As already mentioned before, the output electrolytic filter capacitor and rectifier MUST BE CHANGED for such higher voltage MOD. Also other problems may arise depending on the circuit topology and implementation. Personally I would not MOD a 5V P.S. for more than 9V.
Yes, I was expecting it to pop when it went above 12V. This video also lacks explanation. Do you happen to know why zener diode and why this stabilizer was was soldered the way it was (I mean pinout relative to potentiometer + resistor).
Let me start out by saying ты жжешь. I cheated I use a translator but I want to thank you for translating this into English it’s most helpful when you can understand something in your native tongue and duplicate it with instructions. Again thank you again for this great idea it will prove to be very useful on quite a few projects that I have that need to be controlling the voltage output.
Yeah, this is the first thing I thought about after it exceeded the six volts. That's make it a fire hazard. But overall, the idea is as good as always.
I need to say that is a nice idea (I made it to adjust some rare transformer to different operatus). But you need to know that the good way to process is that it's dangerous to reach twice or more the initial value. Voltage regulating here comes from a PWM wich change duty signal to provide highter voltage. First HV circuit is not made to work in that range of tight pulse. This is the reason why you must use this tip to have voltage as less as you want, but for reliability and safeness, don't reach more than twice the value... This primary circuit is not design to regulate until this point.
true, most cheap ones you find like this have 10v rated output caps if its a 5v supply, so thats definitely something to also switch out or it wont last long.
The output capacitor value should not be less than the output voltage, otherwise, it will explode. You need to carefully check other components effect when you change the voltage. It may be useful in some cases, but it needs knowledge and understanding of components, current, voltage and ohm law.
I don't know man. I looked inside my trashcan. No knobs. No stickers. I couldn't find anything I could describe as "cool", or "cool looking". It was mostly just various kinds of food packing materials, just like the stuff I buy at the grocery store comes in. There was some spoiled leftovers too, but it didn't seem like the value they bring my power supply project warranted digging them out. Full disclosure, I don't have the trashcan's manual, and can't verify if I'm actually having a technical problem, or if it's just user error, but I feel like I'm using it right. My guess is it's just broken
The circuit using TL431 is very inefficient. Original adapter can only be used up to 2A, 6.5A can't be taken out. The circuit will burn in few minutes.
It's not because of the TL431, it only gives a reference. In any system if you raise the voltage the max current will be lower, but if you know the maths then you know that 5V 2A gives the same power as 10V 1A.
Even if this charger uses a Shottky diode, the thermal power at 6A x 0,4V would be high enough to melt the solder off the PCB ((( or burn the diode down, because there is no heatsink. Also I doubt the transformer wiring would accept such a high current.
Hello, we have an agricultural land that has no electricity. Now, if we want to use a motorcycle battery, which is 12 volts, to get different currents, such as 10 or 12 amps, what transistor should we use?
I would solder the metal case of the Poti to the 240v live wire, so it can't touch it by accident. In this case at least you can be sure touching it is dangerous
Great solution to resurrect old power supplies but Please ba aware that usual in Chinese Power supplies output capacitors are only bit higher than nominal voltage. If you will have constantly 15V having "stock" 6,3V capacitor your power supply will not live long time.
Very Cool Idea, You Know why don't You Add The LED In The Hole You Made That You Had To Cover Up, Unless There's No Room For It, Or IT Might Take Some Power Away From Your Directive, Or Function, You Can Make Adapter To Adapter Conversion's For TV'S, Radio's And So On, I Think That Would Make an Excellent Addition To Your Idea, Awesome Idea, I'm Hooked, You Have a New Fan, Peace Out .P. It was relly great and i made it which works very well !!! Although my board was a little differens your boad!! By the way i changed capacitor with a 25 volts. Best regurds.
Very nice and informative video. I think english is not your first language and I thank you for making an english version. But having one language superimposed upon another language makes it very difficult to understand. I think it would be better to use your native language with english subtitles instead. I hope you view this as constructive criticism. The video is great and I really liked it. Thumbs up.
Thank you. I had a power supply from my computer die, one of the ceramic capacitors burnt up. Most parts are still in great condition. I scavenged a lot of parts from it. Including the TL431.
What about the main power capacitor.... It's designed to support 5.0 voltage output, now you're taking 15 volt as output... so you should have change the capacitor also....
Your videos are very interesting but can you please mute the Polish when you record the English translation, it is very difficult to listen to it like that. Thanks.
Nice! Am now your new subscriber. However, the new circuit cannot be used for laptops. Laptops require 19.5 volts 2 amperes, right? If you were to use it it would definitely burn the parts of your adjustable power supply such as: rectifiers, switching transformer, diode in the secondary, & so on, because they're too small. Not to mention you have to change the electrolytics to bigger ones also. This circuit is good only for fast charging celphones & small stuffs. Nevertheless, the idea is great!
many laptops are around 19v yes, but more than 2 amps, mine is about 3.5 so a small 'plug' power supply like this is not suitable as not high enough wattage
i,m gonna make a 10 channels of this adjustable power supply, because i,m going to power up 9 plug in led bulbs, and e27 12v led bulb, and use them to light up a library!
I tried but Boom,,💣 Then i increase capacitor to 25v volt, without resistance, again Boom when potentiometer is on full. How can i limit the voltage to within 15v so that it doesn't blow when i turn potentiometer full.? Does 18k resistor help me for it? I need power supply of 13 to 14v for 3s bms to charge 18650 batteries

I am not sure if the output electrolythic capacitor of 5V power source is rated for 15V. I would change it.
Yeah, this is the first thing I thought about after it exceeded the six volts. That's make it a fire hazard. But overall, the idea is as good as always.
Great, this idea is extra ordinary. Thank you very very much
Nice to see you again.
thanks this helped a lot I've been looking for exactly tis for a while
its dangerous to use as you go over the limit.change the output electrolytic capasitor to 25v before use.
I agree.
..otherwise the small value cap gonna be explode
You can change with a 25 voles capacitor as i did!!!
Totalmente de acuerdo contigo.
If change it to 25v electrolytic capacitor, how much is the uf?

NO, don't do it. The Amps Ratings may not match and you will damage your pc :((((((((.

Incredibly helpful, thanks so much
Great idea but make sure those caps are rated for at least 15 volts. And it would be better if you explained the theory of operation as well.

Good work, but could you say the current at 3v and 15v. It was 5x2.5 = 12.5W, so is current linearly increse from 3v or it is constant. Thanks.
Big fan ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nice Job 👍🇬🇧

Isn't this kind of dangerous, because components on the AC side are added and mounted outside?
You did even mention to check on the maximum ratings of the other components. That's extremely dangerous!
