Redrum - Unit 22

For Redrum’s second release on Patchbay, we knew we wanted to challenge the ways of visualising a drum and bass E.P, using stop motion animation.
As an early teen, Redrum grew up going to squat raves in London as he couldn’t get into clubs with his fake ID. This E.P plays alongside a stop motion animation inspired by this era of his life. One of the most influential raves Redrum attended was held in a warehouse called Unit 22 in Canning town, and worked as the main inspiration behind this release. Coincidentally, he wrote this E.P whilst living in flat 22 in Manchester.
This album is inspired by the original music played at these raves and dedicated to the artists that motivate him; Bad Company, Photek, DJ Die and Original Sin to name a few. Their sounds have helped shape the landscape of his music.
The first song on this E.P “Breadmaker” holds a special place to Redrum, as it includes a sample of a wooden Native American flute played by Sam Carson; fellow filmmaker and animator on this project. Drum and Bass music is a home for any unique sound, no matter what the context, form or shape. We believe this E.P highlights this space for creativity in the scene, and we hope it gives life to a new generation of ravers and creatives experiencing the dance music scene.
