I’m 60 now and I remember as a schoolboy we went on a day trip to Beamish museum, there wasn’t a great deal then and we had to take packed lunches 😊 I’ve been many times since and it’s definitely worth a visit 👍🏻
The Christmas evening events at beamish are amazing, it’s like stepping into Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, absolutely magical and definitely fills you full of Christmas spirit. It’s my favourite time of year to visit and can’t recommend it enough!
At one time a visit to Beamish was a half day visit. It needs three days now as they add actual buildings from the area brick by brick. Never be afraid to ask questions as the staff remember things from their childhood or parents tales. It is truly a living museum keeping not only buildings but preserving our Northern memories and culture.
If you like Beamish, I'd recommend Cragside. It's mostly Victorian, and being Armstrong's house, it includes some early electrical technology, as well as being the first house to be powered by hydroelectricty! The gardens are also really nice.
Wow, you found another gem that I never knew about. Looks like an amazing way to spend a day, the line "it's like Disneyland for people who actually kinda dislike everything about Disneyland" really made me interested! 😂
Loved your video, in the pit village there isHettonsilverband hall Iplayed in the band for nearly 30 years before the hall was moved to Beamish, so pleased you enjoyed your visit!
That was fab. I'm so pleased you enjoyed Beamish. We live just 15 mins away and it's a magical place. We actually drove past there today on the way back from Edinburgh no less!
Fun video. Entertaining and informative.. My wife and I are going there for the first time tomorrow. But now armed with information and my appetite Thanks
If you’re ever back in the area, definitely check out the Tanfield Railway! Its near Beamish and has a very industrial yet charming feel to it, with small tank engines and vintage small coaches.
Amazing timing for these videos. My husband and I have planned a long weekend trip to Newcastle this weekend and will be visiting Beamish too. Can’t wait!
Give yourself a lot of time. I live in the North East. I love visiting Beamish. I reccomend the place to absolutely anyone I know, who's visiting the area. Enjoy your day. I hope you have a great time.
@@Kakibotglad you enjoyed Beamish, it's a place where you totally get lost in everything and the time just flies over. Plus that years ticket, just gives you an excuse (if you need one) to go back.
It has been so long since I've been here it's literally like travelling back in time to the early 20th century, I love seeing the sweets and bread being made in the sweet shop and bakery it's very authentic
Do not blame the locals for their parkas and waterproofs, every single time I have gone to Beamish it has poured. Count yourself so lucky that you got a good day! We have had quite a wet and windy summer so far.
I’m American and have visited a lot of the UK but I’d never heard of Beamish so Thank You. I’m glad that you mentioned that it is accessible by public transit from Newcastle.
Been twice this summer it's a fascinating place. We live 20 minutes away and it's been great seeing it flourish and grow from when I first went as a kid in the 70s.
I lived in the NE about 8 years ago, and we used to visit about 6 times a year on that one ticket purchase. Amazing place. Great nostalgic v8deo for me, so thank you
Hi, the cafe ice cream bar in the 1950's section called John's. is a replica of the cafe next door to me, it has long since closed but still there, the owners still live in houses next door to it, the inside items were bought by beamish to go inside. its right at 3,14 on the video
Kakipots another great video you have done, I live in gateshead and visit beamish a lot with my yearly pass you can't see the museum in one day it takes two or three days to see it all, but you must have ran round to get all this in your video well done. You have shown me things I can't get to because I'm in a wheelchair ,thank-you, if you a coming back to the museum pick a weekend when the museum has a steam rally on, they look great going round the town no extra cost. I also like your Jesmond dene video never been before . Many thanks
This is so cool! I’m with you, Kak. I love attractions like this, cause I’m a total history nerd, and love places like this that immerse you in it. I’ll definitely dress the part when I visit, and I’ll get any and all friends and family that visit to go as well! I’m very excited for the food, cause I very much enjoy traditionally made foods, especially sweets. ^.^
As someone who lives 10 minutes from Beamish and has always been familiar with it, at 34 it’s only just dawning on me that it actually is pretty unique.
Fantastic excursion!! Loved this so much. I was oddly captivated by the sign at 12:05 “Mahogany Drift” - - sounds like a perfect title for a book, movie, etc. Anyway, already googling Beamish to see if I can put on my future itinerary. 🤗
Technically there is one on the channel already - it's from early 2020 and I very vividly remember it being my last pre-plague trip 🥲 I'd love to go back again, but this time it'd be amazing to make it a bit more of a road trip around Ireland!
Beamish is amazing. You'll have to go back when the trolley buses go to the 1950s site. That and next year I would imagine beamish will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the stockton and darlington railway too.
I used t9 live in pit houses like these in Denton Burn on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne. Still a lot left like that, in Caroline Cottages, just over the road. And original pit houses from the Caroline Pit that my mother’s family worked. The old Miners Welfare is still standing, spoilt by the local council who can not look after it.
Oh wow! I love that you get to experience different eras, and I’m totally fine if I only get to eat ice cream ha ha. We have a place here that is focussed on the 1850’s gold rush period. I haven’t been for years. I think I’m going to have to move to the UK for at least a year if I want to see all the things 😅😅😅
"Butt" LOL Damn you, woman, you already talked me into Newcastle, and now I have to go to Beamish--I had NO IDEA this existed. Kat, this is an amazing video, to the point where it is starting to feel inaccurate to call your work "videos" because they are like little perfect films. The whole time I was watching I was thinking more about your videography prowess than I was about Beamish. That's sort of a confusing compliment LOL. Anyway, I love licorice. Keep it up and I am going to have to nickname my credit card after you due to all the train tickets you're talking me into xo
If you like salt and vinegar on your chips, it is best to put the vinegar on first otherwise, you'll find most of your salt gets washed off the chips 😉
At a dairy farm local to me lived the last surviving pit pony that worked in the local pit. He was the height of the ponies shown in the film except that he looked like he had been to the gym every day of his life (which, in a way, he had). The other thing to note about them is that they lived down in the pit except for two weeks a year when the pit closed for their summer holiday.
@@timelordvictorious Yes. They had stables at the bottom of the pit shaft. It may have been a different situation for more shallow mines, but our local one was hundreds of feet deep. They were well looked after, though. Still, not ideal for the animals themselves. When you see the conditions that a lot of equines have to work in around the world today it makes you glad they were able to replace those pit ponies with machines.
If you're vegan they cook your chips separately and obviously don't use the beef dripping to cook them in. There's also a chippy in the pit village (which was the first chippy at Beamish) and they cook them in a coal fired fryer - if you stand outside you can get sprinkled with the ash from the chimney. The queues are usually long for the chippy
You should go at Halloween, they've got all sorts of ghouls walking around . It's really good,my kids loved it when they were young. Beamish also took a land mark from my home town, South Shields, called Wesoe netty ( geordie for toilet) . There is a famous painting by Local artist Bob Olley of it.
Beamish is not bad thou would be good if they put more stuff there. Rock cake not sure if that’s a northern cake think it’s just a general cake in the uk
I've been to several of the Scandinavian ones, which are great. I never even heard of Beamish before this though! Also, at 4:00 is an accidental Rembrandt
I was going to hit “like” until you went off on how people were dressed. Some of them have come a long way and, in my opinion, were dressed with that in mind. Others may well have been dressed in what they consider their “good” clothes. You came off as a bit of a snob. Up until that point I’d intended to subscribe, as well as “like”. I won’t be doing either.

Glad I could take you somewhere new! .) absolutely loved the place ♥️

I went as a kid (nearly 20 years ago), and it made a lasting impression, loved it and gave me an eternal soft spot for those old timey vibes
Can't imagine how much more magical it must be to visit as a kid! Glad to hear you have such good memories of it .)
Fun video. Entertaining and informative.. My wife and I are going there for the first time tomorrow. But now armed with information and my appetite Thanks
Hi Kakibot, I really like your fashion sense, where did you that brown sweater vest and green coat? It looks so sophisticated 😁
Looks beautiful here in North of England! Thanks for sharing Kat & I enjoyed the video! ❤❤

Sounds wonderful. ❤

The great thing about beamish is that it never grows old. Ironic really.

Fabulous video, I nearly choked on my tea when you said it's like Disneyland for people who hate everything about Disneyland😊
Glad you enjoyed it. Its just on our doorstep so we're quite lucky, and can keep going back over the year.

What a gorgeous living museum. I'm glad you got to visit the Beamish Museum.

They will soon have cottages you can rent to stay overnight. Love this place, go back at Christmas time and visit the farm.
Great vlog
Live 10 miles away and visit at least once every year. It's a local gem.
Another childhood memory unlocked. I really need to go back and visit the North East.
That’s so cute 🥺🥺
You’re both always so snappily dressed. 😊
