Very nice video, so much details on something one could consider a "minor thing." Speaking of Austro-Prussian war, would you mind making a video one day about the "Dreyse rifle" supperiority in the war myth? Many today believe that the rifle was the major reason why Prussia was victourious in the war, though when you check some more detailed sources you will find out that it's a strong oversimplification and pretty much a myth. However, since the war does not get many attention in schools (since in the wars of German unification it was in the middle and did not directly cause the German unification and so from teacher's perspective it might be considered less important, though I would disagree with that) and so even here the "needle gun supperiority" myth is thought as a simplification of the overall subject.
Wow, I learned so much from this video on Liechtenstein! It's amazing how such a small country has such a rich and complex history. If you're interested in learning more about Liechtenstein, I highly recommend the book 'A Journey Through Liechtenstein's Fascinating History' by Lea Marie Nigg. @Sen as an italian I think so too. That soldier was probably from Naples so it was very easy for them to make him a friend because people from Naples are very friendly, he probably also offered to go to Liechtenstein to cook a pizza for them
Ok, it might be very unlikely that they made a random Italian (or local Tyrolian or whatever) friend who came back with them (aside from that Austrian officer) but are we absolutely sure it didn't actually happen? ;)
I see what you're doing sire and I am going to have to stop it :D News articles from the day of their arrival only mention the two Liechtenstein secretaries and the Austrian. Thank you so much for making this video now I can just send this to people on r/historymemes that constantly say liechtenstein gained a soldier in a war.
im wondering did the Lichtenstein army have any military actions on the italian front. you said their were defending some valley but did they actually repell anything?
No. They basically just camped out in the mountain pass pointed out in the video. They did see a contingent of Italian soldiers on the other side of the pass but nothing happened.
No the Italians didn't want to attack a guarded mountain pass. Even with 80 men mountain passes can be easily defended. So they just guarded the other side of the pass in case the Liechtensteiners decided to invade Italy for some reason.
Now I just can’t stop thinking about the two soldiers that stayed behind. What were they up to while the others were gone? I mean they were supposed to guard the barracks but my head cannon is that they just took a pair of chairs sat down and used the day to drink, sleep, chill and philosophize about war and life. And than the others came back and the commander surprised them.

Leichtenstein didn't just have close ties to Austria, the princely family lived in Vienna full-time until World War One. The country is essentially a rump state of the Holy Roman Empire. The family, which took its name from a castle in Germany they still own, produced a number of imp[ortant supporters and advisors to the Habsburg emperors, but none of the titles they acquired allowed them to sit in the Imperial legislature, the Diet, which was reserved for states that had no other overlord but the emperor, which was considered equivalent to sovereignty.
Good points, maybe someday I'll get around to explaining the Austro-Prussian war but at the moment I have other topics on the list.
Very educational. Thank you
Wow, I learned so much from this video on Liechtenstein! It's amazing how such a small country has such a rich and complex history. If you're interested in learning more about Liechtenstein, I highly recommend the book
'A Journey Through Liechtenstein's Fascinating History' by Lea Marie Nigg.
It's a beautiful and informative book that offers a unique perspective on Liechtenstein's history
Wow, this video is amazing. I can tell that you actually care about getting the facts right, and are not afraid to correct yourself where you made minor mistakes in your comment.
This is a very nice & well-put together video. I leared something. You have a new sub, good sir.
I'd like to think that they did really got a friend from the war, even if it's fake or not
@Sen as an italian I think so too. That soldier was probably from Naples so it was very easy for them to make him a friend because people from Naples are very friendly, he probably also offered to go to Liechtenstein to cook a pizza for them
Lol
oh damn, that "Was wollen wir trinken" cover is amazing
Ok, it might be very unlikely that they made a random Italian (or local Tyrolian or whatever) friend who came back with them (aside from that Austrian officer) but are we absolutely sure it didn't actually happen? ;)
I see what you're doing sire and I am going to have to stop it :D
News articles from the day of their arrival only mention the two Liechtenstein secretaries and the Austrian. I feel like if they suddenly showed up with someone else it would have been mentioned specially since all the other extra people where mentioned.
@@MLaserHistory Well ok... :D
@@MLaserHistory maybe one of the Lichtensteiners came back pregnant, and so while not technically arriving into the state on their own feet, there was a +1? Or what if there was one of those alien spawns inside a soldier like the movie Aliens? Maybe the newspapers of the day used #FakeNews because of their anti-Trump agenda to suppress how he got a Italian to join the Lichtenstein army. Have you really looked into every possiblity? Hmmmm?
@@whydoineedaname11 😂
@@whydoineedaname11 Men don't get pregnant .
Austria did the request forces strat from hoi4 XD
"...really felt like dying in a war would be a pleasant experience." You, sir, have earned a subscriber.
San Marino also has negative casualties during WW I. They send some volunteers to help Italian army and return with one more friend.
When you play 10X mod on hoi4 and add field hospitals.
I like a lot this kind of short videos with fun facts of the history
Yes Not like 6 Hours documentry
I do like that the song in the background is an instrumental version of the song "was solen wir trinken?". I approve.
Not quite - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_ar_chistr
Liechtenstein is just like an oversimplified quote
“Eyyyy cousin Antonio is that you”
"This is my friend Tony, he's pretty cool. 😎 he's not always so smart though, he followed us home".
So...as a historian my day has been technically ruined.
Thank you so much for making this video now I can just send this to people on r/historymemes that constantly say liechtenstein gained a soldier in a war.
This background song as well heared at 2:45 is actually a dutch partysong: wat zullen we drinken. Lol
im now singing what shall we drink now, cause the background music is exactly that
im wondering did the Lichtenstein army have any military actions on the italian front. you said their were defending some valley but did they actually repell anything?
No. They basically just camped out in the mountain pass pointed out in the video. They did see a contingent of Italian soldiers on the other side of the pass but nothing happened.
M. Laser History nothing happened? So did the Italians see them and turn around?
No the Italians didn't want to attack a guarded mountain pass. Even with 80 men mountain passes can be easily defended. So they just guarded the other side of the pass in case the Liechtensteiners decided to invade Italy for some reason.
@@MLaserHistory imgine the lichtensteiners would have invaded , we would have the lichtensteinian empire today ...
Imagine if Liechtenstein split back into two countries and reformed the Holy Roman Empire.
People: Are we at war?
Liechtenstein: Well yes but technically no
Thanks for the clear up I like history and I believed this for a little bit
You are a very kind youtuber... kind of
It’s kinda cool to see these small moments in history
Now I just can’t stop thinking about the two soldiers that stayed behind. What were they up to while the others were gone? I mean they were supposed to guard the barracks but my head cannon is that they just took a pair of chairs sat down and used the day to drink, sleep, chill and philosophize about war and life. And than the others came back and the commander surprised them.
Can you do an "well, acktshually" for that viking saga where a viking asks for his executioneer to hold his hair and then pulls his head, making the guy lose his hand?
This is cool channel! I subscribe!
this was one of my favourite stories to read about. They went for an adventure and made an extra friend on the way.
That's how war should be
thx it helped with my project.
thank you major laser, very cool
Somebody please tell me the song in the background at 1:25. I have heard this before, I think it's some sort of medieval remake of a song.
Liechtenstein, the country that finally understood that the real treasure are the friends we made a long that way
I don’t enjoy incomplete information, but I can’t find anything better to watch, either.
I never heard that it was an Italian, only knew that one extra guy returned.
Liechtenstein didn't get a crown on it's flag until 1937
Interesting. Thank you.
They brought one Italian chef so that they can eat pizza everyday in Lichtenstein
2:27 In 1866 Veneto was a Part of Austria, so why not in this Clip ?

Lichtenstein:
STONKS
I learned something unexpected from this video . . . contrary to my previous beliefs, it *IS* possible for a piece of trivia to be so trivial as to be completely uninteresting.
@@davesmith3023 I gotta tell ya . . . I'm not Canadian and I've never seen a lacross game (match?) but I'd find your example a bit more interesting than this. I realize now it wasn't just the subject, it was the level of detail related and the time it took to relate it. Yep, I'd rather have been told about some Canucks running around on a frozen field.
They had a necromancer. That's how they gained a soldier. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
A very special and fascinating part of history 👏
To this day, Liechtenstein has the world’s smallest army, consisting of only one soldier.
What is the music in the background called? Especially around 1:30
The maps you use in your videos are absolutely beautiful. They show the geography so well and are incredibly detailed. Do you maka them yourself or do they come from somewhere? If the latter, where do you get them?
I make them my self so they look a bit more like they're on paper but I get the physical geographic data from here.

as an italian I am proud of my fellow coutryman that managed not only to not get shot, but managed to get a job too!
Apparently you can rent Lichtenstein for $70,000 for 3 days, and have full power.
If true I should make that one of my Patreon goals.
M. Laser History it’s one of my life goals. I hear it’s very hard to do though. I think you also have to do a ton of paperwork
Oh well I taught “Lichtenstein” this one dude there ...
Hey I’m a bit late but can you put your sources in the description? Thanks :)
check out the video script on Patreon, he has notes and sources all written out in there, you do not have to be a patron to download them.
Is this bardcore Scooter in the background?
High quality content
Where did you find the acoustic/instrumental for Was wollen wir trinken?
It's not Was wollen wir trinken actually. They took the melody form here -en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_ar_chistr
As for the song it's from here- ruclips.net/video/Kj1_p8ad2Ms/видео.html
@@MLaserHistory Thank you :)
Son ar chistr / Zeven dagen lang background music? :D
Eventually they were able to buy the County of Vaduz and the Lordship of Shellenberg, which were both sovereign, and the emperor combined them and made the head of the family a Prince of the Holy Roman Empire.
