They do that to distract you from the fact that they’re crappy cars.

I am really conflicted between buying a new 2023 Honda Odyssey Elite or a 2023 Pilot Elite. Originally, I was set on the Pilot, but when I went to a Honda dealership, I asked to see the new Odyssey because they had one on the lot. You really can't compare the amount of space and level of comfort you get with the Odyssey. I had my twelve year old sit in the third row of the Pilot, and he didn't have a ton of space. The third row is only going to be comfortable for smaller kids for daily use. The Pilot in general, is just much smaller all around. The Odyssey just offers a lot more, like the rear entertainment, and the ability to haul a lot more stuff and people comfortably. Minivans are not just for younger families with toddlers and babies. As your kids get older, you trade the cumbersome strollers and carseats for giant sports bags and heavy backpacks. Plus, kids want you to haul their friends around, and that becomes a challenge with most three row SUVs. You can't beat the minivan for longer road trips for overall space and comfort. I absolutely love the new Pilot, but I'm really tempted to buy an Odyssey. It's just a matter of getting past the uncool factor.
Marketing and profit margins are pushing oversized SUVs and pickup trucks on people. Minivans and station wagons offer much more room, more comfortable rides, more safety, and better fuel economy. I would like a little more towing capacity, but frankly, the number of times I'm hauling more than 3500 pounds is rare.

Very few people actually go off-road, especially often enough to warrant it being the family's primary vehicle. They certainly do make sense for people who frequently go on trails or haul large campers often, but those are in the minority of SUV buyers.

But to speak for myself I don't only like off-road but also out of nowhere, start to drive on hilly country roads of Oregon and visiting national parks on annual leaves is a thing for me. So a few hps more won't hurt :)
I own an Odyssey and have compared it to the Sienna. Ody wins on driving experience, overall visibility, brakes, and seats. Ody loses on engine since it may be the very last engine using a timing belt which requires a $1,200+ replacement every 60,000 to 90,000 miles. Sienna uses a timing chain which typically lasts the life of the car.
Great review. The Honda Odyssey Minivan is due for a full redesign if I'm not mistaken. The last redesign for the Honda Odyssey was in 2017 as a 2018 model year.
January 28th I bought a 2023 Odyssey in Obsidian blue, it was the only one in stock. I waited 4 months to get it and nobody had bought it yet. I was really lucky because there were people waning it and I got there just as they opened.
@@hillwood24 Same here. I was coming from a Prius and thought I wanted the Sienna. Prius kept giving me problem after problem and I had to sink another $4000 into it before I sold it. Found a 2018 Odyssey Touring last year with 55k miles. Test drove it and was really impressed. The effortlessness of the V6 is a huge plus. And I don't have the worry of the complex hybrid system. Plus, I've gotten 30 mpg on the highway with it. No regrets here. I'm also not sure why so many are saying this thing looks boring or aged. I really love how they look. And the LED lights on the Touring is gorgeous. I'd love to have a 10th gen Accord in the driveway with it too.
Where is my coolbox and a little hook for trash bag? I love my touring honda with convenience-focus interior designs. After 12 years, mine still drives interstate like a champ. Maybe it is time to replace timing bell since it's over 130k miles.
Minivans are the real luxury cars in terms of real interior comfort (if you’re not a badge whorre). And the Honda Odyssey’s and Toyota Sienna’s are among the best of them
Nice video. You talked about the 3.5 liter v6 but did not mention the cylinder deactivation system. I know this has been a problem on past Odysseys and wonder if the engine vibration and spark plug fouling and misfiring issues have been resolved.
Absolutely. First thing you do with one of these V6 Hondas is deactivate the VCM. Let all six cylinders run. Your engine and wallet will thank you by not eating spark plugs, cylinder walls, burning oil, etc.

I traded my 2016 Honda Odyssey Touring with a fully loaded 2023 Odyssey Elite. But I still like the 2016 Odyssey touring better. It had a water cooler where I could keep 4 16.9 OZ water bottles during summer to get ice cold water! There was a camera on the passenger side mirror, which was really nice. Also, there was a hard disk to store lot of music in the touring. I never had to worry about using other devices while playing music from the HD. They took all these features off of the 2023 Odyssey Elite!!! The worst feature is the power mirror folding option. You need to keep your car on and manually press a button to fold the mirrors!!! Another worse feature is, only one usb that supports Android Auto/Apple Carplay and usb music media. If you are using a usb to play music, you cannot use Android Auto/Apple Carplay and vise versa!!!!!!!!
My 2009 EX-L runs circle still around this design. No transmission issues for my model rust finally started. The front light indicator so low? Who can see that if a suv is driving n front of you? Fail on door jam middle air vents. Old ceiling ones were better for racing kids, gone is the mid floor hidden storage or and a truly flat back floor section after the seats are removed. Will hold on till this dies. 😂
No 360 view? The Pilot has that. It’s a deal breaker for me since where I live, parking is very tight. The sliding doors help a lot with that but you still have to consider the cars parked around you probably don’t have sliding doors
The touring trim audio sounds really bad in the third row and barely decent in the second row because the closest speakers are in the sliding doors just behind the front seats. The elite trim's additional speakers are the center channel above the second row (16:15 shows the touring trim's empty speaker grill surrounding the camera), the subwoofer in the back, and the two speakers behind the third row.
I already have a Honda 2012 and what would make it much better is to be lifted more that way it doesn't take damage from things as simple as potholes that the counties won't take time to fix and two things I wanted to add to it before it decided to break down on me is having a trailer hitch and cargo package on it that way you can carry family and friends around and still have a work vehicle also

Odyssey really needs a complete exterior remodel. It still looks 100% like a old school minivan, while others are trying to make it more sporty or suv ish.
I disagree. People that buy these products know what they are getting into. Adding any sporty pretensions to the exterior will just make it look goofy. What they need to do is redesign the interior. Having no ventilated seats is pretty gross. Especially in the Touring trim
Hondas are slow to add 360 cameras. In a van that is practically required For child safety. It would be nice if it offered an all wheel drive option. Very solid van overall.
Forgot to mention, if the rear screen is lowered, the backup mirror should convert to video since it becomes blocked by the screen. For reference, see Subaru Ascent top trims.
If you fold the 3rd row down you lose your trunk space. You should be able to take out the rear seats and put in a hard flat cover for the trunk. It should be an accessory.
I have a 2018 Elite Trim dealership running me down for it, however, no major changes in 2023 which is disappointing. Honda can do much better my 2012 model was the best😮😮😮
That's the model I still have ... when my husband and I first bought it ,it was the it van to have. It was loaded and so far ahead of its time that there having troubles upgrading...
Two things that you should consider if you are or caregiver to folks with mobility or back issue when buying/owning a modern minivan. #1 disembarking from the 3rd row might hurt one's knee regardless of how much space the 2nd row can yield. It is like descending from a tall step of stairs. So, 2nd row might be the way to go since you can slowly scoot off the seat with the grab handle. #2 the depth (both downward and inward dimension) for the trunk area might work against one's back as it is much lower than even the sedan load floor as all minivans are designed to fit their 3rd row completely into the trunk area. Obviously, vans are market towards potential buyers with children or youth so these are non issue. Maybe running board as an option like most full size suvs?
So the $44,000 dollar Odyssey, only has a 160W sound system? That’s a zonk for me. The touring model should get the same sound system as the elite. But still a great minivan by Honda!!👍🏾
"Lotta space" for a 5'9 munchkin. Front legroom - from driver's seat to pedals - is less than 40 inches so 6 foot+ drivers will find leg-room cramped (or impossible) on longer drives. You can remove middle seats more easy than backrows (why?!!) so tall folks can sit over the rear-wheels and suffer from motion-sickness. Too bad those windows don't roll down so those folks can barf outside, but all 3rd-row seats offer ample opportunities for car-sickness.
I'm just going to say it. Honda is probably making the ugliest car exteriors in the entire industry right now. So bland. So uninspiring. So boring. I didn't think a minivan could get any uglier 4:56
wonder if honda could make the ridgeline in the length of the odyssey instead of the pilot. they should use the same magic seats and make the cab big enough so the back seats can recline a bit. then they have 4 doors and a decent length bed.
You've probably made your decision by now, but I'm definitely going with the Odyssey over Pacifica. The Stow-and-Go seats are convenient, but sacrifice a lot of comfort for the rare times I need a fully open space but also don't have somewhere to put them temporarily. The Odyssey beats the Pacifica hands down in just about every other category, especially in reliability and resale for future trade in.
I have to say , this looks very plain and boring !! Its 2022 not 2015 :) New Toyota Siena will eat this thing for lunch! Common Honda , atleast bring Hybrids !!
Given even a “plain Odyssey” is back ordered by months to a better part of a year, and given continuing parts/chip shortages, it makes sense not to make major changes (which would require major retooling) until the supply chain is clear.
@@evoemperor3776 Nobody buying these to pretend to be in a race car. Gas mileage is where it's at and the Siena delivers far superior numbers, particularly in city driving where this 20 year old SOHC V6 will struggle to get 15mpg.
Yes, I agree that the inside is a little dated but I like that the 2nd row seats can be fully removed and the engine is a V6 whereas the Siena is not. However the Siena does get better gas milage with the hybrid. Basically it’s get better storage space or better milage.
The Siena is over styled lol. With those fake little vents next to the taillights just to make it look sporty 🤣🤣. You seen all the fake vents on the Supra? The new civic type R doesn't have fake vents and looks much better than its predecessor.
We have a 2022 sienna limited but I feel like the odyssey has a better interior and build quality the interior of the sienna creaks and rattles too much it gets annoying

It's got so many great features but kia includes heated steering wheel and wireless charging pad in the non elite version. It's crazy how Honda really makes sure to milk the customer with the elite version. Not only that but no hud or 360 camera
I actually rented a Honda Odyssey for a road trip vacation to Florida and it was fantastic. It super comfortable and practical and performed flawlessly. The wife and kids loved it. I would never own or buy a minivan but if you happen to have a slew of kids minivans make a whole lot more sense than SUVs in my opinion.
Its my luxury vehicle with the sliding side doors for easy loading and so roomy. It's also my truck as I can haul a lot! It's about the ease and comfort for me. This one isn't much different than my 2012 and yes the look is dated but really, its a van so I am okay it not being dreamy looking :) Its been easy to maintain and good on gas on trips. I never thought I would be a van person but I am hanging onto my Odyssey when I compare it to the SUVs I like.
Guys, nice review of a spacious but unimpressive minivan. Honda is downright negligent with features. No 360 camera, no headup display, no hybrid, no AWD, no full LED lighting, small entertainment/GPS display. That extra cost red paint is bland. When you were reviewing the 3rd row, why didn't you raise the headrest? Competition is leaving Honda way behind.
How long have minivans been around? How long have they started offering AWD? How did those vans do without AWD for so many years? Because AWD is overrated and is actually benefiting in only a small percentage of the time. Hybrid? Hybrid takes up space... That's why the Sienna has lowest in class cargo room. My 22 Carnival gets 28-29mpg on the highway. That's a V6... Not a 4 cylinder like Toyota. Yes... 35mpg is nice.... But at what cost? Loud... Sluggish acceleration.. lack of overall cargo? No thank you. Good luck with yours
Put a deposit down on a 2023 EX-L. Going next week to get it back. Honda no longer is a good value since the price gouging. Had an Odyssey for 13 years and planned on another 13 but I’m now too old to play money games for something with wheels.
We still have our 03 EX leather w 180K miles. Outside of brakes and tires, normal maintenance, nothing bad to report. I can get 10 sheets of 5/8 drywall, or 2 Lay-Z-Boy Recliners, or 7 people, or almost anything else in the van. Bluetooth? Nope. Rear camera? Nope. "rear entertainment w DVD w Cassette and CD Player" Yup. Every time I think it's time for it to go, someone in the family needs to move and it proves its worth once again. So, it's going to stay around until the trans finally goes. The engine will run forever.
I had my 2021 highlander for 6 months and I actually just traded it in for the sport odyssey. Odyssey is way better better traction and odyssey picks up better speed

Timing belt is a change at 105k. I agree it sucks, but I have heard of timing chains breaking on toyotas and ruining the engine.
I thought in 2018 all honda engines were switched over to timing chains and belts were done away with once and for all....?

Honda really needs to offer this vehicle in a hybrid and the gauge cluster looks a little outdated also.
The V6 power plant is what encouraged me to buy a 2023 Odyssey instead of the Sienna, which was gutless with the 4 cylinder hybrid.
I would use it for occasional home improvement and mostly commuting. Too low gas economy

@@danjoe22 even on the new ones. Honda does it, much like the auto stop start, for EPA brownie points. Disabling it makes the car last longer.

i have a 2016 EXL model white and to tell you the truth i like the body style of mine more than the newer one, but still very good car over all.
If Chrysler could get their shit together and make a transmission worth a damn, no other minican would come close to what they offer.
I have a 2018 Elite Trim dealership running me down for it, however, no major changes in 2023 which is disappointing.

That's the model I still have ... when my husband and I first bought it ,it was the it van to have. It was loaded and so far ahead of its time that there having troubles upgrading...
Two things that you should consider if you are or caregiver to folks with mobility or back issue when buying/owning a modern minivan.
#1 disembarking from the 3rd row might hurt one's knee regardless of how much space the 2nd row can yield. It is like descending from a tall step of stairs. So, 2nd row might be the way to go since you can slowly scoot off the seat with the grab handle.
#2 the depth (both downward and inward dimension) for the trunk area might work against one's back as it is much lower than even the sedan load floor as all minivans are designed to fit their 3rd row completely into the trunk area.
Obviously, vans are market towards potential buyers with children or youth so these are non issue. Maybe running board as an option like most full size suvs?
So the $44,000 dollar Odyssey, only has a 160W sound system? That’s a zonk for me. The touring model should get the same sound system as the elite. But still a great minivan by Honda!!👍🏾

"Lotta space" for a 5'9 munchkin. Front legroom - from driver's seat to pedals - is less than 40 inches so 6 foot+ drivers will find leg-room cramped (or impossible) on longer drives. You can remove middle seats more easy than backrows (why?!!) so tall folks can sit over the rear-wheels and suffer from motion-sickness. Too bad those windows don't roll down so those folks can barf outside, but all 3rd-row seats offer ample opportunities for car-sickness.

they should use the same magic seats and make the cab big enough so the back seats can recline a bit. then they have 4 doors and a decent length bed.

You've probably made your decision by now, but I'm definitely going with the Odyssey over Pacifica. The Stow-and-Go seats are convenient, but sacrifice a lot of comfort for the rare times I need a fully open space but also don't have somewhere to put them temporarily.
The Odyssey beats the Pacifica hands down in just about every other category, especially in reliability and resale for future trade in.
I have to say , this looks very plain and boring !! Its 2022 not 2015 :) New Toyota Siena will eat this thing for lunch! Common Honda , atleast bring Hybrids !!
Given even a “plain Odyssey” is back ordered by months to a better part of a year, and given continuing parts/chip shortages, it makes sense not to make major changes (which would require major retooling) until the supply chain is clear.

@@evoemperor3776 Nobody buying these to pretend to be in a race car. Gas mileage is where it's at and the Siena delivers far superior numbers, particularly in city driving where this 20 year old SOHC V6 will struggle to get 15mpg.
Yes, I agree that the inside is a little dated but I like that the 2nd row seats can be fully removed and the engine is a V6 whereas the Siena is not. However the Siena does get better gas milage with the hybrid. Basically it’s get better storage space or better milage.
The Siena is over styled lol. With those fake little vents next to the taillights just to make it look sporty 🤣🤣. You seen all the fake vents on the Supra? The new civic type R doesn't have fake vents and looks much better than its predecessor.

Depends on where you live. Where I live it might be useful once a year. Maybe less.

It's got so many great features but kia includes heated steering wheel and wireless charging pad in the non elite version. It's crazy how Honda really makes sure to milk the customer with the elite version. Not only that but no hud or 360 camera
I actually rented a Honda Odyssey for a road trip vacation to Florida and it was fantastic. It super comfortable and practical and performed flawlessly. The wife and kids loved it. I would never own or buy a minivan but if you happen to have a slew of kids minivans make a whole lot more sense than SUVs in my opinion.
Its my luxury vehicle with the sliding side doors for easy loading and so roomy. It's also my truck as I can haul a lot! It's about the ease and comfort for me. This one isn't much different than my 2012 and yes the look is dated but really, its a van so I am okay it not being dreamy looking :) Its been easy to maintain and good on gas on trips. I never thought I would be a van person but I am hanging onto my Odyssey when I compare it to the SUVs I like.
The interior is surprisingly nice for a minivan. It’s too bad it’ll just get trashed by a bunch of greasy kids.

Guys, nice review of a spacious but unimpressive minivan. Honda is downright negligent with features. No 360 camera, no headup display, no hybrid, no AWD, no full LED lighting, small entertainment/GPS display. That extra cost red paint is bland. When you were reviewing the 3rd row, why didn't you raise the headrest? Competition is leaving Honda way behind.

No AWD, no Hybrid, wouldn't even consider Honda Odyssey. Toyota Sienna is clear winner.
How long have minivans been around? How long have they started offering AWD? How did those vans do without AWD for so many years? Because AWD is overrated and is actually benefiting in only a small percentage of the time. Hybrid? Hybrid takes up space... That's why the Sienna has lowest in class cargo room. My 22 Carnival gets 28-29mpg on the highway. That's a V6... Not a 4 cylinder like Toyota. Yes... 35mpg is nice.... But at what cost? Loud... Sluggish acceleration.. lack of overall cargo? No thank you. Good luck with yours
@amit I totally agree! Every odyssey I’ve been in gets stuck after a heavy snow. That’s the main reason I’ll never consider one without AWD.

Put a deposit down on a 2023 EX-L. Going next week to get it back. Honda no longer is a good value since the price gouging. Had an Odyssey for 13 years and planned on another 13 but I’m now too old to play money games for something with wheels.

We still have our 03 EX leather w 180K miles. Outside of brakes and tires, normal maintenance, nothing bad to report. I can get 10 sheets of 5/8 drywall, or 2 Lay-Z-Boy Recliners, or 7 people, or almost anything else in the van. Bluetooth? Nope. Rear camera? Nope. "rear entertainment w DVD w Cassette and CD Player" Yup. Every time I think it's time for it to go, someone in the family needs to move and it proves its worth once again. So, it's going to stay around until the trans finally goes. The engine will run forever.

this has way more room than the Highlander. if you need the cargo and the passenger space, Highlander just doesn't cut it
I had my 2021 highlander for 6 months and I actually just traded it in for the sport odyssey. Odyssey is way better better traction and odyssey picks up better speed
