I love that she gets lost in her own world in her songs, but my favourite thing is that she invites you to get lost in there with her. I think that's the difference between a someone singing their songs and someone preforming their songs, they never forget to include you the audience.
Ooh, Wilfred Owen's a really interesting poet to bring up adjacent to Julien, though. Not someone I'd have thought by myself of comparing, but it makes absolute sense that someone who likes one would like the other (I do!). There's an unflinchingness of describing experiences there and -- like you said, a questioning of the way things are, or God, or meaning -- that I think make sense for someone to connect to in both cases.
