Got a hollow byzantine bracelet and the sound kinda sucks it does dent easier but byzantines are super expensive compared to other chains due to the weight so it was more of me wanting abyzantine before the good price gets wayyy too expensive

Thank you. I have been searching for someone to explain this solid vs hollow and you are the only one who clearly explained how to tell the difference and I understood it. I was unfortunate in that I had one of the rare Italian dads that did not shower his daughter in gold on her First Communion day, like the other Italian and Greek kids! Dang! lol. I never knew hollow existed until a friend took a chain to be fixed. Turned out to be hollow. I understand the sound and the way the links move. When things are well made or crafted, they move and work in a certain way. It is very hard to find a good, honest jeweller/smith who actually crafts with skill and care anymore. I do have an exquisite place near me but his pieces are estate and antiques. I'd have to sell my house. I just would love some gold pieces. I can only wear gold or silver. I get an immediate reaction if something touches my skin that is plated or has other metals in it. Especially nickel.
Can you please give some advice on how to find quality gold, where to start and how to tell the quality? Hallmarks? I do not know what marks are used in gold or what the International standards are. How to be smart when looking online? I see things advertised but there are a lot of dodgy sellers. Any advice would be welcome. I will look at your website to get some idea but I think you are way out of my league as well. The owls are beautiful :) Sorry this was so long.

I have a hollow silver chain I knew I was buying hollow. Looks great. I don't mind it.
My question is, is a 6 gram solid chain as strong as a 6 gram hollow. More weight is more strength so comparing a hollow to a solid the same size doesn't help me make a decision.

Everything is about quality if it’s an Italian made hollow rope chain or anything else your good solid chains are good as an investment but gold goes up and down regardless I had a hollow Byzantine for years and it never broke tarnished or anything

The is Jewelers 101. It is all about making a profit. He is using false perspective on "image" so you will spend more money for a piece that has the same "impressive" look. He is not even going into gram weight. (the main thing when buying ANYTHING gold.) for example, a 14k 12.25 mm 24 inch gucci puff or puff mariner/anchor chain is around 40-60 grams depending on the different styles it is made. On a scale, that is the same gram weight for a 14k 5mm 30 inch rope chain or a 14k 6 mm 20 inch miami cuban chain. You are going to be spending around the same amount as well. Investment wise, It is going to be the same amount of gold for all 3 items. It is all about the style you want from here. something that looks bigger for the buck? or something smaller. there is no right or wrong answer. it's all preference.
What I am trying to say is, you don't have to feel "cheap" for buying a $2,500-$5,500 gucci puff link just because it is hollow. Don't let this man make you think you HAVE to spend $15,000-$25,000 for the sized image. Also, some people also don't want all the heavy weight, but still want the big size. and it cost less. Nothing wrong with that. That is called being smart with your money.
I do have to say though. Some pieces like hollow ropes or cubans, they tend to not be as tough. to be honest, they are very weak and break from little tension. because a rope and cuban was never, normally created to be hollow. A Gucci puff was. there for you don't have to worry as much for it breaking from little stress.
Think about how much you are wanting to spend. then look at the gram weight of the pieces you like. and go from there.

I don’t care if it’s Hollow or solid if it is real gold all depends on what look I’m going for and how heavy I want it to be on my neck if I have enough money for a solid heavy piece but I don’t want all that weight on my leg I might want a hollow chain to have that same presence without the neck breaking weight

Nothing wrong with either decision it boils down to personal preference some people have no issues spending 300-500lbs on sneakers I’m sticking with my 150$ air max/forces lol
One thing I noticed was the hollow gold anything is like hitting a tin can you can tell is thin and the sound is amplified vs solid is like a brick wall the sound you get is only coming from the surface and isn't echofied my it being thin as its thick

I love hollow chains. I have a Gucci (puffy) 10k gold hollow that I’ve been wearing since 1991 with a gold 10k English crown attached. I had no problems like that with mine. The sound it makes I like. Remind me of those casinos chips. The solid chains I know is uncomfortable to wear if it’s big and you live by the equator.

If you are just going for the look and not an investment, then sure opt for hollow. But as an investment, no. You get what you pay for and some people get scammed and pay too much because they do not understand the difference. You can get a solid gold necklace with less than 200 grams. That would be a better investment than a hollow gold necklace. Why....because you're getting more gold. You don't want to pay for air....
@@jayparfaye2340 my gold jewelry is for my enjoyment and comfort not only as an investment. I. An sleep with my gold chains on or tuck them inside for the perfect neck profile and still look good without that extreme weight. If you want to invest in something, I prefer the stock market.

My hollow chains actually lasted longer than my solid 114g custom anchor link when i wore it to bed it would always have some bends in it after i woke up from how heavy it was on the thinner part of the link im guessing. It was unique i cant really describe it but anyone else had the same happen to similar link ?
