About 5-10mins work to fit it and it needs no ESC or battery upgrade!
Mid range and low end punch are huge with this easy modification. The A959 by Wltoys costs under $40 and the 540 motor inc all the parts to fit it about $16

I have a a959b converted to brushless. Also have a a949 which my 5yo son uses. Might use the 540motor for upgrading the 949 as he always wants his car to go faster.. haha

i think you need to get a 540 mount
you can just get a mount for a a9x9b series they are pretty cheap

1. will the stock pinion gear fit on this motor? 2. with the pinion gear that comes with the 540 motor can you run the car with the dust cover still on?

Can you put the original pinion on this, think it's 17t ? I think no coz the shaft diameter is different, but if i drill the pinion ? If i put the original pinion, will the speed be better ?
Its quick sounds a bit whistle like its meshed to tight
not criticizing or trolling, didn't know stock was designated a 370 motor, and there are 390 motors same diameter as 370-380's, but near 1/2" longer nearing the same power as a typical 27 turn 540 size Mabuchi stock motor. they're pretty common, often used in some smaller direct drive RC boats, and sometimes 6-7 dollars in eBay.
edit: a 390 might be a really worthwhile upgrade for not needing other parts to do it. have one here so here's the details.... 28mm diameter with a stator collar on it (helps more torque) so almost 30mm with that, can length 58mm not counting the bushing keepers, mount screw spacing 16mm, output shaft diameter (pretty sure) is 2.3mm. so everything stock should work to drop one in. it might not reach the same top speed of a 540 in there, acceleration should be pretty similar, with a little longer run time.

I need to slowdown my A979 for my little son, can i just buy 540 with 80T so it will slowdown o i need to buy another parts?
I would just pick the largest spur they do and the smallest pinion, this will limit the cars top speed.

Hi they're are lots of videos already on YT on setting up gear mesh. The most common is to use a piece of paper between the teeth. There are already better videos on setting the mesh than I could do.

They are tremendous value - you couldn't build them yourself for the money - even the batteries are around 20 dollars bought separately!
Thanks for a great video. I`m sure getting this upgrade as I have both a A969 and A949. For some reason the 949 (rally car) goes much better than my 969, even though it has much smaller wheels. Else all the gears are the same on them, so I guess eighter the original 390 motor goes better the higher RPM it gets, and less the torque it got to pull, or maybe I simply got unlucky with the A969 and got a less powerful motor with it somehow. (They both have the 390 though) I`m guessing this 540 motor will do wonders with my 969. I'm very pleased with my Wltoys cars, I think you get very much for the money. They goes very fast and are easy and cheap to maintain, and can be upgraded totally. I also have 2 wltoys helikopters and a wltoys quadcopter, I guess I have been totally "Wltoys`ified" :D They have greatly low prices, and have decent quality and lifespan I think :D
Andrew thanks for taking the time to comment, glad you're getting on well with it. They have a huge cult following on youtube with loads of mods available. You can even buy a kit to replace EVERY plastic part with an Aluminum one. I think you may be right on the motor, I'd need to check how many turns it has on it to see where the power band will most likely be. The 540 setup is like a shot of nitrous in this thing!

top speed is more on the gear set up..taller gear is needed for that high tq motor..more top speed and more useable power
Indeed the problem is that this is a 48 metric pitch, this mean the centre spur gear is the problem. You can't seem to get another one in that metric pitch which means whilst the motor has the torque I'm guessing for 50-55mph the gears aren't available, the spur sits on the central drive shaft with a X fixing through the middle of it. All ideas welcomed! It has so much potential!

Any problem after? Is the esc get shutdown? Because the a797b shutdown the esc because of overheat.

Indeed good choice, some of the 'hotter' versions offer really good speed for the money. You can even get EVERY part as an AL upgrade. It maybe a little known car / make but it's getting a cult following.
I buy a 540 motor for my A959 but the motor turn in a reverse rotation, what can i do ? Can i reverse the polarity ? Or maybe i reverse the gearbox ?
I find the solution, i reverse the two gearbox and now it's good.

@@DriftomaniacsRC I'm afraid of reversing the wire coz there is a diode or something in my 540 motor, but reverse the gears works. I have another problem, i have cut off sometimes when i push full power, i think it's the esc, i have batterie, 1800 mAh, 40c who i think can deliver the power.
Your gps is broken the stock 390 motor does 31-32 mph
Too funny!!!! The GPS doesn't lie. It breaks hearts and shatters dreams, but it doesn't lie. This GPS refreshs ten timmes faster than other RC GPS. I don't build the cars I just test them. 31-32mph - If your GPS is givign that kind of split reading I'd check it first of all.....
Safaa Deeb You might be thinking of the b version which comes with a 540 motor, the regular version has a 390 and is only advertised as 35-40km/h.

Luck you my motor came used(smelled shit) my motor mount holes is also on the wrong side.and there is also 10 random used screws
oh dear that's not good. I bought the mount on it's own to start with and a cheap 540 motor then found NOWHERE sold the pinion which has a funny thread on it sold by nobody else, end result is I ended up buying the complete kit of motor/mount/pinion just to get the pinion gear I needed....

You need to buy the motor with the plate and gear included. The pitch is a really, really odd size and only seems to come inc with the motor pack.

Those are some of the most powerful brushed motors, for sure. I definitely recommend putting a titan twelve turn in there.
