the organization and the governing policies and procedures while ensuring governmental services continuity would take years not weeks. I am sorry to say that we are in for a rough 4 years.

Yes, DEI is also about the neurodivergent, disabled, and anyone who doesn't fit into standard physical, mental, or emotional parameters. Not everyone can do every job, but everyone deserves an opportunity if they CAN do the job.
I think that people don't understand that they are not going out and hiring incompetent people just so they meet someone who falls under DEI. A lot of times, they are just going places to recruit people who fall into those categories. And, people who fall into those categories are given consideration that they might not otherwise get. Personally, I don't believe that a perfect person exists for any job--we all have our strengths and weaknesses in any position. And I certainly don't believe that anyone falling into those categories will automatically do a worse job than a white male. Besides, trump is certainly not hiring the best people, even amongst white males.

This is the big misunderstanding with the electorate, a vast proportion of which believes running a country is like running a business. It is not. A business runs to make a profit and a country is run for the well being of it's citizens. From the president on down governments are employers of public servants.
THAT is why they want people to resign, if they do the person can't file Unemployment or some file some labor law lawsuit. Some private companies will do this to/for older employees close to retirement, "We will pay you one year pay as severance if you resign today", EVERY ONE of these need to be viewed case by case.
@outlawJosieFox Retired Federal employee here, yes, you can, if the Government gives permission (waives sovereignty), however relief can also be sought through a bill in Congress. Federal employees are at least partially protected by the Federal Employee Board, which Federal employees can appeal negative actions to. Add to that, a lot of documentation is required to terminate a Federal employee. Drug and alcohol abuse has to be treated and even absenteeism, incompetence requires management must at least try to help the employee to correct the behavior. As far as I can see, the attempt to fire employees, scare them into quitting is bad management, intended to destroy the Federal Government as it stands. If I were in their position, I'd make them fire me, and take my (very generous) 52 week severence to get paid while seeking another job, failing that, I'd file for retirement. I hope that the targets here know that they can't be that easily fired.
I hear you. I only discuss politics with my husband. My parents taught me not to discuss religion, politics, or finances. I'm 60 now, and I try to make them proud in heaven. This reminded me that, as a person that leans left, that I can still discuss issues, disagree, agree, debate, and carry on a conversation over issues with people that don't think the same way. It was actually kind of enlightening because I've been listening to and responding to MAGA talking points for 10 years and at some point you can't debate lies. It turns into a big fact checking exercise which is fatiguing and just makes you want to quit. Thank you for this post. It gives me hope. Good to see true non MAGA conservatives express what their position is these days.
There is nothing healthier than a good debate with someone who has different points of view from you. It refines the thought process. You either better understand your own point of view, or you concede some of your point of view, whilst your fellow debater concedes some of theirs. The result for both is always better than before the debate. This is where the benefits of DEI are ignored by those currently in power. By sharing life experiences, one opens one's mind to so much more. The sum of parts is always greater than the whole.

As a 40 year federal employee, I’m disgusted but not surprised. Most of my life has been dedicated to civil service only to be treated as trash. Retirement is now in my immediate future as opposed to holding on for 2 more years. I worked for the VA and DFAS in the Federal Government. At first I thought learn the rules (regulations and laws) to perform my role effectively and efficiently. I came to realize that some Federal Government based on laws , regulations, policies, and procedures were put in place 20 to 30 years before my federal service. Changing the organization and the governing policies and procedures while ensuring governmental services continuity would take years not weeks. I am sorry to say that we are in for a rough 4 years.
An airport near San Francisco just had its entire air traffic controller staff resign. They were transferred to a private company that paid less wages so they quit in unison. Here's the kicker. The airport asked the FAA for replacements and were refused. Gonna get real bad before it gets better.

Yes, DEI is also about the neurodivergent, disabled, and anyone who doesn't fit into standard physical, mental, or emotional parameters. Not everyone can do every job, but everyone deserves an opportunity if they CAN do the job.
I think that people don't understand that they are not going out and hiring incompetent people just so they meet someone who falls under DEI. A lot of times, they are just going places to recruit people who fall into those categories. And, people who fall into those categories are given consideration that they might not otherwise get. Personally, I don't believe that a perfect person exists for any job--we all have our strengths and weaknesses in any position. And I certainly don't believe that anyone falling into those categories will automatically do a worse job than a white male.
Besides, trump is certainly not hiring the best people, even amongst white males.

@outlawJosieFox Retired Federal employee here, yes, you can, if the Government gives permission (waives sovereignty), however relief can also be sought through a bill in Congress.
Federal employees are at least partially protected by the Federal Employee Board, which Federal employees can appeal negative actions to. Add to that, a lot of documentation is required to terminate a Federal employee. Drug and alcohol abuse has to be treated and even absenteeism, incompetence requires management must at least try to help the employee to correct the behavior.
As far as I can see, the attempt to fire employees, scare them into quitting is bad management, intended to destroy the Federal Government as it stands. If I were in their position, I'd make them fire me, and take my (very generous) 52 week severence to get paid while seeking another job, failing that, I'd file for retirement. I hope that the targets here know that they can't be that easily fired.
Unemployment? I expect fed employees will get screwed out of those "entitlements" too.

This reminded me that, as a person that leans left, that I can still discuss issues, disagree, agree, debate, and carry on a conversation over issues with people that don't think the same way. It was actually kind of enlightening because I've been listening to and responding to MAGA talking points for 10 years and at some point you can't debate lies. It turns into a big fact checking exercise which is fatiguing and just makes you want to quit. Thank you for this post. It gives me hope. Good to see true non MAGA conservatives express what their position is these days.
There is nothing healthier than a good debate with someone who has different points of view from you. It refines the thought process. You either better understand your own point of view, or you concede some of your point of view, whilst your fellow debater concedes some of theirs. The result for both is always better than before the debate. This is where the benefits of DEI are ignored by those currently in power. By sharing life experiences, one opens one's mind to so much more. The sum of parts is always greater than the whole.

Sociologist here; people are awesome as individuals, when we get into groups, we get sketchy. Collective minds rarely have good results, especially if we feel like we are given “permission” by someone in power. Trump is telling angry people, everything bad that happens to you, is not your fault, it’s “their” fault. “They” changes to fit whatever narrative you need it to to get what you want. I have never understood the DEI argument, but that is probably because I have never ran into DEI issues in my workplaces and that I am a GenX kid that was raised on the American melting pot idea and that diversity makes us stronger.

In fact, for a long time the company was run primarily by white men, but we've gradually introduced more diversity opportunities, not just racial, but for all minorities. No big corporation is perfect, but we're doing just fine
