I'm gonna be honest here, and I feel this a pretty bold statement, but I think the Triton Athlete is currently the biggest competitor to the Ranger Wildtrak which is widely considered as the best in it's class (The Ranger Raptor is on a class of it's own). Now before you say anything, I know, the Ranger has much more tech, rear-discs, rear power outlets (not sure if it's also available in the wildtrak but I know it is available on the raptor), more power on paper (around 200ps & 500nm) and probably a slightly more spacious cabin. However, I will argue that the Triton is still very much a good option. Sure, it's not as focused on tech as say the Ranger, but it focuses more on practicality, drive, and being a workhorse pickup. It has almost the same if not more payload capacity than the wildtrak, and it's interior is very much focused on functionality such as the big ac buttons designed so that you can still press them even with gloves on like if you were on the job. Sure, on paper, the Triton has less torque, but keep in mind that the Triton can reach peak torque earlier, and it's engine also has a bigger displacement, so by no means is the Triton slow. Lastly, and what makes this Triton truly special in it's class, is it's 4x4 system, also known as Super Select 4WD-II. Mitsubishi's 4x4 system is by far one of, if not the best in the entire class, the closest to it being the Ranger. What really makes it special is that you can still use its 4WD mode (4H) on High-traction surfaces unlike with other 4x4s in the market, and Mitsubishi so far is still one of the only ones to have a 4WD system that is able to do that (aside from the Ranger Raptor). Paired with it's Drive modes, and if you were to give it some off-road tires, man this thing would be nearly unstoppable off-road! If only they were to make a RalliArt-Edition Triton based off of the AXCR-spec....
I'd also like to add that this is exactly why I'm so torn between the Ranger and the Triton for my first car, so I'd like to ask if there are any Triton and/or Ranger owners out there, what's it been like???
@@GDarJuanJr Exactly!! That's what makes Mitsubishi 4x4s so special to me! I can really testify to how well Super Select works since my family has owned 2 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 4x4s, one which was a 2013 GLS V 4x4 MT, and now currently a 2023 GT 4WD AT, and man not once did it feel like it was struggling, Mitsubishi's 4x4 System truly is one of if not the best in it's class! (that or I'm really biased to mitsubishi haha)
I'd have to agree, but I can't help but wait on the all-new Hilux, because if the rumors are true, and if they do design it similarly to the Tacoma, the "pickup wars" in the past couple of decades will be playing on a whole 'nother level.
We have the triton 4x4 MT GLX and it rides smoothly and you're comfortable inside ever if it's a long drive or you're stuck in traffic. The chassis is also very stable in rough terrains, in curvy road and especially when you're in the highway doing 100+KM. My only nitpick is that the manual transmission is really short in the 2nd gear(got used to the sedan's transmission). Overall it's quite a good car even without the shiny tech.
As I ranger owner, I think this pick up is a solid segment entree for Mitsubishi. I’m not a fan of the front facsia but depende na rin siguro sa taste.
