6 months ago I too was in Florence. One of my most favorite cities in the world if not my most favorite. I shall return again in 6 months to continue the love affair. it will be my 6th time in Florence. It is a place that gives me energy and joy. Knowing more of its history is of great import to me so, I thank you. Grazie mille. A presto, ce vediamo!
i absolutely loved this video presentation and it was so intriguing and so well told with great details and context. please could you send m the second part link. thank you so much
Salve Messer Tafel, thank you for this insightful and informative presentation, I appreciate your affable personality, your casual yet dignified style and the authenticity of your work. All the best! -from a 41y.o Australian guy living in the City of Sydney (just for your viewership demographic analysis).
WOW!!!! I have lived and worked in Florence for the past 34 years (I'm 77 and teach art history) and have never before seen such a fabulous summation of Florence's history. It is brilliant the way that you "eternalise" these specific events into the general laws of History. Gee, it's all about modern-day American Democrats and Republicans, in a (soon-to-be?) post-MAGA world. I'm sure you know the saying that those who do not know history are doomed to re-live it (added to which, we cynics know that those who know history are doomed to live in a world created by those who do not know it). Bravo davvero!! Keep 'em coming!!!!!
Hi! Thank you for your thoughts, and that means a lot coming from someone of your experience & credentials! I'm currently in Firenze trying to figure out the next segment!!
I now have the appetite to learn more, especially regarding the Renaissance artists reliance on the patronage of the Medici.I know about the Art,you can fill me in with background details of life in Florence during their reign.
Great documentary, and like everyone else I'm looking forward to Part 2! I was just wondering, have you seen the TV series "Medici" (2016), which deals with the same period of Florentine history which I guess will make up Part 2 of your talk? What do you think of that serues, its historical authenticity etc?....
Hi! Thank you for watching! I've been doing smaller clips and posting them, and since so much has been done about the Medici, I am jumping to the republic's final days in my next installment. I may go back and discuss the Medici in a future clip. As for the Medici TV show, I recommend it to friends and students as it gives pretty good insight into the era. As for historical accuracy, most of it is good, but since these stories can be so complex, they cut stuff out and simplify the story a bit.
