How about all the poop that went flying around from all the portable toilets that got swept away. I got a streak of blue colored poop on my driveway and my neighbors dog ate it.
Me neither. I haven't been out there in years and completely forgot it even existed lol I wouldn't even build a strong house on Matlacha, much less a fragile mobile home.
@@frey8725 the only way I would ever live near the water would be in a mobile home. Only one that is actually mobile. Like those tiny homes you can hitch up and trail where ever you want to go. Or maybe even a RV... Something that doesn't take long to pack up and head to safety when need be.
One of my fishing buddies sold his little 2 BR shack home on a Matlacha Canal for an instant offer of $500K in May 2022.... The ultimate "Dodging a Bullet" (he paid $150K 5 years earlier and turned half of it into a Rental generating $15K a year during season for 5 years) Real Estate is Risky... and Wonderful!!
@@colemant6845 Yup. I was born and raised here and seen plenty of hurricanes and storms in my 52 years. Your friend was so lucky to have sold his house, right in the nick of time.
I live in Cape Coral and we were in the eye wall for 8 hrs. New roofs held up good ,older ones were torn off as were all the carports. Not a fence was spared either. We live on a land locked canal so there wasnt any storm surge just 3 ' waves that pushed them front of pontoon boats on the owners lawns. My pedal boat ended up a block away . I had it against my home and it went airborne. I wonder how much stuff is in our canal now too. The water is terrible but compared to this area it was good. Feel bad for the guys that owned mobile homes there. They moved to the area for the fishing and when that will come back is a good question.
It’s so sad to see the aftermath from Ian. What a terrible experience these poor people went through. I hope they can find peace after this. I know one man at least 70yrs old said once he gets his insurance money he was going to move away from water. I don’t blame him. I wonder how long ago the State built up the sandbars so they could put houses on it?
Great footage of a horrible mess. God help all of these people. Your Drone footage is spectacular. Very steady and professional. Drones have opened up a brand new opportunity for first hand surveillance. If interested, check out the erosion of southeast lake Michigan and slow seasonal steady loss of multi yards of beach front, housing. Sad. Thank you again.
All the palms and coconut trees with tops still and the old trailers being practically intact proves to me that the winds there in Matlacha were much less than 150mph. Most of the damage, especially the severe damage, was storm surge related, not wind. Monster surge. My heart goes out to all those impacted by the storm. Sad to see such damage just less than 2 hours west of me.
I know an area where wind damage was much more severe (the trailers are crushed an crumpled some are just gone and there wasn’t severe storm surge in the area). And charlotte county measured wind speeds of 180mph sustained.
OMG I can not believe this area was even developed, what a mess think of all the boards, nails and screws in this waterway and shoreline what a joke, not sure what people and developers were thinking building on barrier islands, actually I do greed.
Don’t forget, washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves and small appliances are in those waterways from the surge. Dangerous for boaters and jet ski’s. Greed, is correct! It’s about money here in Florida.
I've been here my whole life and now I'm leaving because of overdevelopment is ruining what used to be a quiet laid back county. You new yorkers can have this disaster prone area!
Just SAY you don't understand. There's much less typing involved. These piles are people's homes and dreams. Fear not, the waterways will be cleaned up thoroughly, The Corps of Engineers and EPA will see to it.
Lived here all my life, will never leave Florida.people are strong and pull together here as you can see.we have the best governor Ron Desantis and Cassy ❤️❤️💯💪 Florida is strong and will rebuild back 100% 💪 stronger
Ive lived in Florida 37 with no hurricane problems. Lost a palm tree , one fence panel. Thats it ! Been through several hurricanes. The closest I ever lived to the water is 3 miles. If you live on the water yes its a risk. If you live in a mobile home you're insane.

Absolutely not. "Eye appealing" by who's standards? If you don't understand the concept of old Florida small town charm just say that. Maybe someone will make an attempt to try and break it down for you.
Perfect example of how hurricanes can actually reshape land or disappear land forever. Incredible!!!
So sad. That colorful, charming little town with a lot of history is lost forever.
Mother Nature is not a joke. Take her serious. Prayers for the misplaced families and lost loved ones. Godspeed.
Right around the corner from us. Amazing!
Thanks for making this video
I loved Matlacha. Very unique little area. Good restaurants. It will rebuild with stronger structures.
With new codes that will be in place I doubt any permanent structure will be ground level like they were. Its what gave it its charm too
Wow! That Hurricane was intense.
Hell yeah it was I enjoy adrenaline rushes but this was next level crazy
All the oil n gasoline from toppled boats and other debris churned up have created a serious biohazard in Florida’s waters!!😢

Do you know anything about Florida. It’s one of the most polluted states in the country
You realize that happens with any natural disaster, not just Florida?
Oh no!
Really??
We hadn't realized until now.

What does Matlacha look like now, two weeks after this drone footage?
Great views, so much destruction! Where did all the moving cars come from. Pine Island I assume. How did Pine Island fair?
I see a lot of seriously ill advised development there that wasn’t there when I visited 20 years ago. 2 major hurricanes have hit since.
