Glad it was helpful! @Nicole - if you're already in a PM role and don't feel the need for further education, you could consider waiting for the PMP as well. Good luck with all your future endeavors
There are a bunch of different groups that offer various different project management "certifications." Most of them are pretty worthless and just resume fodder. If they're very fast and require a weekend of your time and no prior experience then their value to a hiring manager is likely similarly shallow. The CAPM, despite coming from PMI, isn't really all that valuable. However, if you have literally nothing with "project management" on your resume it's a great place to start. So in that respect CAPM is a worth-while investment since it requires little more than a high school diploma, a couple hundred bucks and some study time. But hopefully it's the type of certification you earn and never recertify because you move on up to the full PMP (also from PMI). The PMP has long been the gold standard and that should be your goal. Only acquire enough of the these minor certifications to get you that first job or two and get to the PMP as quickly as possible. After you have the PMP nothing else is really supremely consequential or helpful unless you're looking at specialized certifications within project management. But as a general, all purpose certification, the PMP is pretty much it.

For me, it was worth it, as I did not have to pay (part of an unemployment plan), and wanted to explore this path. The course touched on theories but in my opinion, gives you hands on/step-by-step practices at the different life cycle stages. In the end, they offered discounts to seat for both CAPM and PMS-1, access to the Coursera job platform, 1 year of another platform that provides lessons and practices to different levels of interviews… I am not sure they will continue with these offerings, but since I did not hear about it in the video, decided to share. Hello Emma, Thank you for providing all the details for Google Project Management Certificate, Currently i am working as Business/Sales Analyst and planning to move my career in Project management. I had some few doubts it will be great if u help me with that ( anyone who's having answer for this also pls cmt it) " i can't find proper answer in anywhere ". My doubts are, 1. What are the roles & responsibilities of project management team in hierarchy basis like (junior BA > BA > junior PM > PM > PO) & the skills they need yo develop 2. Is the project manager or any one in the team of project management had to know the knowledge of coding/ program language skills in TECH domain. 3. What are the key certification those project management team persons had to pursue. 4. Is the project manager can able to switch domains like TECH to retail or any filed where there is need of project management. Thanks
PMP certification is either a requirement or a ban, depending on where you go looking for work. My wife considered getting her PMP (after over 20 years of doing project management), but discovered that the "feel" many people frequently had was that the certification was covering for lack of experience and/or incompetence, and to get a pay boost.
You gotta be careful, 'cause if this Google Certification is based on PMI Guidelines, PMBok changed to the new version (Version 7) just like a week ago, so it will change the content (a few or a lot, I don't even know) and also the way companies will see this kind of "Certification". Besides this, if PMbok is recently released doing a CAPM exam could be quite different comparing the new version with the old one.
Great video - Super informative and honest. Thank you! Question: I have a BA in Literature and have been working for a few years in both the tech and hospitality industries, but I don't have any specific project management roles. Do you think this would be a good certification for a career changer like myself? Thanks again!
Hi Atovarn7 - My take is if you want to get a glimpse of project management and are interested in the content, then go for it. However, since you already have some work experience, if you're more focused on jobs, start applying and see if you get any callbacks. You can always take the course at a later time as well!

So how did it go brother? How's the course going?
Same I’m in my second week too
Hey...ur presentation is just way too good....lots of love from India😊😊
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks for posting the video @RecipeforSuccess
I finished the course this week. I do have some project coordination experience but focused on evens/hospitality and wanted to change the focus.
Good luck all!
That's awesome - thanks for sharing! I'm glad that you were able to take this course for free! That definitely sounds worth it! Best of luck with interviewing (if that's your next step)!
Please can I know doid you get a PM job after this certification course
I studied philosophy and now I just want to change the entire line
This was an insightful video thankyou
Thank you for the kind comment!
Thank you for detailed information. I just finished my second week of Google PM certification and Iam super excited. My only worry is if this wouldn’t get me find a job. Will see.
did you finish if so did u find employment
I took the course and got my certificate and i have landed a few interviews. I will give honest feed back how the interviews go and how they see the Coursera cert.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your personal experience - I'm glad to hear you're interviewing. Best of luck landing your dream role!
any updates? :)
Thanks for this video. This has been very helpful. I'm one of those people without a degree and see my career leaning in a PM direction.
Glad it was helpful!
This was incredibly thorough. Thank you so much for this! 😊

Your video felt like all I needed to get me started months ago and I wouldn't have needed to sweat a lot with other not so useful project management courses
Can I train with coursera then take the CAPM exam? Or does enrolling for the coursera course mean paying for the exam too?
Awesome video, alot of great information, this video answered alot of my questions. I work as a purchasing manager, and want to cross over to project management. I would feel more comfortable taking the Google Project Management Professional Certificate before applying for PM jobs.
The View outside your room is beautiful
Thanks Dev!
I took the course, but primarily to strengthen my resume for a specific job that is a tier higher than mine in my organization. It will be a few years before it comes available to apply for, but in the meantime it gives me time to further advance in the field (my workplace has a strong focus on Lean Six Sigma).
I’m currently taking this course. Does this cover lean six sigma?
@@speciallove3284 it's comes up briefly in a few places, but it isn't a huge focus

I studied psychology but I want to change careers to project management :) Yesterday I enrolled in the Google Certificate, let´s see how it goes. Thanks for the review, it helped a lot.
Good luck! I hope it works out for you - circle back and let me know what you think of the career services/support that Google offers.
Wow! Same for me. I have a masters in psychology and wanted to start a career in project management
Same here. And the truth is I think I could apply psychology to PM as well
Hi Ana! Did you get a job yet?

Google's Project Management Certificate program was totally worth it for me. I loved going through this program and everything I learned along the way. It's very informative, and I have grown so much throughout the program.
OMG. THANKS FOR EXPLAINING. YOU'RE The FIRST THAT HAS THOROUGHLY EXPLAINED. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Glad it helped!
Hi Recipe for Success Network - this is the first Google Project Management Certificate review I did & I thank you all for your comments and questions! I also did a more recent Google Project Management FAQs video here: ruclips.net/video/9bmn-6AID0A/видео.html
Lastly, let me know if you would be interested in a video on how to decide which PM certificate is best for you!

Thank you for the breakdown. :D
I’m already in my course 2. Thanks 🙏
Nice! Are you liking the content?
@@RecipeforSuccess1 Yes I am. really informative 💡
Hi Richard !
Did you eventually finish the google course and did you have to pay additional after paying for the monthly subscription .
I have just started pm on Coursera and like it
Thank you for being honest about this. I have been steering people away from the google cert as PMI offers 7 free PMI courses that offer you PDU/CEU.
I was definitely considering taking this coarse! Now I will for sure!!!! Mainly based off of the comments! 👍💯👊
That's awesome Pamela - I'm so glad the comments were helpful to you.
This helped me decide to take the course, I have a 5.5 Architect BA, but I would love to take it so I can work with my degree in the US as mine is overseas! I'm planning to take the PMI exam as well as I love to do project coordinating and management, Thank you so much
That's awesome - I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors! Happy 2022~
Your content is incredibly informative. Thank you so much for making this video!
My pleasure!
This was a helpful video.
I hope the data for those 130 companies Google has partnered with on accepting this Professional Certificate as an additional educational qualification, begins to show, so that folks taking this Cert don’t get discouraged.
Looking forward to finishing it this year & hoping for the best.
@Lanre - me too! I hope at some point we'll also get some data specific to this certification so people can make a more informed decision. Glad you enjoyed this video.
Hi Lanre, can I get feedback from you on life after finishing the course? Were you able to get a remote job here in Nigeria?
@@ericnwachukwu2555 My focus on taking the GPMPC was not to get a remote job but to get practical PM skills I could backup in job interviews as well as be a stepping stone for me in preparing to take the actual PMP exam.
But I’d say it was a worthwhile investment of my time.

I’m an Instructional Designer and apply project Management Practices into my everyday work. I’m taking it because I didn’t have a formal education in this area. I think it will complement my current career.
Love that! Good luck!
I am taking the Google Project Management certification right now, and I am an aspiring Instructional Designer. If you don't mind me asking, how did you learn instructional design?
Thanks for the detailed video. It was really insightful.

Thanks for the sharing. But maybe you can take Google PM certificate first and give us deeper insight about the difference between PMP and Google certificate.

I'm on the last course of the Google certificate. The course references readings from the PMI website regularly throughout the course. Don't know about the job market yet. Am learning a great deal. I hope that I will be able to land a job after having gone through the whole process.

@@RuthmarieHicks Congrats
@@Brimoh.billions It's a long haul to find anything though. Even entry-level wants a LOT of experience before they will even look at you. I starting to wonder if this was like "coding" in the early 2000's. Just be prepared for a very long haul to get something.
@@RuthmarieHicks Did you find a position in PM? Did the employer take notice of the google cert?
@@luxmuscle7793 No. You need experience to get a job and you need a job to get experience. Same old crap.
I have a 4 years degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years Diploma in Project Management and Currently working as a Security Supervisor. When I was looking for entry level jobs like project coordinator requirements, everyone is asking for 3 to 5 years experience. It’s hard to get it. So I thought if I have this certificate, it might help me in getting the job

@@RecipeforSuccess1 What do you recommend for someone like me with a engineering degree to tranform to a business sector? PMI or this Google PM certificate?
@@DreamWorksCreations It depends what you're looking for. Since you already have work experienced, I'd try just applying for jobs. If you want to learn more about project management, the Google course is a good place to start (it's cheap and is based on PMI principles). You won't be eligible for the PMI PMP certification until you have several years of project management experience. Good luck!
@@RecipeforSuccess1 Thank you so much for the reply. I really appreciate it.
I am in my second week and I think it's going good. Not keeping my hopes up in regards to jobs at the end of the program. However the course is pretty insightful and for a beginner like me who came to know about PMP just 6 months back it is very interesting.

Hi Karma !
Did you have to pay additional after paying for the monthly subscription .
@@okorodusbawo5447 it’s a 6 months program so every month fixed amount will be deducted. There are 6 courses that you have to finish but I finished two in less than a month. It is still ongoing so I don’t know if I will actually take 6 months or I’ll finish before that. I don’t know where you live but here in India I pay Rs. 1024/month.
Thank you so much
Thank you so much for all this information!
Awesome. I think I’ll just get the PMP.
Thanks @Bruce Law - appreciate the feedback. Good luck with everything!
If you're eligible to sit for the PMP now (or already have it) then I wouldn't bother with the Google thing.

@@RecipeforSuccess1 I wonder what kind of Project Managers that Google or Amazon would have for PMP's with 20+ yrs experience. 🤔
I went from Accounting to working contract as a Project coordinator without any of these certificates. Haha it was more of them needing someone is good at tracking expenses and allocation for this role. Now I work in change management. So all these people can start entry level somewhere. Experience is key.
Totally agree! Congrats to you on getting the job!

Hello Emma,
Thank you for providing all the details for Google Project Management Certificate, Currently i am working as Business/Sales Analyst and planning to move my career in Project management. I had some few doubts it will be great if u help me with that ( anyone who's having answer for this also pls cmt it) " i can't find proper answer in anywhere ".
My doubts are,
1. What are the roles & responsibilities of project management team in hierarchy basis like (junior BA > BA > junior PM > PM > PO) & the skills they need yo develop
2. Is the project manager or any one in the team of project management had to know the knowledge of coding/ program language skills in TECH domain.
3. What are the key certification those project management team persons had to pursue.
4. Is the project manager can able to switch domains like TECH to retail or any filed where there is need of project management.
Thanks
Excellent video. Many thanks.
Glad you liked it!
PMP certification is either a requirement or a ban, depending on where you go looking for work. My wife considered getting her PMP (after over 20 years of doing project management), but discovered that the "feel" many people frequently had was that the certification was covering for lack of experience and/or incompetence, and to get a pay boost.
Wow - how interesting! What field or industry is she in?
@@RecipeforSuccess1 Banking software
There are many bad PMs with and without the PMP no one size fits all. If your wife is considering moving companies it would help her resume pop.
@@ko4miles They always come looking for her - I don't even know if she's ever had a resume.
The key difference is this
CAPM is worth 150usd
Google Project Management is worth 14usd
This is the big difference

Hi @Martina - that's awesome! Thanks for joining our network :) Hope this video was helpful to you.
It doesn’t count
The price of this Google certification has gone up to $49 a month! Just a FYI for people who are interested in taking this certication
