Very well explained the likes and dislikes of what is still a significant purchase at 80k for a sports car. I do agree that the styling is a cut above and they could have marketed this car at a much higher price point and still had significant sales. I do like the spec that you have chosen for your Emira. The yellow and black compliment the general shape of the car. Was the wait of two years+ worth it from when you first saw it at Goodwood festival of speed??? My thoughts are that in the intervening years from order to fruition it was worth the wait. Will be good to see this on track duty and touring the continent

I’ve been honored to have owned a lotus Elise for a few years. Been one of my more favorite cars.
I have experienced a few really fun things with it. Raced it quite a bit, but the most fun would have to be taking a lotus to a car meet here in Kentucky.
Whispers of “look there’s a Ferrari”, or questions of is this a kit car, or “what is that thang?”

    • @davidroush1224
      @davidroush1224 Год назад +1

Just a bit North of you in Indiana, similar comments from people who have no idea what it is. The rare few who do, love it more than the true super cars as they appreciate it as a truedriver's car. Love my Elise, hopefully never selling it as there isn't anything out there new that could replace it. But if Caterham ever bought the tooling like they did the 7 and sold an Elise kit, I'd be right on that, maybe with a highly modded K24 for double the power at the same vehicle weight. But, probably not going to happen.

@@jaystepp150 -Yes, that is my baby. I've always been a car guy, friend builds race car engines, and decades ago helped pit crew a friends Sprint car. I own a couple E-Types I've been restoring for years and decided I wanted to buy a pure driver's car I could use routinely that was dependable .... not a Jag trait ;)
I had read so many car magazine writers over the years consistenly rate the Elise as one of the most pure cars they ever drove and they would love to own. So, I started searching and found this car in Hemmings. I had never driven one or even talked to anyone who had. I had only seen two in all the years since they were sold in the US, and one was at a car show.
So, I bought a car I never even sat in let alone driven, sight unseen from across the country. A nephew lived 2 hours away and checked it out so I bought it based on his inspection. Had it shipped closed trailer to me so the first time I drove one was mine, in my driveway. I knew within 100 ft I'd made the right decision and had something truly special.
I let lots of guys drive it to share the experience and all are blown away. One friend has a turbo 911 monster with carbon brakes he tracks some. We traded cars on a local curvy/hilly road. His car was fast, but felt numb/sterile and I didn't want one after getting out. But my friend had that huge Lotus grin on his face as he exited my car and said he was mad that now he wanted an Elise too.
I've driven several sports cars, many faster, but nothing yet has been as much fun to drive on public roads nor given me as much road feedback. I hear McLarens do, but too complicated for me and no manual tranny offered now, so I don't think I'd want one of those either now. Keep enjoying your Elise !

Brilliant video, it's such an awesome spec'd Emira!
An interesting fact. (was told a while ago so hopefully someone can correct me with bits) Roger Becker the engineering director at lotus made sure all the cars had that awesome curve from the lights to the mirror. It's design is not just aesthetic, it's called the Becker curve (or something similar)
Maybe ask someone at lotus next time you're at Hethal. It's stories like this that just adds to the experience of lotus ownership. Thankyou for putting together this video 👏

Great video, all around. I must say, you could, install a retractable front plate mount. They do exist. For cars shows and gatherings, for your garage, for times the number plate is not necessary. Drive with gloves so the shifter is no issue, dry the car better when washing so there's no standing water, don't open the boot without wiping the excess water out before dumping it on the engine. Everything else is gravy. Value for money? I should hope to shout.

Didn't know KEF was into car audio. Sad to hear it doesn't live up to the premium spund. That's really strange because KEF is not new to high end audio. Been around since at least the 90s and have very good reputation for great sound at home. KEF is known for their many generations on concentric speaker drivers and would be curious if their using these in premium car systems. Terrific detailed video as always Tiim! Genuinely thinking about the 4 cylinder and DCT. More spirit of the Lotus Esprit which is what I grew up with. Red over tan and silver wheels.

Awesome car, I love how much Geely have utilised all the quality bits from Volvo such as the switch gear, screens and rear view mirror. Really works well with the Lotus

I knew Geely owns Volvo, but didn’t know they own Lotus too. Seems like Geely has been a benevolent owner, letting each brand chart its own path, while saving costs by sharing parts that don’t detract from the car’s character.

In michigan we don't have to have a front license plate which is a great thing to not have, not to mention the fact that we get better gas mileage for not having it

I enjoy British brands doing well. Not that this Car doesn’t have it quirks but that looks a decent offering from Lotus setting them up hopefully for future. Will Lotus tie up with Tesla again to go electric although Tesla may not want competition for its own new Roadster. I hate small details when done poorly that you as a owner can spot within hours that it was not thought out. The seats are supposed to be uncomfortable that they could easily done right from the start. Access to the front is not easy, pulling a catch and it pop up is easy but then it looks like something you wouldn’t do. So a few overnight bags in the back. Drainage problems but refreshing Tim being honest enough to touch on.
Bet it drives great and that is what people want the Car for. I realise the journey from ordering to collection and factory tour was interesting to see but more interesting is what it offers Tim when he has a raft of other sports Cars over just having a Lotus badge in the mix. The Car does look over a £100k easy.

You briefly mentioned the brake not automatically applying- I know the cars cannot be compared, but I have a 2018 fiesta that also has a “hill start assist” setting. It always turns itself off randomly, and I actually found it to be dangerous as sometimes I’d assume it was going to step in when taking my foot off the brake pedal. I’ve now just left it switched off and mastered the clutch in this car to do hill starts. It’s pretty annoying, as the feature is pretty cool when it works.

Hi Shmee, what is the interior luggage space behind the seats like? Since the rear boot space, due to its position above the exhaust can get warm over long drives, and how much can it fit for road trips comfortably? Also, Beautiful car, punches way above its weight in terms of looks, it 100% nailed the supercar look without actually being one. I'm not a C8 hater but it makes it look like it was designed with a ruler.

@@TheHesK9 Thanks man👍ive seen a lot of Emira Videos including STG and Harry's Garages videos. They all just seem to talk about it, but they dont really show what fits in there. Does it have the space of the Evora without the back seats?

For some reason, Lotus cars really suit yellow. It does look great and wouldn't look out of place in a garage of modern Ferrari's.
