Ya know sometimes I used to feel like Angela was kinda shallow during interviews but kudos to her for consistently reading the books before the authors come on, watching the movies, knowing their backgrounds. ONLY Angela does this on this show.
100% you are right
Totally. She's the only one that prepares for interviews.
Only person I feel is never prepared for the interview is Envy
She always does her research!
@@dirtyredd217 Yeah, it shows too! He gets by with the introduction/opening question and closing. I'm not too sure if he knows much about Black culture/history just by his comments and questions. Like Charlemagne, he asks great social/racial questions.
I love how Viola keeps bringing Thuso in, she is an amazing woman. I’m so proud of Thuso Mbedu, she is wise beyond her years and is a huge inspiration, she has a Voice and Is a Force to be reckoned with. God is definitely doing great things through these amazing Women❤
Yes, very selfless of her. Allowing her shine. Beautiful
bt she must nt sound american n know her roots
I love how she always brings her in 2 maarn I'm sooo happy 4 Thuso😍🎉🎉
She has a mentor spirit and has no problem reaching back to uplift others. She's a vet in the game; it's admiral that she is grounded enough to want to build up the younger generation of actors.
A voice and a force to be reckoned with, I love that ❤ heard it on different world and always kept it
I saw this movie twice already. I took my niece the first time and my 75yr old father the second time. It’s definitely more of an event than a movie. It is an amazing movie. The whole cast was beautiful and amazing. Viola Davis!!!!!!! Absolutely beautiful ❤️
Nahh This Woman King Movie is a huge RED FLAG !!
That movie is a big shame to the black culture , They twisted and lied a lot about the truth and historical facts about the Evil slave catchers tribe !
Whats more crazier is that the directors and writers are 2 jewish Feminist women who are using Entertainment to try trick black people and especially BlacK Women with the black female actors while pushing their Woke Feminist AnTI Men Agenda!!!
They made the bad guys look good and its clear to see their propoganda!
I will never encourage people to go see this wack fake dumb Movie and im very dissapointed in Viola davis for selling us this brainwashed hollywood Trash .
I’ve seen it twice too and the audience clapped both times.
In the two times did you know that the story isn’t historically accurate
@@Kmanjr0 yes. It’s Hollywood. I never saw it as a documentary.
@@Kmanjr0 If you want African stories, they would have to be Hollywood-ized because nothing we did is worth glorifying. Even Shaka Zulu murdered his own people before they turned on him.
As Zambian 🇿🇲🇿🇲 I went to see it and loved every second of it.. the cinema was packed and the audience stood to clap 👏 👏 . This is a testament that powerful stories cut across borders and cultures to deliver a message 👏 👌 🙌
Even if the story is a complete fabrication and glorifies one of the most brutal slave trading tribes in Africa
I am DAHOMEY!!!
For those who don’t know Dahomey is present day Benin West Africa. The name changed after we got colonized by the French. If you travel to Benin today, you can go to a part of the country called “ABOMEY” and the kings palace is still there. It is now a touristic place. It is very important for us as blacks to know our history. I know this because i was born and raised there. It’s wild to me that people especially our people never heard of this or that this was never taught. Stay blessed folks✊🏿
Your history is not necessarily u.s. Black history. Your ancestors enslaved & sold our ancestors. I'm sure you know this already though. You've probably seen one of the many Doors/Gates of No Return. This movie & its history is nothing to be proud of.
why did lupita nyong'o cry when she researched the Dahomey? should she not have been empowered?
It's not a surprise African never teach their history even in school they still work towards the British European standard of education leaving out African history
they sold ur people
Such good info, especially to know its still there... hidden in plain sight under a different name. Thank you for sharing, I'm adding it to my "Must Do" list. 🥰
Thuso has found an international mom in viola and it's beautiful to witness ❤️
It's vibe amongst black women
I agree and I love it for her. When she lost her grandma I was so heartbroken because that was literally the only parent she was left with on this earth. Her life is a testimony that when God takes away something from you he always gives you something else. She has mommy Viola now. She deserves all these good things happening for her right now ❤❤.
I thought so too..they even look slightly alike..kindred spirits
The Woman King shattered any expectation I had. It’s truly a gift of a film that should be seen by all of us! Loved this interview too.
Look up the actual history of this tribe and not the Hollywood version they themselves were SLAVE OWNERS and sold Africans the reason they were killed was because they refused to give up their slaves after the entire world had already done so.
To bad the tribe they portrayed actually profitted from selling off their fellow Africans.
A movie about evil slave masters who fought to keep slavery going. But Viola changed the plot Lol
I too would love to see a movie about people who enslave and sell their own people. Buying my tickets now. #makeDahomiSlavesAgain
Nah
Aww man!! That was a perfect way to end the interview with what Viola said about her daughter. I felt so proud to share this experience with my mother and I felt so empowered by what I can go on to accomplish as a performing artist myself, as I pivoted (away) from live performances and film since the start of the pandemic. Shoutout to these black women!! They’re so fierce; so powerful and so much MORE than enough in this world 💪🏾 👑 ❤!!
I already know Charla gone “Black Queen” “Black Royalty” and “My therapist said” this interview through the roof 😂😂😂😂😂

And right after Envy will ask a question “for those who do not know…” 😂😂😂.

Saw it 3 times. As A Black Woman And Student of African Studies, I was deeply impressed with all the actors. I support you all, my beautiful sisters. Love you all!❤
If your are a student of African studies, then you should research the real story of this tribe. They aren't to be glorified. It would be like trying to glorify nazis.
Viola's speaking voice gives me chills.
👀👀👀👀👀
She's talking from the heart, I feel it too
If you ever flew Delta she did their commercials. I love hearing her voice. Very strong diction, annunciation, and strength in her voice.
Yes!!! Same!
I was just thinking that exact same thing. Although she is a "classically" trained actor, Viola Davis was born to do this.
Thuso at 39:00 whatever your purpose is - the resistance doesn’t mean you're not supposed to do it but you’re supposed to fight through it- there will be scars but it’s part of the journey

Black women from the different diaspora coming together… powerful, gave me goosebumps ❤
Yup. Powerful enough to behead the elderly and steal children for slave trading.

We should care. I'm East African but it makes me so sad to know that these beautiful women who were powerful but used that power so wrongly and sold their own people into slavery. I don't think I can watch this movie.
Fantastic interview! I am very proud of my Afro-American heritage. I adore my ancestral African heritage, I revere my Afro heritage. Black Americans are phenomenal. We created a robust culture and language here in America that is often ignored. We warred for well over 300 years for our freedom. We resisted behind enemy lines. Afro-Black and proud. Thank you for an excellent interview.
You do know the Dahomey tribe were BIG-TIME slave-traders ??? No better than the slave catchers in america during the 1800s.The Dahomey were TRASH.In my opinion.
Perhaps you ancestors warred with the Dahomey warrior women? They were big time brutal slave traders.

A movie about slave traders is amazing? 😂😂😂
Man when they touched on "African Americans" searching for something that's missing because our history and lineage was taken away pretty much I felt that. What hurts most, being the most hated group in the world. We are re-victimized over and over again. Turned the world on the victims as if we asked to be here. We are out here lost because we have no real connection to who we are
We love you in South Africa ❤️🇿🇦 Shameka. When you get home you are whatever you want to be. ZULU, XHOSA, SOTHO.. etc bcoz you are part of us ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇿🇦
This movie is compeltly false though lol. They actually fought the british army because the British were ending slavery and the Africans did not want to end slavery as that's what they built Their empire off of. This kingdom was built off enslaving thier neighbors.

Either way such a great movie for a multitude of reasons! Great job ladies! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 🇭🇹
Woman King had me on the edge of my movie theater seat, like literally. I was so engrossed in what was happening on the screen. I’m also so moved by the history that was not shared, on purpose and I see why! You can’t hold a people down by telling them the full truth about themselves and sadly because of our relationship with this country and colonizers we drank the kool aid, forcibly and then habitually. Have seen this movie FOUR times this weekend (with friends, family, by myself). Hands down one of my favorite movies of all times, cried and laughed every time! Action scenes are out of this world!
Damn right!!!!❤This film was PHEN-OM-ENAL!
Getting African Americans to applaud a kingdom that sold 1 million Africans into slavery and slaughtered millions more, including the last slaves sent to the US, is a work of genius.
Black people, men and women you need to go do unbiased research on this movie for it is a total Farce! The movie was written and produced by mostly whyte Liberal women, they changed the name of the tribe, the kingdom and it's total history to appease a certain demographic for they know black people will contribute to it's success not being intelligent enough to do your own research! The small West African country is currently called the Republic of Benin, at the time these women warriors fought it was called the Kingdom of Dahomey. Dahomey was actually the biggest SLAVE trading kingdom in all of Africa, the warrior women are known as the Dahomey Amazons, they were brutal, could Never marry, never have kids, never have sex unless it was with the King! They practiced fighting techniques all day and all night, They were formed for there was not enough male warriors to fight for they had lost thousands in previous battles, they were also formed to protect the king, his personal bodyguards. So although they did exist and were a formidable force, their primary job was raiding other tribes, mutilating them, and enslaving those that did not fight back and lived. It is estimated that around 60 to 75% of all slaves captured in the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade were enslaved by the Kingdom of Dahomey and sold to other countries including America, and the Dahomey Amazons played a major role in this. So remember as you watch this film and line the pockets of wealthy Liberal whyte women and star struck black women, the women warriors that your watching 7 times out of 10 were the ones that helped in the capture of your ancestors and is how they ended up here! These Liberals only wish to portray black women as savages, aggressive nature, no femininity, no children having, no husband having women (sounds just like todays BW and not by accident) helping to push their feminist agendas! Go do some damn research on the Dahomey Amazons Please!!
I am on my fourth go round this evening can't wait to see it again!!
Was it your favorite because they left out how willing they were to sell other Africans into slavery to the colonizers . They were willing participants
7 years of fighting to get a movie done really paid off I love every second I didn’t even take a bathroom break

Not candidly enough to admit her real historic character was a brutal slaver who beheaded slaves in front of the French.
The French were called in by local kingdoms to protect them from Dahomey slave raids. The movie is pretty much a reversal of historic facts.

I saw this beautiful movie today. Lord willing my son and I will see it on Thursday. Thank you for creating such an empowering movie. Despite life's hardships and obsticles we all have to face this movie co signs my already developed faith in God and my determination to fight for life, health, faith and courage. The entire cast was extraordinary! Mrs. Queen Viola Davis what a gem!
this was a dope convo, i'll go see it twice. Once for the support and the second time to soak in the details.
Thuso is always casted with Hollywood's A-Listers❤️❤️❤️
Cos she’s an A Lister herself! 💃🏽😂She deserves it. Those who know, know ✊🏾
Thuso Mbedu, This is your time to shine. Arise and Shine Sisi, You are deserving and you are able. God has given you divine ability ❤
That's a blessing for her. She got one and nailed it and the doors are wide open for her.
Yo I want that 3 1/2 hour copy! This movie was phenomenal. I left wanting to see more!
I agree. The DVD should have the longer version as a option too.
OMG I love Love and Basketball. What a pleasure to listen to the hard work and the art that these ladies have created together. I can't wait to go watch this weekend!
Love this interview it was great. Looking forward to seeing this film . Great show as always 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
This movie was soooo powerful. Tons of beautiful dark skin women. Just black women in a positive role not as a slave, drug user, and cleaning ladies. I love it and I'm going back to watch it again. It's that good.
How exactly is being a slave trader of your ancestors, a positive thing?
"Just black women in a positive role not as a slave" just slavers who sell melanated folk to europeans
Thanks for not listern to BS
Positive? I guess it didn’t tell the real story
All of this!!! Yeesss
Hunny I was in there “Leeleeleeleeleee” Acting up!! I had SO MUCH FUN!
Saw it on my day off and I loved it. I'm gonna have to see it again. The nuances in this story were handled so well and the fight choreography was brilliant.
Love this interview and the movie was beyond words! Proud to be able to have been able to experience it!
Thuso Mbedu you are a superstar love from SA!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful, inspiring, powerful interview! Can’t wait to see the movie 🖤✊🏾❤
Thank you Viola, Gina, Mbedu for teaching us a chapter in our African history that we did not know of. I saw it twice at the theater. Then two days ago I got the movie on Blu ray and have seen it 3 more times. Each time I see something different. To me that's the mark of a great movie. It's just so inspiring to see all that hard work and coordination. Fascinating, brilliant, very important movie.
Wow Thuso is such a gem South Africa is proud of you 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦. Viola Davis is a legend like no other.
ALL THAT DAMN BEAUTIFUL BLACKNESS🙌🏾🙌🏾. I FELT REALLY EMPOWERED AFTER WATCHING THIS MOVIE, LASHANA LYNCH WAS MY FAVORITE HANDS DOWN!!
Her transformation was unreal. Completely different from 007 movie.
Getting African Americans to applaud a kingdom that sold 1 million Africans into slavery and slaughtered millions more, including the last slaves sent to the US, is a work of genius.
Amazing film! Loved everything about it! Bravo to the ENTIRE cast!
I didnt
Thuso Mbedu she's a queen she thinks she is, keep on flaying SOUTH AFRICAN FLAG HIGH 🇿🇦🇿🇦♥️ AFRICA TO THE WORLD!!! ⚫⚪🫂
So thankful and in love with every conversation around this movie, cant wait to watch it and for more stories like that to be available to us
My 11 yo daughter and I absolutely LOVED this movie. I felt like I was there! I cried. I shouted. I clutched my chest. I shot darts with my eyes. I was thoroughly involved in this movie. Learned so much. Felt so much. Released so much. I am well. Asé
So slavery is cool again or na?
@@SuperBROKEN81 Yup. To the uneducated it sure seems like it is.
I guess there is a market that wants to make heros out of black African slave traders.
@SuperBROKEN81 @Justin R.
Your words are solely reactions. It would be more helpful to engage in discussion so you can respond rather than react. Our history must be told. The excellent, the good, not so good, the bad, and the ugly. This does include the enslavement of our own. Yes, this is wrong and was never celebrated in my response. From what was researched and recently released, the film didn't either.
"The slave trade is the reason we prosper, but at what price?" Davis' character Nanisca asks at the beginning of the film. Later, she offers up the idea to export palm oil to Europe and the U.S. instead of selling Dahomey's prisoners of war (and some of their own citizens) as slaves.
"Let us not be an empire that sells our people. Let us be an empire that loves its people," she tells King Ghezo.
Stevens says she centered "The Woman King" in 1823 because international slave trade had been outlawed by England at that point.
"There was plenty of slave trade going on illegally," she says. "But that puts the Dahomey and all the African nations in an interesting position where (they're) almost like a pawn."
Yeah, that last part.... Our history as well.
Peace and light....
The people who starred in it, were the ones meant to star in it. Love these strong and gifted sisters!❤❤❤
Not really the original woman to play the woman king declined the role because she didnt wanna glorify slave traders
Thank you so much for your words about persisting through any fight. I love it when the host asked how do you know it's time to give up and that was not even an option. It was also helpful to hear details about the behind the scenes challenges you each surmounted.
I saw this and loved it to pieces!!!❤❤❤❤
Loved this movie! Let’s build Thuso’s confidence on the microphone. We want to hear her thoughts and stories off the screen!
They should have made her come alone 😁 she's brilliant.
Lol, she good. She and other actors have been going HARD on promoting this movie, they tried of answering questions
Thuso was excellent promoting The Underground Railroad which played on Amazon Prime where she was the main character. She’s giving due respect to the heavyweights here. She’s very confident otherwise!
