    I know said something like this many times before but I think the cool easter eggs related to old PC games would be:
    - Spongify carpet just laying somewhere casually,
    - Old spell symbols drawed in chalk somewhere,
    - A gargoyle statue coming to life for a moment when you cast Lumos spell next to it,
    - I've heard the Flipendo also is going to be in the game, so if it is going to be usable I hope that the first task for the player after learning it is going to be pushing a barrel down the narrow hallway.

    The fantastic beasts style is probably because it's set in Victorian times and they're using period clothing, but I miss the whimsical wizard style that was present in the first two Potter movies/video games, ancient robes and pointy hats, lot's of bright colours (especially the Diagon Alley scene), more rooted in fairytale than history. I'm a big history buff, but I also like my fantasy where it's needed.

      We could make an excuse as to why the wizards in the first HP movies wore more whimsical wizardy clothes is because they were still wearing their Victory clothes from the first wizarding war.

    As someone who studied architecture, the new castle looks very interesting. They kept the most iconic locations similar to the films' set design, which is very close to historical standards. But the other areas, they combined gothic church architecture with tudor and reanissance architecture, and with art nouveau (the wavy tracery and lines) and art deco (the hall with the red and gold stars) decorations, and lots of rooms look very different though being in the same style as others.
    They all turned out beautiful, but I'd have preferred they hadn't used art nouveau and art deco, because these styles basically didn't exist at the time the game is set in (and even today, this blend of architecture only exists in fantasy games and art) so for me it's really jarring and breaks suspension of disbelief. I think the design of the films and the games made them more magical because they were very historically accurate, which made the magic world more "believable". Since the magic world is supposed to exist in our real world, not in a fantasy world.
    Anyway make no mistake the castle looks gourgeous and exciting and it's literally Hogwarts so of course I will be playing and exploring. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk xx

    The Hufflepuff common room being all 'hobbit-style' like this is a very old trope in the fandom, and I'm not sure of its origins. Well, part of is is in the books themselves, as you said, but I seem to remember similar fanarts of it dating years back;
    and I haven't spent much time on Pottermore, but I could swear there was an art from Pottermore that also depicted the common room in a very similar style.

    • @NawiTheCore
      @NawiTheCore 2 года назад +4

      I don't think Hufflepuff's common room is ever described in the books. We know it's near the kitchens, which are below ground level (right below The Great Hall), so I'd expect the common room to be dungeon-like, similar to every other room below ground level in Hogwarts.

      @@NawiTheCore The description of the Hufflepuff common room came from Pottermore. It was always meant to look like this, very round and warm and cozy. The author had the style for it picked out, but just never got the chance to ever give Harry an excuse to enter the space.

    I mean, you say it's similar to Fantastic Beasts in style, but that's just because 1890 was extremely similar to UK 1920's in relative style. They were still doing bow ties and waistcoats at that period.

    I'm not super happy with the way the castle looks for the same things you're pointing out. It just feels all over the place in terms of style, colors, materials, etc. And let's not forget it was built in the 11th C. so the architectural style should be mostly Gothic or Romanesque. I think there's just too much art nouveau and it doesn't really fit with the other styles.

    so there is a reason for the clothing style. This game is going to be set in the 1800s. there will still be hogwarts robes, but some of the other choices will be in the style of 1800s garb. You will find this is more book accurate than film, but when needed they also pulled from film for like the iconic scenes. This was the longests showcase we've gotten, but there was a 14 minutes state of play, 4 common room walk throughs, plus three game trailers and now 3 seasonal ASMR videos. You should totally check them all out, it will only help hype you up and blow your mind at the graphics more. 10:20 is a famous witch in the HP lore. Her name is Wendolyn the Weird I think. She liked the feeling of the cold fire spell she cast when she was burned at the stake, that she allowed herself to be caught over and over. So the reason they are making such a "big deal" about the owlry is because there were a few youtube reactors that made a "humorous stink" about all the trailers, and ASMR and state of play that had very few owls. Like, none, anywhere near the owlry. So this actually goes to show you, that the devs pay attention to our reactions and actually watch and pay attention to what we as fans think. That particular bit was directed at WifeWantsAWizard youtuber. He's rather funny and chandler must have watched his vids a few times. The fact that the devs are just as excited as we are makes me so happy. Fans making a game for fans, is the best team I could have hoped for to create a open world rpg for harry potter.
    Also, just remember, "everything you can see you can go to". That's important. I'm not sure how many open world games you've played. Not everything needs to be a point of interest or a dungeon or a town. Just the wilds are important as well because you need to fight enemies to earn experience and level as well as areas to collect materials for "crafting" in our case for potions and herbology. If you watch the ASMRs you'll see a bit of what the outskirts are going to be like. It showcases the environment really well, and everything is just as beautiful as the castle.
    I loved this video....I too think the devs did a marvelous job of creating a gorgeous castle.

    I am a huge Harry Potter fan. Played all PC games. From 1-3 were the best; the rest 4 were somehow OK but downgraded from the previous 3. And then we got a shit pay-2-play mobile game (the Hogwarts Mystery one). Now Hogwarts Legacy is the game that can change everything and give us the actual Harry Potter experience we all wanted. Also, I am happy that this game is single-player, which means no P2W shit (probably they might sell DLC-s, but that's OK) and also no grind like every online multiplayer game has to make you pay more cash. I have big expectations for a full-price title and hope Portkey Games do this game right, not like their mobile shit.

    I really wish they hadn't leaned so heavily into the art nouveau style. Like obviously I'm a slut for Jugendstil as much as the next person but hogwarts wasn't founded in 1912 you know? And some bits feel like different buildings smashed together where maybe the game would've been served better by more locations where you can travel to from the central hub of hogwarts

    I think the Castle in Hogwarts Legacy is somewhat too “whimsical and a little silly and Tacky”. Yes it’s amazing and beautiful in many parts, but it needs to be more grounded and Romanesque/Gothic in Design and less so Disney Castle. I like the design from the Films(3-6 really) for the castle. I also didn’t like the redesign of the great hall and that stupid extra foyer.
