  • Up next to pitch in The Den is Stuart Ingram, owner of House of Elrick's Artisan Gin - a spirit business that has only been running for six months. Stuart is seeking 80K in exchange for a 6% equity stake. His drink and figures go down a treat with Peter Jones, but are the other Dragons willing to back Stuart's startup?
    An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

    “Instead Stuart continues to completely self-fund and grow the brand, launching two more gins this month.”
    House of Elrick has now launched a crowdfunding campaign, which aims to raise £350,000 (US$490,000) before the end of March.

Tej saying I like it but it’s too risky at this stage so I won’t invest.. by definition an investment has risks, this is often his reason for the high percentage. Deborah has rearranged valuation she didn’t agree with before by asking for a higher percentage. It really boils down to do they like it and want to invest or not?

    Peter invests £80k for everything.

    • @alvinjoint
      @alvinjoint 4 года назад +3

      First things first: Dragons aren't generally investing for the distant future because of many factors increasing risk. This means that entrepreneur rather goes to offer his current company's worth with nice bonus of future growth premise. If the dragons are not seeing some immediate movement and traffic nearby in his business then they have to review his current business evaluation against his business's current progress.
      He offered 6% for ₤80.000, that means that 100% is ₤1.3M (Deborah's say). In another words he's got not much to offer right now and wants inappropriately too much money (his evaluation is too high for now).
      I think that they have a rule there that entrepreneur must get no less money than the amount he came for .
      /at last I have NEVER seen it happen otherwise/
      So dragons would have to ask for more equity in his business in order to match value represented by ₤80.000. I think that him being on early start of this journey and not having any spare time to focus on business has led the dragons to withdraw their investments. I think Jenny being gin lover really liked the business. (There are fast methods to estimate business's worth and one of them is called Times Earnings, you multiply net profit by number from 5-10 with 5 being slow and high risk business with low market space... if she used 5, with net profit of ₤122.000 it would get her the business value of ₤610.000 and ₤80.000 is roughly 13% of that) so I like to think that she really liked the product this time and wanted to go there but with smallest risk possible.
