English is not my first language, and I'm obv not cultured when it come to German politics so I missed most of the joke! Nonetheless, my biggest takeaway is how normalized fascism is, and how protected dictatorial leaders are (up until they are of no use to the USA). You can have a fascist president or prime minister but if anyone too far left try to get elected, all the sudden, it can't happen!
The irony is that most people who will either react or simply watch this video and agree with Volker are themselves capitalist. I don't think that you can be capitalist and agree with anything said in this video. Everything described in this video is in line with what capitalism is. It's meant to keep a hierarchy where there are people on top that order and people in the bottom that obey. He is basically explaining the insane amount of leverage capitalistic countries have and how everything can be justified in order to preserve said world order.
The demonetization of China by most Western countries is a great example of that. The USA has a far worse impact on the world, yet China, because they lean left-authoritarian, is perceive as a place you go if you want to die. Anyone who has been to China will recognize how their system (although very imperfect) work much better than anything the USA has offered to his citizens. You reading this, if you believe in capitalism and think that Volker is spitting facts (as I do), can you explain to me what capitalism as done for your country? Are you still living paycheck to paycheck? Have you seen your life improve in the last 20 years? I bet most of you haven't, and the reason is capitalism as a concept, which sums up the decision making and thought of the people described in this video.

In this series the translation is pretty good.
These are just a few things that are somewhat German-specific and not everyone knows:
      - Bavaria is considered a conservative federal state, like Texas without firearms.
      - Kohl was conservative chancellor for 16 years. Although it was able to initiate reunification, it did almost nothing afterwards and missed the necessary reforms.
      - Schröder was then Social Democratic Chancellor and had to introduce these reforms because Germany has now become the bottom of the list in terms of growth in Europe. These reforms were necessary but also very unpleasant for the citizens, which is why he became quite unpopular (especially among his own people) and was voted out after 7 years after a vote of no confidence.
Stoiber was the conservative opponent from Bavaria. He was also called Stammering-Stoiber.
      - Afterwards, the conservative Merkel became Chancellor for 16 years. Although it maintained all of Schröder's reforms (for which he became unpopular), it acted as if she had nothing to do with them and, like Kohl, did not introduce any own reforms. She was nicknamed Mrs. Teflon because everything you throw at her slides off her without leaving a stain.
      - That's why the current left-green government is trying to do this, which now has a real mountain to work through and unfortunately they are not very talented or educated.

Germany is dominated by left politics too atm. That doesn't hinder them to reduce democracy and use the media to fake news and engage in wars. Corrupt politicians are the problem, as is an extreme ideology that is forced upon the population. Studies have shown that only 40% of germans nowadays are comfortable to say what they think in public. That is not how a democracy should function. I am pretty sure many people disagree with me, but i think we are slowly but steadily pushed into totalitarism. And i don't care if totalitarism is right or left, i don't want neither.

"... can you explain to me what capitalism as done for your country?"
Well, in contrast to the US, we have a social market economy. This is also capitalist but with socialist components. It's usually the case that capitalism ensures that you can afford the socialist components.
In most socialist countries it is usually the case that a handful of people spend each other's money until there is nothing left and that leads to poverty. The last good example is Venezuela.
The big weakness of socialism is the lack of incentive to perform and if no one perform, the whole people becomes impoverished.
We had a close-up comparison with a capitalist and a socialist Germany side by side. They had to build a wall to prevent their citizens from escaping into capitalism.

I disagree with the Allende story.
      It is very one sided.
Yes, the USA was in it by supporting the opposition.
But it was not like the USA had to plan the coupe to get rid of him.
Allende got elected with votes of the Christian Party (PDC) because general Rene Schneider was killed on an attempted kidnapping.
      There was the USA involved.
The changes Allende wanted were to much for his coalition partner and the opposition. His politics and operations of the CIA lead to high inflation and a huge black market.
Kissinger said that th USA did not have done it but made the way for it.
There are no files that show a direct involement of the USA in the coup. They were in contact and knew about the coup in forehand but they did not plan it.
It is not about capitalism, it is also about freedom.
I was born in the GDR and I know how a socialist regime is. We all kmnow about the cruelities countries like the Soviet Union, China, Romania or the GDR have done against their own people. I am for the network of social insurances like health, unemployment and so on and I think that certain business must belong to the state because the market is not able to regulate itsself. But I decline regimes like the one in China or we had during the Cold War in the eastern blocks.
Allende was not a good democrat. He was head of a gouverment that tried to do left extrem reforms on the country which did not work out.
The GDR named schools and streets after him.
"The demonetization of China by most Western countries is a great example of that. The USA has a far worse impact on the world,"
China is by far the greatest danger to world peace. The USA.. what about the Soviet Union.
yes, I can also tell all thge bad stuff the USA has done in the world but with all theses events there is another question: What had the Soviet Union done during this time?
Pispers is leaving this oout. The attemped to get influence over the woorld and spread communism. Trying to get its own influence on countries like Iran or Afghanistan.
The support it gave in Vietnam and Korea, the support for terrorist groups like PLO or the RAF in Germany. The RAF and PLO were linked with the help of the GDR.
The killing of Georgi Markov with help of the KGB. The 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre in China. The CPC was in gouverment and still is.
I can enjoy the show of pispers and I like it but it is political caberet. he does not have the truth. It is biased and Pispers is quite far on the left side.
We don't need leades like Stalin, Brechnev, Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Xi Jingping or Allende.
We need a social democratic market economy like we had in the 70's in Germany or Denmark.
Dude, dictatorship is bad. There is no such thing as good dictatorship. It is not that it was not done right. It is that power corrupts people.
You saw this in all authoritarian gouverments in the eastern blocks.
In capitalism you have classes divided in poor and rich, in full socialist / communist countries you had people diveded in regular people and party barons. Bonzen in German. Think it comes from French, les bonzes.
You did not see how Saddam Hussein got decapitated because he got hung.
And they showed pictures of the dead body. He was not decapitated.

Great Reaction. It is political satire of the finest, not comedy. There are not many jokes in there, it's a very sad topic made digestible with a bit of humor, irony and sarcasm. Satire is always socially and or politically criticism wrapped in a "comedy" costume, this way it is one of the last elements banned in states becoming a dictatorship, because they can satirists can always pretend it was all jokes and stuff or simply art. So yes you might miss a few jokes languagewise, but it's not a lot anyway. Bavaria is like the south of the U.S. more conservative, more right-wing elements, not necessary Nazis, but xenophobia is also more common there. They want to stick to themselves more, keep their culture alive and uninfluenced, as it is a "Freistaat" (Free state, former kingdom) which joined the German Republic with special conditions, they do things differently than the other states of Germany. Can't wait for Part 2 to 5.
You are pretty educated, but you are from Canada as well, which is totally different to the U.S. educational-wise. I mean you mentioned stupid or uneducated people being everywhere, but what's topic here are not individuals, but the overall education, which has less to do with the intelligence of individuals but is all about what educational mentality and information accessibility are established in your country, so... what is taught in schools, media, and what mentality, values, and priority of information is taught upon the people. Like in the U.S. everything is very U.S. centered, news are mainly about the U.S., schools mainly teach American History, and there is a general infestation of overexaggerated patriotism/supremacy beliefs leading to the idea that the rest of the world is irrelevant.

    German here.
Volker Pispers was making political caberet, political satire. He retired a few years ago. He often refers in half sentences to things a German of the time knows (he was usually playing on stage live for audience) and his show changed over time with current topics Of the time.
Still, some of his shows are rather timeless and worth watching, like this one is. Please go on.
    ...
There are three German TV shows I would recommend to you that are playing todays and that are political satiric in their own way.
The oldest is "Extra 3" (pronounced 'extra dry', the 3 derived from being broadcasted first by the 'third' (regional)TV stations). They feature a lot of little things going wrong in Germany, but are not shy to do international topics as well.
Then there is "Die Anstalt" (which either translates to 'broadcasting organization' or 'lunatic asylum' 😅 ). There usually is a general topic to each broadcast and the quality might vary, but they have their moments. This show was emerged from 'Neues aus der Anstalt' (News from the...), which had about the same concept, which itself was the successor from the very old satire show "Scheibenwischer" (windshield wiper). Scheibenwischer started well before Extra 3, but it does not count because of the name change. 😉
Third would be the 'heute show', which was named after the news from the same TV station, 'heute' (today). It is probably the most comedic of the three and also often use very bad word creations that can make one cringe. Still, it's fun to watch.
Whether there are good translations I don't know. The quality of the automatic translation might vary.

In terms of population, Germany is almost exactly 4 times smaller than the US. -Pispers sometimes incorporates prejudices, like Bavaria is the Texas of Germany. Schröder was a supporter of neoliberalism and expanded the low-wage sector. His party then had problems getting re-elected.

I always liked Volker Pispers because he was one of the artists I would not like to call "comedians". Political satire, cynical sometimes, that was what he did. He once said that after 20 (?) years on stage, it was time for him to retire, and I understood that. Still, people are reacting to what he once said, and I like that.

Honecker was the head of the eastern german communist unity party who held the eastern german population captive and is responsible for the shooting of civilians who tried to leave the country across the wall. He was the leader of the USSR's east german puppet state in which people were oppressed. Merkel's quote here "I lived in a dictatorship. The only language dictators understand is violence." refers to her childhood in that eastern german puppet state. He is making fun of it because Merkel was very on line with the communist dictatorship regime during her youth, otherwise she wouldn't have been allowed to get a university degree there.

    • @chrisrudolf9839

Yes, and also the main punchline of the joke is that the GDR, the very dictatorship Merkel lived in, was NOT toppled by a violent revolution but by a combination of almost exclusively peaceful civil protests and the GDR being close to national bancruptcy, there was no relevant armed resistance movement in the GDR that would have been anywhere close to being a threat to the GDR government, so her experience growing up in that dictatorship should have taught her the opposite of her statement!

love your video. Also please do part 2, 3, 4 and 5. Its in reality only one continuous video but cut into 5 pieces.
Context: Gehardt Schröder was german chancellor at 9/11/2001 and at the time this video was recorded. Angela Merkel was leader of the oppositon (at the time - later of cause also chancellor). Gehardt Schröder was allthough in the SPD (Social Democratic Party) at the far right in his party and did much more pro-economy / pro-company / anti-social policy when the "conservative" chancellor before him.
10:19 context: Ernst Honeker was long standing leader of east germany (GDR). germany was still split in west germany (pro USA and capitalistic) and east germany (pro USSR and communistic) as result of WW2. The border was heavy armed and guarded (like north and south korea this days). It was the hotspot of the cold war. The iron border between east and west. I will not explain the history of it all, but basicly east germany was a dictatorship with harsch laws, only one party, mass monitoring of the people and hardly freedom of movement. Merkel was born and raised in east germany. thats the joke because the german reunification 1989 was without violence and war... but forced by the people of east germany.

    Hey there,
even if some of your views on the world and on politics are maybe a bit extreme, I really like to watch someone actually knowing stuff about world politics reacting to Volker Pispers. I am very curious about the way you will see all of this german satire. There is a lot to follow if you are interested.
Please complete this series, I actually like you googling politicians you don't know etc.
I like that you know stuff about socialst in Europe not being far left etc.
When you have finished this series about US and terrorism, there is a pretty good one about capitalism and money from Pispers, too - that one would maybe trigger every braincell of you haha. But I don't know if there is a translation to that one, I will check that out later and maybe update my comment.
German satire is making people laugh while at the same time teaching them history and making them feel bad - but it is truely some kind of art, and we have a few who are really good at it. Pispers quit the stage a few years ago, so the thing you are watching is 20 years old (Gerhard Schröder was our chancellor before Angela Merkel).
Hagen Rether is good, he has some good translated ones, too (like "Nothing changes" for example). Or "Die Anstalt" - german satire which is sent on german television every week, some crazy stuff on America, Brexit, Ukraine etc. Or Jan Böhmermann, he is a genius in my eyes, but he really polarizes in Germany.
I would be interested in your opinion on stuff going on around the world. It is funny to watch a new music video or some facts about some countries, but when you yourself say about you that you have an extreme view on politics, I would like to know your opinions on those things.
So if you want - continue your journey in those topics, I would love to see your reaction to it.

That's from 2004 or 2005. Schröder was the chancellor (head of government). And his party SPD is (or was...) the big center-left winged party.
Bavaria is very conservative. Since 1949 almost all governments were led by one party, the conservatice CSU (since 1957: all; every single one). But the dialect is funny, too. :=)
Angela Merkel (chancellor from 2005-2021) was born in raised in communist East Germany (GDR); and, let's say, she wasn't in the resistance before the system was near to collapse. Pispers makes fun of this: Before 1989 silent and unpolitical, but after the peaceful end of the system the biggest fighter against communismus und suppression.

you misunderstood the part about Merkel and Honecker. Merkel grew up in the GDR (German Democratic Republic, "East Germany") while Honecker was it's Chancellor. He makes fun of Merkel's quote "Dictators only understand violence" because the end of the GDR (a very repressive country, dictatorship like) came through very peaceful protests.

    • @anonymus390
      @anonymus390 6 месяцев назад

with her logic she applied to the war in Iraq, (dictators only know violence), applying the same to the GDR, Germany at the time should have attacked the GDR, Merkel could have been collateral damage as a citizen in the GDR.

Hi, I'm late to the party, but it seems like you never reacted to parts 2-5. I really appreciate your leftist perspective and knowledge on the subjects, so I would love to see you react to the rest of this show. When he refers to Bavaria critically, it's because it is, unfortunately, politically very conservative. Anyway, I enjoyed the video. Greetings from Bavaria. ;)

he is one of the best german left wing, kind of democratic socialist cabaretists, comedians...but not active anymore.
unfortunaly right wingers also try to use and exploit his work, play him out of context...the usually stuff...but this should not distract from his real thoughts.
SPD in germany is not a real left wing party anymore, it's a typical neoliberal capitalist party with some kind of social policies, but this has become rare because
of the usual propaganda of boulevard media, conservatives etc...they fall in line.
also like many parties in europe they capitulate over the right wing racist zeitgeist in their policies instead of pushing back.
what he is saying here about Angela Merkel, a conservative CDU politician/chairwoman at this time, is very interesting:
she was in oppostion to the neutrality and pushed for the iraq war, aligning with Bush.
and like Pispers stated here, she said that she lived in a dictatorship and dictators only understand force...because she lived in the former GDR before 1990.
the thing is...she had a really good life there...and this dictatorship has fallen peacefully, not because of war....i also lived there for the record.
and he makes fun of this, because in her logic she used about iraq war, the west would have then too attacking the former GDR...and probably she would have
become a "collateral damage" at this time.
unfortunaly most people of course doesnt understand this "joke", but also many german dont.

There should be no system at all and everyone should decide for themselves. Also a life more in harmony with nature, would be the right way.
Cause right now, we are the foreign species, who has no natural enemies left and we are multiplying our numbers in the blink of an eye.
Since I saw Volker Pispers, I had to change many of my views. 180 degrees with america and it's foreign policy and how they had not one war since WW2, that was justified in any way, except for their own financial interests.
I have no problem with the american people. They live in a propaganda world as most countries do. We are way to easy to control, especially when we have the feeling of being part of a group. That's exactly the reason, why borders, religion and so on exist. To seperate and to control. Would everybody think for themselves and not listen to the media, there would be a very quick change.
But we are way too comfortable...
Don't worry, I think capitalism is dying right now and within the next 5-10 years.
Or they lead us to a special event, to save capitalism once more...
    War!
But without me, I like all the people, even the stupid ones and the assholes, which you can find in any culture, country, religion...
But what I find way more often, also in every group of people, are really nice people, who could be a good friend of mine. And I don't want to kill or hurt anyone of them....
    Have a good one! ✌🏻

"no system" would automatically lead to "people who want your stuff, coming to your house to take it by force"
"no system" means "the strongest gets what they want"
The good people refusing to take control will always lead to the bad people doing it, because they can.

@@liquidminds That's how nature works, I know. Is it any different now? The system gives you a "feeling of security" and at the same time scares you, so that you live in a state of fear all the time and some still can take anything they want! It is not really better. Even worth imo! Now you have more than you need, but still you are never happy, bcs they tell you, you can have something better - that you don't need - you can buy it with money - you don't have(banks love it) - to impress people - you don't even like - and here you have it, capitalism! We need a framework that punishes those that harm others but enables those that just want to live their life.

No offence, but, I have talked to about 7000 people in the last 18 months, and once we were on a normal base, no one ever mentioned, they wanted to be rich or they want war,... the only thing they wanted, was to live in peace with their family and friends and that's all.
To think someone would wanna take anything you own, just shows, how deep you are stuck in their system!
It's ok, I know it will never change for some reasons, so we don't have to discuss this any further, your view wins.
I try to live my life as good as I can and I guess, you are doing the same.
At the end, when we are about to die, in the last minutes, I know I won't regret anything and if only for a short time, I know I lived a good and real life. That is what counts for me! I am helping people on the daily, I lost so many of my fears, I do things I never thought I would do in my lifetime, I haven't had a bad day over the last two and a half years...
But to achieve this, I had to let everything go, what is part of those systems and I had to learn many psychological things(what also means, I had to suffer a few times to ask the right questions).

You should learn about the victims of this state before you say, that it was not so bad. people want to leave and were killed, because of leaving the GDR. They military at the border has the command to shot everyone down, who wants to leave. The whole state was a prison.
they broke down because they had no money.
