I am an historian in the U.S. His summary is generally accurate. Granted a little simplified, but of course he's doing it as much for comedy as for education. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Hi - I hope I don't dissapoint you but he's doing it not only for comedy, he's doing it also for left wing education. He's a left wing guy and as I was young I loved him. I've visited his shows several times and he became more and more crumpy with the audience as they didn't vote for the right (left wing) side.
Nevertheless, his shows are still really good to complement missing pictures but for my taste too simple and ignoring that not only USA is the bad guy ... the world is grey ... 🙂not

    • @Quakie91
      @Quakie91 Год назад +29

@@schoeppemichael For this show none of that is important. It stays focused on it's topics and does a great job at both educating and entertaining. And while it's about the US he also weaves in a good amount of critique on German polititians, showing his audience that they aren't just observers of the US's doings, but also tied into the events through their political decisions.
And the other shows are mostly about Germany, so I don't really understand why you would interpret his works as "ignoring that not only USA is the bad guy". Sure he makes more remarks about the US than other powers, but he doesn't ignore them completely. Also, I can understand why he focuses on the US more than the others. The US has a very effective propaganda machinery including popculture and with that a very heavy cultural influence on Germany. Seeing as we slowly but apparently unstoppably go down the path of americanisation it is important to make people aware about the strength of american influence in all areas (military, economics, research etc.) on a global scale especially concidering they love to play the good guys.
Sure, it would be nice to have a show like this on other powers as well, especially Russia or China, but media reports are far more critical about them than America already and their cultural influence isn't as high either. While it is easy to assume his "leftness" also plays a role, which it might do a little bit, he does throw in occasional critique on Russia as well, though, as I said, I'd also wish for more.

Depends on the age. I.m a GenXer and this stuff with Central to South America was on the news for quite a few years from early ti mid 80's. I was in the 4th grade at the time and every morning at the start of class my teacher would turn the TV on to the news and watch. Many younger generations won't catch some of this stuff in 80's Metal and Punk Rock. The Killing Joke had constantly sung about this very event. Even Megadeth had sung about our current situation over 20 yrs. ago Symphony of Destruction.

Volker Pispers was a teacher before he became a comedian. His rhetoric is brilliant. He is more a political cabaret artist than just a comedian. He is well educated, and you can be sure that before he opens his mouth, he has done his homework. He is a master of satirical political cabarets and very well known and liked in Germany. He says what many in Germany think.

The point regarding Bavaria is that from all states in Germany they are that one which always want to be a bit special and treated like that. That in a nutshell is the reason behind jokes about Bavaria. Mentally wise it’s a little bit similar to Texas.

  • @RustyDust101
    @RustyDust101 Год назад +34

Yes, unfortunately, this is true. Volker Pispers as a satirical cabaretist has to skirt the line of slander very carefully in Germany. As any deliberate untruth about someone directly can result in a law suit. So what he says is factually true. How he delivers it takes the skill of a very talented cabaretist. Note again the difference between political cabaret and simply being a comedian. Comedians make up stories as they desire for laughs. Political cabaretists may exaggerate certain characteristics but they rarely if ever skirt into the dangerous territory of factual fallacies.
Volker Pispers has a PhD in history, so what he says is very well researched; and he knows what he is talking about.
Edit: BTW: this whole programm of his was from 2004, so it's really old today.
Merkel still wasn't chancellor of Germany, but Gerhard Schröder. He was the head of the government in Germany, who in the last six months of his chancellorship signed multiple contracts with Gazprom, the Russian oil and gas company, which was under the control of one of the oligarchs that supported Putin even back then. Only when he had signed these contracts did he give a clear hint to the state minister-president of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to agree to have another gas pipeline connection straight through the Baltic Sea from Russia into Germany, bypassing Ukraine and Poland. Better known today as Nord Stream 2. You know, the pipeline that blew up last year.
Yepp, Gerhard Schröder was the chancellor who effectively signed the deal with a Russian government controlled company. Once he lost his chancellorship (which was quite obvious for anyone who knew the political situation of Germany back then) he waited a mere three months before recieving a nice, cushy no-work membership on the board of directors of Gazprom, plus some amazing bonuses as such a director. Strange how THAT could have happened, right? Yepp, even Germany isn't free of corrupt politicians making private deals for their own benefit.
The Bavarians are among the most staunch conservatives, almost right leaning voters in Germany. Edmund Stoiber was a loooong-acting politician from Bavaria, in their local party of the CSU.
The CSU is the sister party of the much larger CDU, the German conservative party. The CSU ONLY acts within Bavaria, but the CDU doesn't. It's something like a gentleman's agreement. The CSU stays more or less out of federal topics, for that the CDU doesn't try to go voter grabbing in Bavaria.
Schroeder however was from the SPD, the social democratic party, more or less the antithesis of anything that the CSU embodies. So when Pispers said, the Germans weren't even desperate enough to back Edmund Stoiber when he tried to make a bid to become the German chancellor, he was joking about the ridiculousness of that comparison. Stoiber had backers in Bavaria, and that was it. The rest of Germany more or less ignored him, despite him being quite a loudmouth.
Edit 2. The term "Von deutschem Boden darf nie wieder Krieg ausgehen" / "Never again shall war start from German soil" is the preamble to the contract Germany signed, and put into its constitution when it was rearmed in 1955. This was a clear indication that all German forces were designated as defensive forces that were allowed to operate ONLY inside the territories of Germany. That was later amended to include any NATO countries, OR if NATO countries were attacked to fight back invaders. But never again were German troops supposed to enter another country in an offensive war. Pispers changed that text slightly to state "Ohne Deutschland darf nie wieder ein Krieg ausgehen." / "No war may start ever again without Germany." West Germany back then provided arms to virtually anyone, except clear Soviet satellite states. Later, after the reunification arms and heavy weapons were still delivered to almost every country from Germany.

Bavaria is down in the south, right at the start of the Alps. It's got that secluded feel due to all the mountains around - kinda like how Texas or the Bible Belt is in the US with that pro-business, conservative, right-wing Christian vibe. That's also where Hitler got his first followers. The CSU (Christian Social Union) has been winning the elections there since 1945. Their politicians have been involved in many corruption scanadals over the years, but because major car brands (Audi, BMW, etc.) are all planted in Bayern they hold significant economic power. Pispers likes to take the piss out of them.

Funfact: Audi, as a leftover of the famous Auto Union, was illegally moved from Saxony and Berlin to Bavaria, and was illegally using the brand name since 1946. Technically speaking, by applying the relevant laws, after the reunification all of the Audi assets should have been returned to Eastern Germany and all Western Germany Audi facilities should have been shut down because the corresponding laws had not changed since 1945.

In fact, Saddam Hussein was part of the Sunnite minority in Iraq and oppressed the Shiite majority in his country - Iran also had a large Shiite majority that was in charge after the Iranian Revolution, so Saddam feared that his budding dictatorship could be destabilized by Iran.

    #Info @SarahDangler Because of Bavaria.
Bavaria is part of Germany, but Bavaria is a free state. That means Bayern have a lot more freedom. For example, they are allowed to make their own laws and decide for themselves about the railways, the postal and telegraph systems, the military, the spirits and beer taxes as well as the general state administration, fees and taxes and this independently of the rest of Germany. Bavaria is also the federal state that brings in the most money in Germany. There were also a few wars between Bavaria and Prussia in the past and all of this contributed to the fact that the other federal states are a bit jealous of Bavaria and therefore often a bit hostile. But none of this is really meant seriously, they just annoy each other.

    • @WaechterDerNacht

      Please not Daniele Ganser!
He worked at University of Zürich and got kicked out because he didn't work with scientific methods. When he published something, it wasn't in peer reviewed journals and often contained conspiracy myths.
He based alot of things on old publications that were proven wrong in the mean time, because he wanted sources that support his believes.
Now he is close with people like Ivo Sasek that is the leader of a cult. To this cult belongs a online tv called "KlaTV" or "KlagemauerTV" (Wailing Wall TV). Ganser, a self claimed "peace researcher" (Dr. phil. In history has nothing to do with "peace research") is one of their favourites.
If you look at something from him, be very aware and don't just publicise a video. Do the research and you'll vers soon find out that most of what he puts out are just suggestive questions sprinkled with oversimplified explanations that often were proven wrong in the meantime.
So I would rather recommend the video from a channel called "Der Dunkle Parabelritter" about him.
If you ask me, people like Ganser are problematic for democracies because they knowingly spread misinformation and hatred by mixing it with conspiracy theories.

Unfortunately, US policies have brought this world towards total destruction for no other reason than If not invented here, can't be good and must be destroyed. Dividing, creating chaos and fear so that we just give in.

He isn't lying, nore "not lying completely". Of course the story is larger, but didn't change in the results he is talking about. That being said, he also said "american foreign policy", which he criticised. Something you left away among others to reduce this to "left wing agitation" - keep that in mind yourself.

He is a pretty leftwing agitator & ideologue. He is framing everything into one direction in all of his shows: Capitalism bad. Socialism good. USA bad. Conservatives bad.
In one of his older live shows in the Alter Wartesaal in Cologne he said word by word:
      "Socialism was never really tried"
He said this in a side sentence but it gave away completely his mindset and the direction of all of his propaganda, that is disguised as a funny satrical stage show.
That sentence he said is the classic Kommunist-Socialist excuse for trying the often failed kommunist and socialist experiments AGAIN and AGAIN.
And that is directly linked to dead people. Allways. Even in the case of the DDR. Everytime new.
      THAT is Volker Pispers.
And everything he utters on stage and here in this video has one direction only: Socialism good, Capitalism bad, USA bad and all that other lefty drivel and flawed ideology crap.
He is telling in a very funny way some half-truths about the mistakes of the USA.
He is leaving things away and is telling in a funny way only, what he wants to tell. If you think, that you've heard the complete truth about ANYTHING Pispers is framing and saying in his stage shows, then you are pretty naive, to say it politely.
And I don't say this to insult you. If you are seriously trying to tell me, that he isn't leaving stuff away and frames other stuff to push his leftwing agenda, then this is my impression of the whole affair here.

This video is a classic on RUclips.
It's maybe important to mention that this guy is a leftist. So his criticism is / was (he's not active anylonger) always quite selective and predictable.

But not less truthful (as if "leftists" are any different in this respect than "rightists"). It balances the right wing propaganda from the USA nicely. The only reason that it's predictable is because he's using simple facts. Facts which unfortunately are largely unknown by the newer generations.

I think left and right have no meaning anymore. Just like Greens is just a label, we are green, let's help kill, let's go back to coal.
Right now US has Democrats in power, they are labelled left, they are far right if Republicans.
As Elon Musk said, I haven't changed my views, I used to be Democrat, they have moved so much to the right and Republicans are fighting for' left' causes.
Of course, I paraphrased, he merely had a brilliant diagram.
Fact is that US has evolved into an evil, meglomanic destructor. If you consider yourself right, I am sure u r not too happy of forced deindustrikizatiin of Germany. Someone in Germany has to say it loud that Nord Stream was an attack on Germany and EU.

Oh what an argument. Someone called leftist, so his arguments are selective and predictable. Like rightist, like centrist. Like yours to don't think yourself.

I just gave this information (it was not an argument) for non German people who don't know him. Not that they think he's a neutral comedian.
And he's isn't incorrect in this video, I just said that he clearly has an agenda and people should know about that if they plan to watch more videos of him.
