The towing specs did decline. The range specs are close for the rear wheel and all wheel models, but the tri-motor CyberBeast is much lower than original estimated. The prices have increased a bit more than inflation alone too. Inflation has been around 19.56% since the initial unveiling.
That said, we’ve had a lot of feature leaks over the past few years. I guess people thought those would all come for free…
The original truck unveiling did not have any of these features/specs:
    • Steer by wire
    • Rear wheel steering

    • 48V LV Architecture
    • 800V HV Architecture

They kinda are, if has one of the smallest batteries in an electric truck and has similar range to most. The Silverado has over 200kwh I think around 212, the cybertruck with range extender is at 170, and gets more range. I wish they would have covered this in the event to prevent this kinda of reaction. I am also confused why they dont just put the 50kwh more batteries in the cyberbeast to start. Its the flagship!

What I don't like, is the design of the extender. It should be a separate truck model from the start, or the 'pack' should not be lump in the back of the bed. But rather a 'sled' that just increases the load height of the bed by one set of cells. It's almost like they are forcing you to choose, have a functional bed, or have towing/range capability.

The Cybertruck specs are in line with the rest of the industry. I think Tesla was smart not to put a giant battery in the truck. Chevy and RAM are going to have such a tough time making those 200+kwh batteries. My issue with the Cybertruck is that it does not make for a good work truck. Mostly because of its overall design/ shape. Which I absolutely love but it’s a super truck not a work truck. Though probably a bigger negative is how unheeding such a big and heavy vehicle would be on UK roads. For example it's significantly bigger than a standard UK parking space. Bigger issue still is going to be getting it past UK safety regulations is the US ones fail on multiple issues. You would also have to deal with insane deprecation. It would certainty never be a particle vehicle. More something you buy because you want rather than any sensible racialization.

I’m very happy you brought up the 10% degradation in the first few years. This is the reality no one talks about. 500 mile range is basically 8 hours of straight driving with no stops. You could argue 6 hours and that’s still a long time. I have a Model 3 with 280 miles of range (after 5 years) and we road trip a bunch. Supercharging is not a bad deal. We have the opportunity to go to the bathroom every 3-4 hours. A 320 mile range is low, but it’s a “beast” of a truck. They have to add a range extender battery in the bed because there’s likely no room elsewhere. The hype is high. If you have a reservation to get an early model, get it. If not, wait it out. Well, start hearing much more about it in the next 6 months. I’m guessing many will complain about range, but how many people drive over 100 miles daily? Not many. The other concern is towing. My opinion is any EV truck is not worthy of towing. Not enough range for that. And in America, how many truck owners actually have a hitch ball and tow?

I want the range too. We drive twice a year to our vacation home in Calif from Denver. We stop twice now for fuel and were hoping to only have to charge twice. The other thing I want is a pass through to the back with the cover rolled to security (up? down"). I want to put dog beds back there and have them come into the cab only occasionally. By the time my reservation comes up (300,000) I'm hoping that the price drops a little and maybe they will have upgraded their batteries.

Having to convince yourself that you like it when you know everything else is better , less expensive, more bells and whistles in standard without having to spend more money upgrading, overly concerned about speed instead of practical use, no talk at all about maintenance expenses when they come around, and when it reaches more than 2 years old you're either stuck with a brick or have to dish out more money to keep it going, etc.... Sounds like I'm talking about Apple.

If you add the range extender and you consider just how fast it will now charge once V4s are using 800Volts at 350kW. Stopping for 20 minutes every 350 miles is pretty darn impressive compared to how often you have to stop now.

I think that Range extender is too expensive, It should be like 10 grand max. I think with Time the price of the truck will probably drop like 10 grand and they will improve the battery density so the Dual motor might get at least 400 miles of range and like 550 with the range extender. Overall I feel that its an awesome Truck, just the safety of it and toughness and the Gigantic frame and air suspension. I like it.

    • @saboteurthe

If batteries improve by a lot, Tesla will probably just shrink the battery pack to improve efficiency and lower the cost, believing the range is good enough for the vast majority of customers. And they’ll continue to improve the supercharging network so hopefully it won’t matter much anymore.

But I especially like the mid range one, I think 0-60 in under 3 seconds is too fast for a truck haha! But all in all I say go for it. If you like it and can see yourself utilizing it, I’m sure you will though with the new house:)

the range is definitely the killer for me, 1. you would lose range in about a year; 2. charging up to 80% is better for the battery longevity; 3. What is the point of having a unremovable range extender that takes up 1/3 of the bed size.

Then only range miss was the Tri motor. The RWD is 250 miles like they claimed at original launch and the AWD is actually better at 340 miles vs the 300 they said at launch. The 0-60 are quicker on the AWD and Tri than originally stated.

  • @GottaMoveThatGear
    @GottaMoveThatGear 9 месяцев назад +1

As somebody that has grown up with trucks being used as intended carrying cargo in the bed, that range extender is very disappointing. You go from having a 6 foot bed to 4ft, can't even safely transport 12 ft boards. Whereas with the midgate on the Silverado EV you can safely transport 16 ft no problem. With all these manufacturers making EV trucks it'll be healthy competition, I feel like in a couple of years we'll have a good selection of EV Trucks.

  • @bradshuby

340 max range on the dual motor doesn't really make sense for a truck. The thing with the battery pack addition doesn't really feel better because the range will be less due to the weight addition. Also towing will drain it quickly. Big miss in my opinion, especially with price.

they should've instead of using just a normal shutter for the truck bed they should've made it out of 8kw solar panels (as an option) so help maximise the range to at least over 500 miles. if NIO makes a truck I'm afraid it could outsell the Cybertruck as NIO has already designed a car with over 1000KMs of range (580 miles range).

I think your impressions was a little off. Sadly I think with the current battery tech, Tesla probably had to balance the price verses the range. Increase range means increased price and weight. If they were shooting for the federal tax credit then it had to come in under 80,000 for most of the trucks sold. The range extender to me is a little bit of a cop out. But I guess whatever works. But I think with the new tech in this truck, Tesla’s next and updated vehicles could easily go over the 500 mile range mark.

If the range extender can double as a power wall while it sits in your garage waiting for the next big road trip. That would be better option than a 500mile battery in the truck.
