- I could hardly contain my excitement when I saw this object poking out of the mud when I went mudlarking with my friend Aad who mudlarks in the Netherlands @MudBagger406406406
Aad shared with me his secret beach which is full of treasures! Come with us and see what we find.
You have to be kidding when you call the cheap broken bird beautiful or stunning.
Only a privileged few (many of the viewers of my videos by the way) are able to see the beauty in broken things.
Hi ! Nicola , I'm way over my " Three Score Years plus Ten " and agree with you . Seeing true beauty is a gift not usually a trait of the extremely wealthy . Love your show . You make me feel happy and calm . Thank you . @@nicolawhitemudlark
Does he know what mudlarking IS?
I think it's beautiful ❤
you have rudeness and ignorance for breakfast every morning, innit ?
Hi, Nicola. Susan here. The other statue on the shield is from Rotterdam, and is called The Destroyed City. It was commissioned in 1950 to commemorate the German bombing of Rotterdam in 1940. It was unveiled in 1953. It is a picture of grief. It is worth an in depth read. Haven't found the 1961 connection yet. (Btw, my mom went to school with Leonard Cohen in Montreal - she said he was quite the ladies man even then!).
“He was quite the woman’s man…,” That put a big smile on my face. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much Susan!
Artist was Ossip Zadkine a Belarus-French artist. So we never forget.
yes made by Zadkine.
The connection is the sporting event held every year between students of Rotterdam and Antwerpen, called "Studenten ontmoeting" (Student Meeting) The pin is a keepsake from the event of 1961. It features both cities most prolific statues.
Hi Nicola! I haven’t written in a long time (years!) but I have been loyal all this time. I am disabled, so watching your show makes me feel like I’ve got a friend. I hope you have no cause to stop for a long time. I love the little ceramic birdies you found in this one. Just gorgeous! Thank you for the time you spend with us.
❤
What an incredible sound the beach makes as the waves pass over the glass and ceramic. It’s like nothing I’ve ever heard. The kind of place a beach comer could loose themselves! Thanks for sharing.
The water makes music over the glass n ceramics...like tidal chimes.
Glue the bad side of your bird to a mirror and he will look like a complete bird in flight.
That would be interesting - and amusing!
Comfy chair, cup of tea, mudlarking with Nicola. One of my favourite ways to spend relaxing time. I love your videos... like I've said before, it's almost as good as being able to be with you, and as I get more disabled, your videos really help me to cope. Bless you, and thank you again.❤😊
How fitting that you found many birds, we always love how you feature the birds of the Thames when you film. The bathing beauty looks like she could match the umbrella that Mudbagger found, she seems to have a hole in her hand for it!
I came to look for this comment. My thoughts exactly!👍🏻
Old Mudbagger is a legend. You two are so good to each other. Makes me smile. His channel is very relaxing too. 😊
Your story @29:50 with the broken birds and Leonard Cohen lyrics... beautiful. Thank you, Nicola.
Sweet!
Yes it was, I will try to remember it.
Aard and his whistling and humming is so nice. His melodies coupled with your voice and excitement after your discoveries make me happy. Thank you, Nicola. Thank you Aard!
Thank you for sharing the Leonard Cohen lyrics and the perfection in brokenness! Brilliant eisode.
Perfect :)
From an American point of view, hearing you say "little bird" is just wonderful. Love the videos.
It's always a joy to see you and your mudlarking treasures. Now you have given another treasure to watch..The Mudbagger is a fascinating and wonderful addition to the beautiful RUclips collection. Thank you for all the positivity and beauty you bring.
The "1961 Rotterdam Antwerpen" pin is a keepsake pin of a sporting event in that year. Rotterdam and Antwerpen are called the sister cities, and every year students from both cities competed with eachother, sometimes in Rotterdam, sometimes in Antwerp, in all sorts of sports. It was called "Studenten Ontmoeting" (Student Meeting) The first one was held in 1937. The event is discontinued now, but they were held again in 2005 and 2007.
I'm always impressed by how much treasure there's at Mudbaggers' sites! What a feast!
So sweet!
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Your adventures never cease to entertain. I adore the birds, and thank you for emphasizing that things don’t have to be perfect to be valued.
My mother often said "perfection is boring".
The creativity on these clay pipes always amazes me.
Awsome
mudbagger seems a nice bloke, and Nicola can see through rocks.
“A little man and a headless wife!” LOL! Thank you for sharing the quote from Leonard Cohen.
Dear Nicola White, you have no idea how much joy you bring me with your videos. I feel like I'm there mudlurking with you. Each little thing you spot on the shore makes my heart beat faster! Thank you so much and keep it up! Greentings from Montevideo, South America.
Greetings back to you my friend ❤️ xxx
I've missed you and our weekly adventures. So glad to see you out and about finding new treasures.
My husband missedher for sure😂
My two favorite mudlarkers together again. What a nice treat.
Aad's videos are very pleasurable to watch. I'm so glad that you and Si introduced him to us last year!!
I'm so surprised that you found 2 pretty ceramic birds there. The 2 little shields and so many other wonderful birds!!
Well he is a joy. He’s whistling and kind calm nature comes through the video.
Your finds were special today. I’ve never seen you find a pipe anything like the one today. It was beautiful. Such intricate detail. ❤
Nicola, I wanted to thank you for the sweet glass fish postcard that came along with my new tideline art shopping bag. Adding to the comments by those of us who can't mulark, your videos give us a chance to experience mudlarking and your fascinating finds. Your oppenness and graciousness encourage us to share. Thanks for both your finds and views of the life on the river. Thanks again and all my best to you!
Thx Leslie! I'm so glad it arrived safely. I hope you put lots of nice shopping in it :) ❤️ xxx
The compact polished up with a lovely design! That beach! God only knows what treasures it hides. It would be such fun to hunt. I also loved the pipe! ❤
After all the years that people have been uncovering little bits of history, you are able to find quite alot every time you go to the shore.
Love the compact you found very pretty design 🎉❤ I am from Mesa, Az very hot this summer 111 these days. This is the first time I have seen you... 😂😊
You lucky thing Nicola. The compact is fabulous 👌
You mudlarkers are doing a good job in helping to clear up the seashores - dual purpose!
Soon you will have the whole flock of those blue Birds that bring you & us happiness 👍🏻🤩🌞🤣😊
Thank you Nicola, always beautiful and entertaining and educational, and inspiring, thank you Aad, and LC too.
You always find treasures because you are just the nicest person!!!
That's the sort of place you could sit down and loose yourself with whats in reach. Thanks for letting us see what you are doing. 😍
That was a fun lark! Thanks for sharing the story about Antwerp.
What an enjoyable treat - thanks for sharing Aad's secret beach! Great finds❤
Yes, and that is what we need to remember in life that the people we like, love, and hold dear to our hearts are not perfect but they are all just the same as beautiful. None of us are perfect and need to see the beautiful qualities in one another. Blessings to all. Cheers. 😊
If I go to London, where to I go & what tools should I bring? This is so fun!
After seeing people get sick in the Sienne river during the Olympics, it makes me wonder how dirty the Thames is. I mean people have been throwing dead bodies and carcasses in there for a thousaand years or more. I would love to see the lab results!
Natural decomposition isn't the problem, it's sewage, pharmaceutical drugs and farming chemicals and landfill and fracking which ultimately pollute the Thames and 200 years of industrial waste
The Thames use to have a different name "The Big Stink". But in the later half of the 19th century the government made the river much cleaner by modernizing the sewage system (parts of it dating back as far as Roman times) and then timing the release of sewage to coincide with the receding tide so the waste would go out to sea. The funny thing is this was done under the pretext that bad smells were responsible for causing disease (the miasma, or bad smell, theory of disease) so by coincidence making the river smell better also caused bacteria levels to decline significantly which solved the problem eventhough they had solved the problem by using completely false beliefs.
Love watching your videos , especially with Mud Bagger , there’s so much treasure there x
I believe that they recommend not getting wet and wear rubber gloves.
Or you could call the river “Seine”😉
Nice treasures on that beach! Mudbagger is great!
A big and loud SHOUT OUT for Mud bagger .
❤❤❤❤
I have been watching his videos for a long time and really enjoy his SHORTS and his collection.
Really enjoyed watching the beautiful video. Wow, the powder container is so cool

Glad you had a lovely time away with family. You both found some absolutely beautiful treasures as always. Aad is so kind, and he's great to watch as well. Thank you so much Nicola xx Teresa 🇦🇺
No matter the weather…Your pretty smile brightens so many people day 🤩🌞👍🏻
How exciting, I'd love to go "treasure hunting" there! I live in the south in the US & long ago, people would have an area where they'd toss their "trash"(empty bottles, broken dishes, etc). Before my sister started building her home, she had a part of her land cleared & they found one of those "trash" areas. We had a blast digging for treasures! We even found Civil War items and empty perfume bottles from Paris. The inner archaeologist in me loved every minute! lol
Lovely finds, Ard is part of my daily routine, I watch his shorts every day, very relaxing.
Beautiful Nicola, I love finding things, I love the way it makes you think of what might of been. ❤xx🧡🍁
Aad is so generous, sharing his finds and his mudlarking locations with you. You both had a good haul that day but when you and Aad collaborate, you usually do! Thanks, as ever, for your interesting and informative vlogs.
What a special pipe! Love the compact too. Aard's videos are marbleous
A lovely video as always, Nicola - thank you! Really enjoyed watching you and Aard find such wonderful treasures. Especially loved the little birds; so precious beautiful even in their brokenness!!❤❤

Again, love learning history. Thanks for the story of Antwerp 💞👊👍🏻
oh you are with mudbagger! That is great and look right off you are finding treasures!! Those are the Bluebirds of happiness and they have come your way!! lol I can't believe how the broken treasures abound there!! Thanks for another very entertaining beach walk
Beautiful finds and interesting history story !!! Thank you !!!❤️🦘
What wonderful finds! I love watching Aad's videos, so relaxing, I love how he just wanders along whistling 🙂
Thank you Nicola. It must be difficult to leave that location with Mudbagger as there are so many amazing finds. I often wonder if mudlarkers walk around all the time looking downwards, always searching for treasure. I find myself doing it even while walking my dog and I have found a few things. However I have seen many beautiful sights that I would have missed like patterns in the footsteps in snow and autumn leaves piled up randomly as if carefully placed. Well I rambled on enough but once again thank you.
Oh I tend to look down a lot! It's a habit. I was looking up a lot recently in Guernsey at night though as I was trying to see some shooting stars! 🌟 ❤
Beautiful, thought provoking lyrics that you shared Thank you
What a fun day out mudlarking with your friend Aard. The birds remind me of blue birds of happiness which was a type of jewellery for kids when I was young. Ofcourse there was a pipe and it was fantastic! Thanks Nicola for taking us along to the secret beach. 😊
I watch Aard all of the time! Love his channel and the content. I love hearing the glass when he walks and the waves crashing onto the glass.
I like all of your metal finds, and the birds. You did great while you were with Aard. I’m glad you are safely back home. Have a fantastic week Nicola ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
I comment as I watch this time, dear Nicola!
That chunk of uranium glass,it almost glows in the daylight, wow!

I love your intros and outros, as well .
Thames, the gem, how can you go wrong.
Cheers to Badger.
Frederick "Rik" Spector
Thank you xxx
Yours is a show both peaceful and interesting. Cheers as always
Such wonderful treasures! The pipe is magnificent, as is the beautiful compact! You never cease to surprise me with how trained your eye has become!! You are able to see such treasures that anyone else would just walk on by. I enjoyed another adventure with you and, as always, blessings to you, my friend, and all of those you cherish! ~Jen
I love the BATHING BEAUTY! After hearing your bird story, I love them also... 😃 ❤ 😃
Glad you had a lovely time in Guernsey. Sounds like such an idyllic place. I always enjoy your rambles with Aad. Cheers!
Fantastic finds Nicole and Aad.... ❤🎉
This may be one of my favourite videos in 4 years of watching - thank you so much x
The curvaceous small lady looks like it could be a Jamaican style of a woman figurine I have seen similar drawings and 1960s 1970s artwork - but I know you will find it! Love your channel ❤
Great finds with a wonderful friend. Doesn't get better than that!! Love findng beauty in the broken as well!!!❤❤❤
Nicola White quoting Leonard Cohen. My day is blessed.
❤❤
Oh, Nicola, that compact was just gorgeous!!! I love when you take us on larking adventures with you!!!❤❤❤
I've mudlarked without knowing. I'm just amazed that you walk around with the camera and you're finding some things that are so small and you know what they are! Incredible! What kind of place is this that has so many teeny tiny treasures!!??!!
What a great outing with you and Aad. So many fantastic finds.❤ Thanks again for sharing. And yes the 1961 pin, my birthyear😊, has the Rotterdam statue on it. ❤
I'm going through some trying times lately, these videos always put a smile on my face. Haven't thought about marbles in a long time, brings me back to playing in the school yard. Thanks, from New England.
My favorite find were the birds, lovely. But so many interesting finds on this outing.. 🥰👍👍
Lovely to see you with Aad on his treasure beach. Thank you for the Antwerpen facts, I've been there and didn't know that. I love that song and many more from Leonard Cohen. Have a good time Nicola!
I love the mudbaggers videos. Very calming. Enjoyed the video nic.
WOW, that was so cool 😎 you finding that compact & then Art giving you the tiny one he found !!! And it was nice seeing you & Art mudlarking together again !!! You giving him marbles & him giving you colored glass & pottery pieces !!! I absolutely love that huge chunk of uranium glass, hope you kept it, so beautiful !!! Love the clay pipe bowl & some stem with a little man & his headless wife 😮 !!! Very nice video Nicola !!! Much love 💕 to you from the USA !!! PS- I remember seeing your picture & message of being on holiday with your family & you was going to tell & show us what you found at some Manor but I haven't seen nothing. Hope I didn't miss it !!! 🙂❤️
So happy this popped up in my feed...what a delightful lady! Made my morning here in WA state..thanks!
So glad you enjoyed it ❤️
The fun is in the hunt! Once again, Nicola, thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and for doing the research on these items.
What a lovely day with Aad! I also love your addition of the lyrics from 'Anthem' and the special meaning. Recent;y, our family was in Valencia, Spain. Everywhere for sale were these ceramic swallows, or "Golondrinas". We purchased several as gifts. We were told these golondrinas are an important symbol of family, love and fidelity. They exactly resemble the two you found with Aad.
It's always a great day when Nicola is on the Tube! Great finds..happy birdday😅
That thing with the wire is an original ancient plug in light saber 😂
Wonderful!❤
“Oh darn. Can’t believe that I _have_ to go to the beach a few extra days.”
I’d like to have this problem. Glad you had a nice time!
Lovely blue bird. Beautiful trinket box. Oh, another bird. Pretty marble. Your large box is maybe for powder and the little one for the rouge.
Such a beautiful song about birds & light.
You absolutely are a gift to this world.
The wise one's say our innocence & wonder is more important than our intelligence & you show us time & again that to be true.❤❤
Hi Nicola, so nice to see you mudlarking and finding treasures again ! I love the compact but I thought compacts were a modern invention from the 20-ies/30-ties or even later ? Can it be Edwardian ? And I loved the story of Antwerp, so so interesting and all because you've found that tiny little shield. Amazing how much history can be uncovered due to those tiny little objects you are finding... Great research , I enjoy your channel so much. And I wish my Dad could still be alive - he would have loved it too , he was a history enthusiast, like yourself. xxx
Yes I think your dates are right
So glad you enjoy. Thank you for watching ❤
So many amazing goodies in such little time
Hi Nicola. I'm so glad that I discovered your channel today. I was transfixed watching you looking for interesting finds with your friend Ard (I hope I got his name right).
Mudlarking is right up my alley. Lucky you! If I were anywhere nearby, I'd be searching the riversides, too, and certainly come to the festival.
I found a lovely arrowhead on our gravel driveway when I was 5 years old in the state of New Jersey. Your finds were fabulous, each one a real treasure. Thanks for bringing us along!!
Susan in S. California.
Hi Nicola, cool finds & great to see you finding your infamous pipe even in a different location 👍🏻👍🏻
Oh!
It was awesome to see you in the live chat last week for the Natasha & Debbie show!
Looking back at my photos I found the couple of pics when I met you at a Thames exhibition…..OMG it was 25th September 2019!!
Wow time flies! Thanks Glenn ❤
Ive been missing your videos over the last few weeks. Too busy and too tired. But tonite I ive so enjoyed watching you and Mr. Aard mudlarking. The sound of the water making the pebbles and tile bits sing and seeing the small treasures made me happy❤
Welcome back! Have missed you! Again, lovely finds! Love the birds and your memory of Lenard C9hen's poem to go with!
Hi Nicola. I was so glad to have seen this one. I love that beach, and could see myself happily losing myself for hours there. I want to pass on a trick I learned as a child when trying to decipher writing on objects. You could try it on that pipe stem if you like. I would place a piece of plain paper on top of the script and then gently rub over the letters with a graphite pencil. It works for me 99% of the time on all shapes of things. Good luck, if you try. Wish I could make it over for the Totally Thames display. Thanks for the video...I also love that song. Love from Vancouver Island.
Thank you! I'll let you know ❤xx
