Her character had the most range of emotions. Humor, fierceness, compassion, swagger, triumphs, despairs and she looked stunningly powerful throughout.
Lashana, Thuso, Viola gave such an amazing performance. In fact the whole cast was great. I saw it today and I'm going back to see it at least twice over with different girls. So powerful!
People complaining about the movie obviously havent watched it yet. The slave trade was highlighted multiple times throughout the movie. Also this film is in theaters not the history channel. 99% of the movies in theaters are fictional. Stop complaining and enjoy the movie for what it is.
They claimed it was based on true events. It was not. In reality, the war itself was fought so they could keep having slaves. That "way of life" the white man was trying to rob these strong powerful queens of was slavery. They thankfully eventually lost and were destroyed in war and stopped capturing and selling slaves.

This movie moved me in a way that's never been done before. Well, here's THE Truth... The Kingdom of Dahomey was a strong African military power that attacked and imperialized its African neighbors. It captured and enslaved the men, women, and children to enhance its wealth and luxuries. It brutally tortured and murdered some slaves, while others, it willingly sold to Europeans in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Whatever slaves weren't sold or executed worked on the Dahomey Kingdom's royal plantations in Africa. They fought an enemy determined to destroy their way of life. "Some things are worth fighting for..." Their way of life being enslaving others and partaking in mass human sacrifice. If you're black in America there's a good chance these were the people who captured and sold your ancestors.
@@CincinnatusPublish how very interesting and complex that you can come from these fierce warriors but you could also come from those they enslaved and sold to the Americas.
You’re really going to ignore the fact that the Dahomey people that the movies is portraying were literally slave traders? The whole reason they were blockaded in the first place was because the British were trying to put a stop to their slave trade. The French came and wrecked them to force them to stop trading slaves. You idiots are supporting a movie likes this? SMH

I knew nothing about this tribe and after I saw the different scenes I had to look up the history and everything. We can’t expect to be spoon fed everything. I think we just need to enjoy the movie as a fictional with a bit of a true story behind it.
I mean... I don't think I have ever seen such an amazing movie. All of them were excellent in this movie but definately Lashana (in the white) could have very well been the best supporting actress...
She really was. Her character was so epic. Her acting was flawless
The best movie I watched in a decade. The story, the casts, black history, black women doing the unthinkable? So emotional, didn’t know when I teared up 😢
Izogie inspired me to get nails like hers lol. I loved her character and all the women in this movie. One of the greatest movies that I have seen in a long time!
Congratulations Mrs. Viola Davis, Mrs. Gina Prince-Bythewood and cast. I so appreciate how you all humanized your character by bringing your character to life. That was the buy-in for me.
This movie moved me in a way that's never been done before. There have been movies where we as "Black" folk have seemingly triumphed, but superficially, and at a compromise that weighed as much as the victory. This movie though...none of that existed! We, and I mean our men and women, triumphed. Period.
And now go read the wilipedia page about ur '' hero''
I love how Viola Is so humble even with so much Intelligence and Beauty and Fierceness ❤
We couldn't stop clapping hands at the theater in Gateway ( Durban)🇿🇦 everytime we saw Thuso.🌹✨& my favorite actress Viola just made everything tearful and great❤️
The Woman King is such a great movie. Please go and see it . The entire cast did a wonderful job. I laughed, I cried. I love the movie.
The actress in that green two piece in the back row is giving me high fashion model-esque vibe.
She has modeled for Bottega before
Interviewer Saying Thuso's Name correctly is everything for me
I have seen it twice now - on the regular screen and then on GTX.... WOW. You ladies, and gentleman, were unbelieveable!!! I loved every moment.
When you all rose up from the grass, I was beautifully mesmerized. Thank you for fighting to make this movie
Ohhh I just peeped that they cut a kiss scene out the movie between Malik and Thuso's character. It's okay though because, even without the PDA, it was still self-explanatory that they did the DO.
The level of professionalism that this interviewer showed is impressive. She knew her stuff. What a great job!
This movie was awesome!!! I’m Mexican and freakin loved it ! The acting incredible, funny , tear jerking and the main characters awesome !! And the woman king one of my favorite actresses !! I’m gonna buy this ! I already went twice to the theatre to see it 😃👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
It’s so good that I watch this movie everyday. Now it’s my fall asleep movie bell I’m watching it now lol
This was a great interview! Props to the interviewer and cast members!
This interviewer was amazing. She made everyone seem comfortable. I felt like I was in a room with family. Everyone was so open and loose. The Woman King was spectacular! I could watch it over and over again. Well done to the whole cast and crew.
If there is such a thing as a negative comment about this movie it is that it was over waaaaay to fast.
Excellent job cast and to all those involved. So glad... and proud to have seen it in my life time. Thanks for bringing and aspect of history that I never knew to my attention. Forever grateful. ♥️
The way they even changed their accent to a pure African accent is amazing. In fact I am not into movies but this movie has really inspired me
I am going to see this movie again!!! I was so engrossed with these POWERFUL, BEAUTIFUL FREAKING AWESOME CAST. I cried, screamed, made the sound of them, my heart swelled with them. I loved this movie. We are powerful. BLACK WOMEN RULE. BLACK WOMEN MAGIC!!!!!!!
Well they are blood thirsty, genocidal maniacs that enslaved and slaughtered more people than there are fish in the ocean.....
Excellent movie. Viola, Thuso, Lashawna, Sheila, John did excellent acting. The interviewer Jacqueline asks such good questions. I didn't want Izoge to die ,Lashawna did so good
I give 10 thumbs up. The cast was phenomenal in this interview and the trailer was awesome good jobs ladies
This movie was full of action and dramatic acting and Ioved every minute! The movie theater laughed clapped and yelled though out. Definitely dope!!!!!
Just a shame that it's all built on a lie. These women were slave traders. It's disgusting.
I was happy and nervous the whole time. I loved it.
Fr, every time one of the main characters killed someone everyone would clap lol
Especially the bit where they changed history to suit a black agenda and ignored the fact the dahomey were some of the worst people in history who profited from selling their own people into slavery....stunning and brave...definitely dope.
Loved, loved, loved this movie! Been a long time since I've clapped in a theatre after seeing a movie, but I sure clapped after this one!
trash
You clapped for slave traders? 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😅😆
me too! I had to stand up
@@rondapierce6215 You stood up for people being put into slavery? That made you happy?
@@annabrown5712 Yes they clapped and stood up for Slaves and it made them happy, do you have a problem with the way they felt? Because I think we both know why they were emotional.
The interviewer, fan girling over all of them is so cute😍😍😊...Very beautiful interview ❤
I went through all the emotions in this movie. Loved it!
I haven't seen the movie yet - I plan to!!! What I'm presently feeling is delight for the interviewer. What an incredible depth of knowledge, skill, and personality! Thank you for inspiring me to love film journalism again. I'm a person who still reads old reviews from Siskel & Ebert. Girl, you are the best at what you do. Hope to see you do reviews, interviews, 1:1s, everythang ❤️
THIS interview is ALL THE THINGS!!! Whew! The love, the joy, the reverence….wow ❤
Viola's face when she mentioned that Oscar trophy is killing me.
This movie is so good! I have seen it twice and want to see it again. To anyone that say this movie is not good. They do not know what a good movie is. Point blank!
Best movie ever!!! I had goosebumps the etnire time!!! Lashana Lynch was just WONDERFUL in it...
I wish Shelia would’ve gotten a better question :/ , Viola is legendary but we have to highlight each individual bc she was BADASS in this movie.
This is the best movie EVER, EVER. Everyone needs to see this movie. The untold story of our women in our history is soooo important to all of us. Strong, smart and courageous women who need to be applauded for our place in history. Thank you Ms. Viola for your vision and truth. I’m going to bring all my family to see this movie. My husband and I saw it today but I must help to enlighten others to the truth as it relates to our history. Thank you, thank you, thank you - I give you a standing ovation. ❤❤❤❤
"Some things are worth fighting for..."
Their way of life being enslaving others and partaking in mass human sacrifice. If you're black in America there's a good chance these were the people who captured and sold your ancestors.
It is incredible
@@CincinnatusPublish how very interesting and complex that you can come from these fierce warriors but you could also come from those they enslaved and sold to the Americas.
Yes. In the movie the current king was against the slavery trade like mention in the movie by the king
SMH
Great interview! The interviewer was just as amazing as the cast! Loved it!
I just came back from seeing this movie minutes ago, and i want to see it again. I want to re visit the pain and emotion it brought. I love the loyalty.
Jacqueline Coley; you are amazing! i watch many interviews , but here i felt like i was there in that room , it felt like a conversation, fun, intersecting, deep and mostly real. That's just a gift you have
Humanity - complex, strong and beautiful = our sisterhood! Love the synergy and the way this film made me standup proud of the casts stellar body of this work. Well done!
I wanted the interview to keep going! Great job by Jacqueline as usual 🖤🖤
This movie is an actual definition of real art. It's emotion packed and the best of its kind.
💯
I was engaged from the 1st scene. i felt empowered as a black women. all the women touched me! I also understood why some movie awards were not given. there is no substitute for the TRUTH.
@@joebrewer4529 at that is why people have their own opinions. Great for you!
This movie was incredibly powerful and well executed!!! ❤️🖤💚👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Trash
it was a lie ..they bought and traded their own .and others to ..Africa sold the slaves to the ships and one of the very first slave owners in America ..in the south waS black...and NYC had a slave market to ..not just us southerners ...the slaves came in on Northern vessels ... It's a powerful lie ..like satan is ..a liar
You know True Story about the female african warriors is The female warriors what's good in the art of Slave business.
Excellent interviewer, interview & movie. 💫 I really want to emphasis how great & natural the interviewer is. The questions were well-thought out, she listened AND allowed the cast to finish their sentences & thoughts. A pleasure to watch.
When I saw the trailer earlier this year I knew I had to see this film and support the cast. Seeing this beautiful cast on screen helped me overcome my fear of being in theaters post Covid. I may treat myself and see the film again 👏🏾👏🏾
Viola's outfit😊. Love from Nigeria 🇳🇬
Watching this movie for the first time and goddamn I'm thrilled to my deepest.
I can't imagine why it was like back then but I'm glad civilization and equality has changed so much.
My aunt stays in Oyo and I spend Christmas holidays there ever since I was a kid. Watching this movie as a Nigerian feels different cause I had to learn my country's history from a Hollywood franchise.
I'll definitely see this film again.
Love it 🇳🇬
Their wardrobe is always coordinated. Love it!
It is so good to see Izogi again😂❤
The conversation is so advanced and demonstrative of people that see their work and chosen profession as life altering art. Bravo, for the responses yo the questions.
Just saw it tonight! Amazing! Definitely gonna go back and watch again!
Yaaas sister! That slay queen fighting to protect her slavery business was amazing 🤩
@@FitGuyAZ577 u haven't watched it so shut up
Wow, such an amazing cast and interview! I must admit my favorite character in the movie was played by Lashana Lynch. When she put her in place after her arm got broken and passed that spear test…I was like this girl is bad.
