Ok, Messmers Eye lore: like his siblings Miquella and Millenia, Messmer was born afflicted, if i understood correctly, he is a vessel for an outer god, the abyssal serpent. Fearing his power as a child, queen Marika gorged out his eyes and replaced them with eyeballs with the deal of the golden order on them to keep that which squirms within him at bay, but despite that she was still scared of him and what lies within him, so she sealed him in the land of shadows alongside everything she wished to leave behind, while using him as an instrument of her revenge against the race that wiped out her race, condemning him to a prison he wasn't even aware he is a willing victim to😢. He wasnt a bad person and he commanded loyalty, he was just a victim in the never ending cycle of revenge
He's honestly one of the most likable demigods, kinda similar to Radahn he was honest and honorable and inspired loyalty in countless followers. He never abused or took advantage of them, and even when he was betrayed by some of his closest allies he gave them proper burials. His main flaw was his blind devotion to his mother, which he never let go of until the moment of his death, finally realizing how she had used him. Ironically it was removing his eye that finally allowed him to see, but it was too late.

Remember Marika didn't start out evil, she was a member of a peaceful shaman village, but the hornet came after her and hers, she too was manipulated by something sinister - the mother of all fingers matyr, the daughter of the greater will who was abandoned. She gave up whatever humanity she had in her for the sake of power and revenge. I think it's a fromsoft thing at this point 😂

@@norrisbrothersgaming4283 that came later on, the war Messmer waged in the Scado realm predates the events that happened in the lands between, the fact he kept fighting her war and waiting for her to return even after so long is a testament of his loyalty and love for his mum. Not knowing things are so beyond fucked up that she can't even come back even if she wanted to (which she never wanted to, ever!)

Fun fact: Since he shattered his eye, he becomes weak to holy. It's a pretty cool detail since when he has his eye he's strong against it.

Fun fact about Sword of Light/Darkness; Their weapon arts are actually kinda fire if you’re doing a faith/holy build. As Sword of Light BOOSTS holy damage by some percentage (I can’t remember), and Sword of Darkness reduces Holy Damage negation.

fyi if u didn’t know the swords of light and darkness also do a buff/ debuff. the sword of light buffs ur holy damage when you use the skill and the sword of darkness reduces enemies’ holy resistance when u hit them with the weapon skill.

So it would make Scadu fragment into "Shadow fragment" and so on..
