15:50 basically she became completely deaf in one ear, that's why she removed one of her ear piece Also I hate kawai (white haired girl) more than ueno. Ueno was rude but at least she wasn't two faced pretending to be innocent
Exactly i literally skip her scene every single time i rewatch this movie because of how disgusting Kawai is, that charachter does not even have any charachter Arc she is as disgusting as a person could be.
The ending always give me chills when he finally 'open' his eyes and see people for they are. His acceptance of his past and changes just wow. Thanks for the amazing reaction Tsuki
I feel like I have a hot take on Ueno. I don’t hate her as much as everyone else does because I see the struggle within her. She wants to be loved, she wants to have friends, but she’s externalized that desire as being a bully and rude. When she sees how Shoya has changed and befriended Shoko, she realizes just how awful she was before, but doesn’t know how to change and is afraid of becoming someone new. And she’s not necessarily a bad person. We see this in the fact that she visits Shoya every day while he’s in the hospital despite his being angry at her and her willingness to learn sign language. Maybe I’m reading too far into it, but that’s my interpretation of her character. If nothing else, I can at least give her credit for showing a willingness to change by the end of the movie.
She definitely had a character arc unlike Kawai, she's probably the most deplorable of the group, the silent bully. and she had no character arc at all.
For me it hit harder in dub. Mainly because they actually used a deaf girl for her voice. Also when she says I hate myself on the ferris wheel, felt like such a gut punch compared to sub.
Saying 月綺麗だね (the moon is beautiful) in japanese is just another way to say “I love you” but not in the context of this movie 😂 Edit: Forgot to mention that the words “Moon” (月) and “like” (好き) are pretty much pronounced the same so it can be mistaken very easily (Tsuki for moon and suki for like or love, not literally the word love)
Just to mention, the anime didn't do a very good job with portraying Ueno. In the manga Ueno is still a very problematic character there, but one you can understand and empathise with to some degree. Even though I really like the anime, I enjoyed the additional context and nuance that the manga provided, can definitely recommend a read. P.S. "suki" -> "like" (often used as "i like you") "tsuki" -> "the moon"
Reading the manga elevates Ueno but it also makes a bunch more characters just down right terrible. Mashima is a literal sociopath in the manga. Kawai still has no development and Nagatsuka is creepily obsessive. While it makes them more interesting, the manga made me hate a bunch of characters I was neutral towards and made Ueno, a character I was on the fence about a really good character. I really like Kazuki in the manga too. Overall though, I prefer the anime significantly more, but I do wish some of Kazuki's scenes made it in. Kazuki shows so much character in the small 3 to 4 panels he is in post timeskip
Very good points. It's been a while, but yea, the scene where Mashiba hits Ishida... wtf. (Though I kinda like where he went against the teacher). But overall I probably also enjoy the Anjme more (read the manga once, seen countless reactions to the anime). ... That bonus panel tho, where Yuzu is tutoring Shoko with speech... And every word sounds similar to "suki" 😂
@marcusprinz1163 the punch from Mashima sealed the deal for me that I hated that character. He's a hypocrite. He wants to be a teacher so he can watch over how his bully's kids fail. Even if he stands up to the teacher, his mindset is no better. And then he goes "kids are his most favorite thing in the world" with that mindset? Bruh is most definitely serving jail in the future. The author said she tried using Mashima to connect everyone, yeah that clearly didn't happen

Not enough people react to this one. It's definitely up there with Your Name and A Silent Voice but it often gets overlooked.
If you do, don't forget to watch to the after-credits
bro you tryna kill this poor woman

the mom riped off his moms ear ring to sell and thats why his mom was bleeding

6:50 She is his older sister. It is blood. Nishimiya's mom do it to her since the same occurs with her daughter.

Actually the sub was better and more impactful for me compared to dub
