    Hilariously, this race is the first time Russell has ever out-scored his teammate. Every other time points have been a possibility he's gotten unlucky. Glad to see his talent finally be rewarded, even if it did mean us not getting a proper race.

      it would be more interesting to see latifi/russel side by side qualifying onboards, to see how the two cars were behaving on the track, see setup/engine mode difference etc

    That was a delicate dance between understeer and over steer, carrying alot of speed into the corner and let the car understeer to the edge of the track. I think he pushed the car beyond what it is capable of and did it brilliantly

      @@ucube33 What he means is that George went deliberately beyond the limit of grip at some points during the lap which allowed him to be faster than he would have been within the limits of grip on the tires at all times. He positioned the car in a way that allowed the loss of grip to naturally take him to where he wanted to be at various different points during the lap, most commonly on corner exit. Being beyond the limit is very much possible. He is referring to the limits of grip, not the absolute maximum pace that could potentially be extracted from the car.

    awesome to see how much grid there is when braking outside the dry racing line. In the last sector though, he basically took Blanchimont flat out! amazing how these cars are planted, even in wet conditions!

      I saw a comparison of each of their laps with telemetry and that William's top speed is non-existent
      Yet in a top speed focused track he beat a 7 time world champion

      difference in set up. the Williams was running with a high down force setup due to the rain, gambling on the fact that it will rain on raceday too. the others ran lower down force, as is the norm in spa, so they can survive if there its dry as well.

    Honestly I think this is up there with “Senna 88’ Monaco”, Hill 97’ Jerez with his Arrows & that ridiculous pole lap Lewis has in Singapore, (forget the year). To do that in at best the 7th-8th fastest car is beyond amazing.

      @Satanic Panic Fun and Games Think we can all agree he isn't living a life of tribulation as a whole. The joke was meant to explain his level of talent suffering in probably the 2nd slowest team on the grid but remaining positive and upbeat the past few years to now be rewarded by 'the gods' with an outstanding lap in a not so outstanding car. Hope this helps explain my joke to you a little better........

    Fantastic lap from Russell. It has to be said the wet set-up did contribute to this result.
    Williams has a knack for pulling off such shock results! Think Nico Hulkenberg's pole position on his debut season in 2010 Brazilian GP, or an arguably bigger shock of Pastor Maldonado's (official) pole and lights-to-flag victory in the dry (sharing the podium none other with Alonso and Kimi!)

    Look, I'm not saying the slight lift in the soaking wet into Eau Rouge and Raidillon is the bravest thing I've seen on the internet this year. But it's pretty close to it. An absolutely stunning lap from a future world champion.

      no this is not true verstappen had a 4 tenth deficit going into s2, he than set a purple middle sector 0,14 up on russell and made up 3 more tenths in s3

    If George didn't overcook it a bit there, he could have had pole by a solid margin. Williams was well sorted here. In those conditions, I reckon that car had a race winning set up.
    Williams coming back to winning ways and it's not even the new regulations yet. The side has earned themselves a pat on the back, they're killing Alfa rn.
